I am using the 24H2 iso from MS, seems pretty decent tbh. Nice and snappy, even with just a very mild system tune.

Somewhere on this site, I searched, recent mention of either a repackaged ISO or highly developed scripting after install stuck in my head. @lexluthermiester ?

All of my references are out of date including archive sites that used to be good resources for different languages and versions of W11.

Loaded untouched 22H2 ISO onto a flash drive in 2022 which I continued using through yesterday. Is there reason to go 23H2 or better modern alternative to slowly debloating using multiple programs after install?
The 23H2 is the same OS core, so no real reason not to. Probably use that and start from there.

Microsoft is claiming some improvements in the update process for 24H2
For the time being, if any of you want to use 24H2, install fresh because...

I spoke with Lenovo regarding update KB5044380 for Windows 11 since I had a customer with a X1 Carbon 12th gen where the webcam, fingerprint reader and more stopped working and I was told they had reports for roughly a week now with customers of Lenovo products experiencing problems because of this update.

Not a great start.
...this and a fair number of other problems have been discovered, which is a surprise to no-one. The fresh ISO does not have these issues.

Somewhere on this site, I searched, recent mention of either a repackaged ISO or highly developed scripting after install stuck in my head. @lexluthermiester ?
You can use the following to create a autounattend.xml file.
Choose your desired options and then select Download XML at the bottom.
To use it, copy the file generated into the root of the USB drive you write the ISO to and Bob's your uncle.

Well do you expect people world wide to completely reinstall their systems because Microsoft is unable to make a update that works when it's not included in a fresh iso?

No and most of the people reading this are tech-junkies. For us, a fresh install of Windows is ez-breezy. The general user needs to delay updates as far as they can, a setting they can control.

but better not disable UAC
Why is that?
not enable WDAC policy
Most don't know what this is. I never use it as I control apps on my system another way.
After installation can complement with W10Privacy https://www.w10privacy.de/
That does look interesting, never seen it before. I does look a bit out of date.

Disabling UAC will likely cause problems with software installation and some weirdness related to whether
the administrator status is enabled or disabled, one time a script was stuck saying admin must be enabled.
Enabling WDAC policy will break some apps which install in other folders. IIRC, Ableton Live is one of those.

I have never used UAC on my own personal systems and have never had any problems with anything.

Fair enough. Never used it.
IIRC, Ableton Live is one of those.
Never used that either. Couldn't care less.

The only goog way to use WIndows is to use the builtin Admin account

I use builtin account Admin, zero problems ever.

UAC is the worst interface thing that hapened to an O/S !!

You've never run any portable executable from outside the traditional executable locations?

It's not great, but neither is privilege escalation. They did botch the rollout of UAC in Vista, but it's in a much less onerous state now, IMO.

I'm gonna disagree on UAC and just quote this thing from Raymond Chen:

There’s a control panel that lets you specify how often you want to be prompted by UAC. You can set any of four levels:
  • Always notify
  • Notify only when apps try to change settings, use the secure desktop
  • Notify only when apps try to change settings, don’t use the secure desktop
  • Never notify
Although it looks like there are four settings, in a theoretical sense, there really are only two settings.
  • Always notify
  • Meh

Software in general should have just gotten used to operating under the least privilege principle right off with Windows XP, not wait until UAC appeared on the scene to start getting their shit together.

Yup. The POPCNT instruction set on the CPU die is now required. CPU's that don't have it will freeze during the setup boot.

In other news: This was a very interesting article.
Andrew touches on a number of point that mirror my experiences. I did learn a few things though. For those of you who are doing the same that article is worth a read.

Recall getting delayed again.

Also, there was some mention, either in this thread or another, about Recall getting shoved in everyone's PCs with 24H2.
That seems to be wrong and what's going on is that Microsoft simply put in code for the feature to be easily removable. It's just that Windows handles dependencies and optional features in a very peculiar manner.

Jesus, just axe the feature at this point - it’s a dumb one to begin with and has caused more PR headache for MS than it can possibly be worth. I don’t see many people salivating over it and clamoring to use it anyway.

microsoft enforces TPM - which I turn off for certain reasons.

My ASUS X670-P mainboard has a issue with TPM and my saved config to the usb file. I had to redo the config two months ago as i could not play back the config file to the mainboard. Usually you can load your settings from an older asus mainboard uefi version to a newer asus mainboard version.
This enforces me to do a clear all settings of the mainboard. That did not work. Last time i flashed by chance a newer version of the uefi to get tpm with stock settings enabled again. Just to update windows 11 pro to 24h2.

TPM is again turned off - no real reason for having tpm for daily gaming usage in combination with w11 pro 24h2.

well it's just same thing as google has started back days it's "account" stuff, now we have "account for browser" BS. MS just "stays up-to-date" with stupid modern "trends" lol:D
But I agree, even I would't use any "modern" app for serious, the account BS is nonsense.

"plain" 24H2 could have "updated ISO", but I DOUBT this will be true for LTSC. So, it's up to you, sirs/madams, what to use, but I prefer LTSC (IDC about "iot" hype, I'm OK with just LTSC tho.)

....
tbf, at least with google it's a "strongly encouraged" vs "requires"....
since 7 I've enjoyed watching as bloggers insist on statements like "this is only for the insiders/beta, so they can gather more data for testing" and "of course it will be opt in", to quietly saying "well, it's for your own good".....

Funny you (roundabout) bring up the Insider program, because look what's getting more AI stuff (much to the dislike of some)? Notepad and Paint:
