Yup, the cooling setup in that series of laptop will handle 47W CPUs. You'd be fine with the i7-4800MQ, 4810MQ, 4900MQ or 4910MQ. However, the 4930MX or 4940MX will NOT work, so don't try them.
Damn, then I'll get that one with the best bang for buck :) there are many ebay sellers where you can select the chip you want so I'll check from one of those.

Really? I've never seen that model but it looks like it would be decent after a cap job. I never had an issue with VIA for AMD..
I havent either , like i said earlier it is a very colourful board. :)

Same. Maybe not the best overclockers when compared to nF2, but usually pretty solid chipsets.

LGA775 Intel Core 2 Quad Core Motherboard 8GB RAM Xeon 3.4GHZ CPU ASUS Bundle

MPN
P5K-E, P5K-Deluxe
Xeon E5450 Quad Core

I have been using this combo for 4 years and it hasn't missed a beat. All this time the Super powerful E5450 Quad Core CPU has been overclocked to 3.4ghz and is 100% stable. This is basically the best of the Core 2 Quad generation.Have you heard of it?
If it came with heatsink cooler i would buy it, but i suppose it needs a moded one
I got a 775 board on eGay last year but can,t get it to work:(
775 DDR3 or DDR2 which is the best?o_OAt £39 make an offer a bit pricey for me:(.

That Xeon is basically a Q9650 according to its specs. Never owned one and actually I'm done with LGA775 (at least what it comes for purchasing stuff for that socket).

I have a Q9550 but haven't played around with it, at least not yet.

That looks like a great base for a retro system. Costs ok?

I would go for the former if it was £10 cheaper i would go for it but £39 without a cooler is to much.PCchip is £24 make an offer thats more my price. :)I was so excited to find this item from my first ever PC build from Uni days in 2003. I had so many happy hours blasting away on Quake Arena, Half Life and Unreal Tournament on this little beauty. Alas I can't find a 20 pin PSU to test it and have decided to sell. Sold as spares or repair even though I full expect that it works. Ideal retro machine.Ids thart worth a punt at that price.:)
Processor: Sempron 2400 (might be 2400+) complete with cooler
Motherboard: PCCHIPS M863G
RAM: 1 x 256MB, 1 x unknown (could be 512mb) Any caps gone there Lex?

@Greenslade , why do you keep looking at some of these "junk" boards that are dead and then you are trying to figure out how to get them working, after you receive them?

Get a known good system and be done with it man.

Same. Got it with a rampage formula. Confirmed it's working and that's it. Haven't find the time, nor funds for a such project. Missing RAM, storage, PSU, better CPU cooler, period correct GPU (but I guess my 1060 could do).

The ASUS A7V600 was bought on eBay in a case and was working untel i replaced the cpu and took it out of the case.I thought this was a retro forum.o_OThe other board that seemed to have life in it never worked before and was only a fiver so no loss on that one.And the 775 one was working untel now.I know this board is not retro but it was only £10 i was was thinking of getting it,I would have got it for a fiver.I see even that is old. o_OI was going to go back and get it but want now.

Stepping shows it as a Pentium 4 HT 550
A 550 Prescott to be exact by the info.
Of course I will have to confirm it once it's in a system loaded with an OS to see what CPU-Z says but that has to be it.

Damn, I've seen a similar misprint P4 somewhere before. Aren't those pretty rare?

Yeah, I have only up to DDR2-800 and that's pretty meh what it comes to those 333FSB CPUs though RAM OC is never ruled out. I should test about all my RAM one day for their max OC and I have A LOT of DDR/DDR2/DDR3 sticks.

I had trouble finding higher freq. DDR2 modules in the local market. The board supports 4 DIMMs, but not sure how stable it is fully populated. It boots with different sticks though.
