Those types of cheap chargers have fairly poor power factor/efficiency.

The GaN chargers are much more efficient and produce a higher quality current, personally I prefer Anker Prime, which are fairly high quality. Only downside I've found is most are only QC 3.0, not 3.1, so 100 W max not 140 W.

Don't care personally. One doesn't buy charger strips like the above for perfect efficiency. One buys them for functionality and the ability to plugin a lot of devices all at once. Besides, the efficiency differences for that kind of use case scenario are so insignificant as to be mostly irrelevant.

GaliumNitride based chargers are very cool and Anker is a solid brand, not doubts there.

And that's a thing.

The efficiency is less important than the poor quality power output, which can reduce the lifetime of things connected to them, e.g. I don't mind spending £50 instead of £20 on a charger if it's charging a £1000 phone and a £2000 laptop, along with having 1-200 W power output rather than something like 25 W, e.g. 5x 5 W.

True! The above examples were only for reference. I'm sure @de.das.dude would do a bit more searching on the Indian Amazon site. Just wanted to give them ideas.

Agreed! Buying quality is always the better move!

Got a decent deal on ebay: X570 Taichi Razor (open box) + 5950x (B0 stepping used) + AM4 Velocity2 water block (used). Raw $730 value at today's market price for about $500 including tax and shipping.
Time to really dig in an learn Linux now that I have a close mirror of my existing Windows system.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
aherm ... i received my "cute sneezing girls" set (135keys with ISO enter key and lots of spare, in cherry or OEM profile ...)

well ... after inspecting the content of the delivery ... i judged that i will only post the stock picture from the seller .. because some of them are ... NSFW (more than the initial 8 i got for the 8 key macropad)

man, sure that's a lot of sneezing ... is this an epidemic? (cherry on the cake : front engraved shine thru legends :D )
8fe6a3d1-491b-4230-a95d-916256d21494.jpeg

all that because @Sithaer made a joke about my 8 original one about me having a keyboard based on that ... but without legends, it would be a bit difficult, i can type blind, the EVA02 set is hard to not type blind without having the room light up (or the keyboard directly in front of the screen ), well, now it's done ... i wonder if i can find my Medion Erazer keyboard (which is a full KB) to use all the keys in the set ... (and also because i quite like the MDA/XDA EVA02 set ... )

to think that all started with a joke gift of 4 keycap from a friend too "concerned about how others would view it"
eh, me? i don't really care :p

Going to have a fun day tomorrow when I transfer the guts of my rig from the current MSI Sekira 100R into this new Antec C8 case, along with the shiny new RX 7900 XTX. That card is so long, it needs a whole new case for it! Not worried though, this Antec case has better ventilation (up to 9 x 140mm fans) all round anyway, but the acid test will come in Summer when we get those extra hot days & nights & don't want AC on all the time.

I am preparing to update my 4 node cluster. They are on old E3 skylake xeons. I decided this time to test AMD. If this one works well and IPMI is nice, then I will buy 3 more and replace all of them (complete sets of the amounts above). The only hard part will be the gymnastics of migrating my VMs, not really hard just not excited to sit in the cold isle for hours setting all this up.

Yes indeed, with the card though, was going to hang out until RDNA 4 came out, but after reading up on them, they really are only a minor upgrade from RDNA 3. The biggie with GPU architecture in the next couple yrs is RDNA 5. This card will tie me over until then.

Kinda yes, kinda no. The RayTracing performance is going to be improved as well as some power efficiency gains, which will reduce wattage requirements and heat production.

Perhaps getting a bit off the topic for this thread here, but from what I've seen, the top RDNA 4 card should have performance like the current 7900XT & the RT improvements. I don't do games with RT, I think it's overrated. One can also undervolt RDNA 3 cards in adrenalin & I'm only gaming @ 3440x1440 - 165Hz.

Then your 7900XTX is going to serve you well. Enjoy!

Not worried though, this Antec case has better ventilation (up to 9 x 140mm fans) all round anyway, but the acid test will come in Summer when we get those extra hot days & nights & don't want AC on all the time.

Nice, I looked at that case when considering a new one for myself, but having the PSU mounted up high, behind the motherboard was the one thing that made me decide not to get it.
If I want to swap out the CPU cooler I don't want to remove a PSU just to do that, I was also concerned it may allow heat to build up in that section of the motherboard.

I just wish Anker would do a travel version of theirs, with interchangable plugs for the world's different electrical outlets. :(

I went to the next next level on my ARTIC III 420 and case ,

Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-3000 PWM, Heavy Duty Cooling Fan, 4-Pin, 3000 RPM (140mm, Black)

Also replace the short riser cable with a 300mm vs 165mm, and now I can use a straight HDMI connector vs the angle one , I love Amazon , one of the Noctua was bad , have a other one coming Monday .

The HDMI port on my father's Lenovo Tiny M720Q is acting up, so I decided to install an external GPU. Regardless of what power brick you have 135W, 170W, 230W these units have the power rails to the PCIe slot capped at 50W. I was enthusiastic of putting my A2000 for a spin, but only stable solution would be limiting the boost to 1500mhz @700aV @PCie x 8

Anyhow, at 50W I can choose between GT1030 (30W), Quadro P1000 (47W) and Quadro T1000 (50W), the last one is prohibitively expensive locally (especially the 8GB varinat). So I ended up getting a used P1000. Seems a bit dusty....:p :

I need to clean, repaste and put a small heatsink on the VRM.

Already ordered the adapter from Aliexpress for €9.

What I will NOT order is the original bracket for €22....for this:

And a new side panel:

You guessed it....it's hammer time..NO! NO! No hammers :) drilling time, we will see each other in the Ghetto mod thread as I am about to do something like this:

Please share your thoughts on their sound signature. For example just compare them to the P14s, or w/e you want. Thanks.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
and as promised no weirdness... much?

new phone shell for my father's TCL 10 Pro that is still going strong after 4 yrs
20240628_122814.jpg

eh ... well, it was cheap and interesting, it works for emergencies charging, only cons : it need an adapter for USB-C
20240628_122522.jpg20240628_122528.jpg20240628_122534.jpg20240628_122556.jpg
yep an ultra mini phone charger that can use alkaline batteries for last resort charging

and then well, i wanted one, but i was afraid it would come with a modern chinese version of the 6n3p
it's from PJ.Miaolai model: D2, iirc the OEM behind Douk Audio and Nobsound (well, i am glad i didn't get a Douk or a No(o)bsound  )
20240628_122849.jpg
the PSU is not the best one, but after some testing the amp itself work quite fine and the sound is not bad at all

but lo and behold! it's a freaking 6Н3П-ЕВ/6N3P-EV (industrial version of the 6N3P ) not a DR but should still be rated for more than the 1500hrs of the base model, 6Н3П-ДР the DR which were reserved to aerospace use are rated 10k hrs, i think i can find some for ~19eur which would cost the same as what i paid for that AMP
OTK/QC marking and the factory logo indicate the Oktyabr factory in Vinnytsya Ukraine, it's a NOS (New Old Stock) it seems given how pristine it is
20240628_122938.jpg20240628_122945.jpg

basic tube AMP the build quality is good, the blue led under the tube socket doesn't denature the soft orange glow of the 6N3P if anything the bottom with the wire lead look like a Cherenkov effect in a nuclear reactor pool, inspected the board the soldering could be a tad better, caps are Sinecon (which are not bad, unlike ChengX/ChangX) and it use a Ti NE5532P op-amp
