I am trying to get 98 on a cf card it gets to the end and says press any key ,then the computer shuts down,
LOL, that was actually a feature of Windows 95 and Windows 98, if there was an error related to a critical file missing or corrupted. You will see the error message, then when you press a key, it actually sends command to turn off PC.

How can an Industrial drive suddenly be a removable drive 461? o_OI will have to try it in my Mac and see if first aid can fix it.I can,t believe it..Why does it say there are all those Partitions on Windows. When it says it has no problems on my Mac. o_O

I miss that glossy look
Me too!

Well when i first tried it on the board the screen kept on flickering.I can move the speed setting to max.I click new bench marl it comes to 452 i click anything it goes off ti 454 i changed setting to 4x and 8x show.

I am trying to get 98 on a cf card it gets to the end and says press any key ,then the computer shuts down,
The flickering might be normal if that display resets itself for every resolution change.

MikeTech has made some more fun! Some cringe moments in this, but Mike didn't do it..

Try erasing with zeroes to the card. The installer seems to hate there even being traces of a partition in some cases.

The ATI 9600XT has started showing lines on the screen, doe,s that mean it needs a good clean ,or is it on the way out?o_O
Bios is not installed ?If it is not installed o_O how come XP it worked up to the point of the blue screen?

I think its better to start a new topic as mentioned before. It starts to become a mess between the other postings
First you were posting about a v7100, now its the ATI 9600XT.

Post specs from CPU, mobo, HDD/SSD/RAM/GPU
And software like OS, Service packs and other installed software driver versions etc.

And take pictures of the screen what you see...

edit: I ever used Windows 2000 on a CF card too, but it isn't that fast. Maybe even slower. For DOS/W9x/ME it's working fine

For now i would say:

1. Connect a good HDD to the system, remove the CF card
2. Load Windows 2000 setup
3. When it shows any partitions, select them, and remove them by pressing D (as the image says)
4. After deleting all partitions it shows a message like "120000000MB in unallocated space) (depending on drive size)
5 (after that i personally reboot and start setup again, but you also can continue to next step
6. When it comes to the select drive, choose the unallocated drive space, and create new partition in it, select the full space. After that continue, and format the drive to NTFS.

I changed my previous post a bit.

When you want good help, you have to provide with the correct information...

I also read a lot about a flickering monitor...
Is it flickering from changing the resolution? Is it flickering during setup? (Setup is warning for it during setup because of detection of the hardware)
Or is it a bad VGA connector? How do the pins look like? Or maybe just artifacts from a dying card(s)? It could also be a bad AGP slot with corrosion

Tried to Linux like it was 2007 (Ubuntu 6.06 the same version I used back in the same era) and failed cuz I fought with the broadcom wireless and tried literally everything to get it working and nothing... it saw the adapter after installing the windows drivers w ndiswrapper but only wep security protocols worked and not WPA, tried the wpa_supplicant package and nothing. So gave up and installed Vista for a retro experience on this laptop..

I got it going with changing the cabals ,the CF card must be fault i am a bit peed of with that as it was a 32gb one and supposedly new on eBay.Has any one else had one going wrong?o_O
When i shut it down it starts up again:(Any one know the answer ro that?o_OThe secret is to get the drivers for the GPU you don,t need to download DirectX.It seems on here if you want something done you have to work it out yourself.

Controversial opinion: I had a Dell XPS 410 (also saved from the trash in 2020) that had a Core2 Duo E6600, 2 GB of RAM, and a Radeon HD 6850. I thought Vista was fine. I think a lot of the issues stemmed from optimization because it was hard to run on most PCs. Research the development history if you want to know why. I think it's quite intriguing.

Oh yeah, plenty of times. Cables can go bad if their bent too much or too often.

XP is lighter and would run better/more smoothly. Even to this day, there is a surprising amount of offline usefulness in XP.
cool... guess I'll do that tonight but will xp still activate?
