My main complaint with gaming industry with regarding "modern" character design isn't so much the design itself but the choice to use a real person to capture their face model and then completely change it.
I don't see the point in using a real person face model, only for them to modify it to fit some weird criteria, the main character in Outlaw looks nothing like the actual face model they have based it on.

Anyway enough talk of dumb politics...I am on the final boss of Black myth Wukong and it is a challenge with a lot of swearing, overall I am thoroughly enjoying the game and the soundtrack is great.

Some real face models look hella good though, take Resident Evil remake for example. Looks great and that's a 2002 game.

It is mainly from asian studios that seem to have not made any changes to face models for their games and they have tried to keep it faithful.
Some games I can recall on top of my head that have used real face models and near enough been faithful:
Resident evil
Devil may cry 5
Metal gear solid 5 Phantom pain
Black myth Wukong (been confirmed now it seems)
Stellar Blade, if you want to count body model
Death Stranding

It's not woke culture, it's complaining culture :
see, even you , you don't like this "ugly girl" as you said ...
So what you like for main character ?
a sexy girl, a muscular guy, a badass woman ...
tell us, so we can complain about your choice

That's said, you've got a point here, maybe a character creation should be a standard for gaming now ...
Build the character you want, and everyone should be happy !
i'm old

I need good looking people in games. Like Croft, and Yennefer, and nathan Drake , Chloe Frazer, ezio auditore, I need ada wong.

I also understand that stellar blade is masturbatation content, console game meant to be played with 1 hand. But why make deliberate ugly characters? We are playing video games to escape, not to remind ourselves of reality.

Character creation is only good for Elder Scrolls type. No one will ever remember Dragon Dogma 2, where the entire game is not 1 but 2 huge character creations. and then nothing.
But everyone in history will remember gerald of trivia.

Don't push it too much.
I'm playing games with every characters dev' thrown at me and i'm not complaining.
As far as I know, a good or bad character doesn't ruin a gameplay.
As a gamer I believe : gameplay > rest
Some people complains about characters in game here and there, not me.

Take note of the fact I quoted only your thoughts on character creators removing need for awareness of personal issues related to unsavory desires. In doing so I quickly dealt with the mirror image of this problem on development side. As well as the limited opportunities for this to work really well in games.

Call it an attempt to bring thread back nearer to being on topic.

Almost immediately after reopening Arcade Paradise I received goals to work towards that greatly expand gameplay options.
Amazing how few personal infractions are possible in the 8/16/.. bit games you never actually see your character or see them very clearly. Wonder if that contributed at all to such a broad audience worldwide greatly enjoying gaming? ;)

Understood what you said here :)
To be fair, we're always ugly for someone ... I found this old good Geralt ugly, but charismatic for sure !
I think I don't really "connect" with characters in games, I took them as they are, like people with their good or bad side.
It's a bit different in games where you're supposed to be the hero.

Ah, the 8/16 bits games had the power of imagination.
Take Mario for example, a buch of pixels in SMB but in your head it's the very Mr. Moustache you saw in every ads back then :)

Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown in VR. UEVR mod has a plug in for it and it works well, but a few HUD elements don't work. No gun sight so guns are harder to use, and rockets/bombs can't really be used. But otherwise guided weapons work fine. I was able to finish every mission and the first two DLC missions, but had an issue with the 3rd DLC mission. It has a HUD element that does not show up and it is kind of necessary to finish a phase of it. So disappointed with that... but still, I played through 22 out of 23 missions in VR. One of the reasons why PC gaming is nice, some cool mods can revamp the game.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 took me by surprise when it shouldn't have. Electronic toilets are so deeply ingrained as a novelty sure to be encountered in Japan this should've been predictable.

Sorry for OSD but also not sorry because those temps are a very large motivator to avoid upgrading.

I bought the "The Brotherhood Deluxe Mega Bundle" a while back and have been slowly making it through their point and click games

First I played Stasis.
This game was....."meh" as I look back at it. I'm not feeling super enthused to play it again, but it wasn't terrible. Just had some really, really, really, obscure puzzles. Like they didn't do a great job with delivering some of the clues. Appears to be the devs first game. They have gotten much better in subsequent releases.....for the most part. The swing and a miss comes in form of Cayne. This game was literally free. Despite this is has pretty poor reviews, to the point I am actually afraid to start this game. :fear:

So, instead I went to their next for profit game Beautiful Desolation.
This is where I think they found their groove, or at least the start of it. Plenty of indie corner cutting going on but this is more like actual budget constraints it seems rather than hurts the gameplay. Minor stuff like why are the conversation FMVs so short and their repeat points are mostly pretty bad, very obvious where the loop occurs. Yet they somehow afforded Mick Gordon for the sound track and it is pretty good. The story is absolutely bat shit crazy. Very "out there" ideas. I will definitely play this game again after some time to forget the story and puzzle solutions. It has multiple paths too so it has that going for it to see different story lines play out between difference races in this world they have built

Lastly, the reason I write this is to say their latest game Stasis: Bone Totem is a master piece in my opinion. This is the best modern point and click game I have played. Granted, that ain't saying much, I don't play these often. But this game was so good I had to start playing it again to try for different achievements and see how much quicker I can get through. I'm not a very fast gamer apparently. If most people say something takes around 10 hours, it's going to take me at least 12 hours. I needed 17 hours to beat this game first time around. Second time around it took only 11 hours. So that's how much time, about 6 hours, I spent on first play through running around lost trying to figure out puzzle solutions :banghead:. The puzzles felt pretty good though. Only one or two were a little more obscure, but it's more like their clues were really well hidden, but in plain sight at same time, and I didn't connect the dots. They include a walk through guide for free which is great if you need it. Buying the bundle I got it also had a nice graphical version of the walk through which was much appreciated. The graphics and animations have really improved for this game. The story, just as bat shit crazy as the last games but boy this one was really gripping! I genuinely wanted to get back to my computer to play this to find out more! The game play improves big time with the whole story centering around 3 characters and you can control them all (separately though) and pass items around which add a whole new layer of complexity for puzzles. Oh and I was quite pleased to see they continued on with the "secret death" puzzles/achievements. This is kinda funny and weird, you get achievements for finding certain ways to die. This feature was absent in Beautiful Desolation, seemingly opting for different story paths instead of the possibility a wrong choice will kill you. This feature was present in the original Stasis, so, glad to see it return here for the sequel!

3) This is STAR WARS without anything related to the force, the jedi, anything about start wars...expect it in that universe

This is the only reason I'm sort of interested in this game. I'm sick to death of the shitty asshole jedis and especially the Skywalker cult. Star Wars is such a wide open universe but NO! ONLY JEDI's and if something starts out as not related to that the shittastic Skywalkers will at some point turn up. Give me anything but jedis. They aren't interesting anymore!

Mods have to be thrilled with the personal choices exemplified in this topic recently. Nod towards potty humor included.
In a sense I'm washing my hands and going for the door here.

Transition from Arcade Paradise to a game with official SEGA arcade was enjoyable.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
so, the first descendant get its first major update and season 1 ...
i have a day off ... monthly income rolled in and i got a bonus ... oh well

first ... check the new descendant ... not bad but not my style ... most mats for her are in hard mode, i will farm for her later

second check the battlepass so i can decide if my bonus will go in ... ohhhh it will, Sigvore's Proof was an awesome ult but EXCAVA, ohhh my
20240830083434_1.jpg
well it's less rate of fire and AOE than a 4/4 Thunder Cage ... but what a monster of an AR, deed done, i will max out the BP right of the bat (didn't even need to use my full bonus ... so, more beer :D )

third : doing a "Old Mystery" instance in Hagios for gits and shiggle and yes ... EXCAVA is definitely my thing

check the new content for skins ...

ok basically Ajax turned Gundam, Lepic went full Guyver, Yujin enrolled in the Wolf Brigade (Jin-Roh) and EXCAVA skin from the battlepass is definitely EVA01 themed ... I F'ING APPROVE!
