Managed to grab one for about $80 including Polish taxes, which is a really great price.

I'll probably only use this one for games. I'll use my old Corsair for data files, which means that for the first time the only thing I'll keep on HDDs is video files.
You were lucky as I can see the lowest price in Poland right now is $115 (459 zl).

I just realized I said it wrong. I paid ~$100 total (399 PLN), including taxes. ~$80 was after subtracting 23% VAT (dividing by 1.23), which would be the US price.

SSD prices are definitely going up. Two months ago the lowest standard price (without a discount) for this drive was 459 PLN, now it's 539 PLN, and that's just one store. That's $20 more (and the Dollar is actually cheaper than it was then).

I'm definitely glad I bought it when I did. Seems like this year will be rough for SSDs.

Despite the higher pricing, this Lexar is by far the greenest drive with the highest energy efficiency of them all.
If you are about to buy these days, it is hardly a skip option ;)

Hey @W1zzard, could you review the 'Innovation IT PerformanceY GEN4 4TB' drive available here?
I would like to see its performance given it is still cheap ~200 euros. It might be a new performance king until it too rises in price.

Never heard of those guys, I'd say this seems to be identical to NM790: MAP1602+YMTC

I'm thinking of getting the NM790 2TB for my laptop. Will I have to worry about thermal throttling?

Could you specify what is categorized as heavy workloads? Ill mostly do programming/app development and gaming.
Those activities generally don't qualify. Heavy workloads would be considered high bandwidth file transfer/writing/copying tasks. So if you're not doing a lot of that, or will only be doing it occasionally, this drive will serve you well.

Do you think I should go with the 980 pro instead of the NM790? Also, which one would be hotter during normal casual tasks?

That depends. If price is a factor, I think the Lexar is the better value, depending on where you live in the world.
$150
$166
However, the Samsung having DRAM cache can be important. If the $16 is not a limitation then the 980Pro is the better performer.

This ssd have two temperature sensors, one are reporting higher than others. According to this review & AIDA64 reporting...
1711155267694.png

And I believe it got different thresholds for temperature sensor 1...
1711155364064.png

So I believe that temperature sensor 2 got the max safe temp. limit of 75c as Lexar says on Spec. on there own website while for temperature sensor 1 Lexar didn't mentioned or say anything about it but according to AIDA64 got different max safe temps. going for 95c & 115c.

This kind of thermal management also found it on SK Hynix Gold P31 SSD too where it also reports 2 different temp sensors. Usually other SSDs only reports 1 temp sensor (I guess cheap SSDs maybe?). For example Micron 2400 SSD that I have only reports 1 temp sensor. I am pretty sure Micron 2400 SSD it's low end cheap SSD.

That explains when you open CrystalDiskInfo... it only shows 1 of them [which is the higher ones] and skips the 2nd temp sensor... so don't panic when you open CrystalDiskInfo and tells you your SSD is hot bec. it's currently not true at all.

Same thing for SK Hynix Gold P31 SSD was happening because I owned one before replacing it with Lexar nm790.

Interesting. My Corsair drive always idles ~15 degrees higher than my PNY drive, and the Lexar is even warmer. But I checked the second sensor and it shows 12 degrees less than the first. The Lexar is the only drive under a radiator.

By the way, HOLY AIDA DARK MODE!!!

I'm using the Lexar on a laptop and it is used as a boot driver + games. I expected to see high temps but that didn't happened except one moment. I mainly got it bec. of how efficacy this SSD is under read/write operations.

The only moment when the 1st sensor reached on the 70s was just the moment after I finished cloning my boot drive but normally after gaming and general casual windows usage... the Lexar SSD temps are chillin at temp sensor 1 at 42c while temp sensor 2 at 31. Comparing it to Micron 2400 which is only reports 1 temp sensor at 35c.

When I switched from Sk Hynix Gold P31 boot drive to Lexar NM790 boot drive I immediately noticed and blown away by the smoothness of overall windows operation and boots up faster too! I didn't expect it to be this noticeable since we all know SK Hynix Gold P31 have DRAM cache while Lexar NM790 doesn't. It's really buttery smooth. Maybe placebo idk.

btw.... AIDA got more than one types of Dark Mode... just sayin :D

Finally managed to get it for €120, not a bad deal considering the prices right now.

Have one just stopped working, not detected by the motherboard. :banghead:
It is probably still within the warranty period. Make a claim on it.

It is probably still within the warranty period.

It is actually within the first 8 months of the five-year warranty.

Make a claim on it.

I did RMA it.

1722402703111.png

The problem that I see is the thermal pad on the metal plate ^^^^, which puts too much pressure on the SSD, and think it suffocated the drive.
I will remove that thermal pad and make a direct contact between the metal plate and the drive.

I have made a decision to not rely any longer on this drive, it will moved as a secondary one, for backup.

Zero issues on the two NM790s in my work PC

I see, but I can't wait 1 month the idiots from the retailer RMA service to claim it as a defect, and return a new one.
They could have just sent me a new one, and do whatever they want with the old broken, meanwhile. :kookoo:

Hence, I am not willing to buy a second one.

It was my primary SSD with Windows on it. :banghead:

I am happy that it will no longer be
