Fair question, I assume there is a price premium for modular and I'd rather put the money elsewhere.

The price premium is aftermarket cables (consumer market) and the fact it is cheaper to make a cable on an industrial scale than it is build them into a unit on site.

The two options here are face up to what is currently in the Western retail sector or about face and delve into the world of Asian online sites with their opaque supply channels.
Option 1.x.x is find a workstation PSU you as an individual can attain and modify it to purpose as required.

I just realized that 16V 2200uF solid-state capacitors exist (10mm x 20mm) and I could rebuild my old EVGA supply with them.

I would not waste the time or money as there are other components that can and will go bad that you will more than likely be able to replace do to the soldering skills and or obsolescence.

I would look at one of the brands listed in the post and buy it.

To prevent that, retain the box and keep the spare cables in that box so you know which PSU they belong to.

And installing it in your system?

Then it behaves exactly as a non-modular power supply.

Which ATX power supply? fortunately, I have a few requirements to narrow the field

• non-modular (not even semi-modular)
• no RGB
• 5-year warrantee or more

the non-modular requirement would seem to exclude 80 Plus Platinum and Titanium
(so Gold is fine) and puts me in the 600-800W range and excludes eco-mode.

Sure, I can get a 650W unit with 5-year warrantee for $35, but I am after quality.

The unit I am replacing was 80+ Gold, 600W but had no filtering on the mains.

The unit I am using presently is an EVGA 500W1

but the version with uncooled bridge rectifier.

Seeing as everything toady is modular, get a modular PSU and glue the cables in place

Shrek, what do you think of this? If you need more power you can even chain them together. (yes I'm going down the rabbit hole just a moment with this suggestion. )

Why not fab your own cables with heavier gauges and directly solder to the pcb if you are concerned about melted modular connectors on the psu side?

Just found out that 16V 3300μF solid-state capacitors exist (10mm x 22mm) and these should beat the best electrolytic capacitors, and since this is usually a power supply's weak point (along with the fan) I wonder if going 100% solid for the secondary capacitors will be an option in the future.
