Like I said, got it on sale, so to me the price was awesome, and was considered a good deal in Americaland too.
That's good for you, but it doesn't prove a point in general.

Nvidia will be its own downfall. They will continue to focus extreme pricing to a smaller and smaller group of consumers. The non-professional PC gamer/user will either maintain old hardware or give up until something better comes along - whether that be AMD, Intel or someone else.

I bought a 4080 super last week. I literally cant afford what the 5 series will cost. And to me PC gaming does not matter that much to me to spend that kind of money. I'd rather buy a nice sound system or upgrade my home theater. Forget PC gaming at this point.

I expect some console exclusive titles and console ports will run and look better on AMD gpus than the games devs won't bother doing anything at all.
And its not like devs even care about anything but Nvidia gpus, implementation of FSR is terrible in some Nvidia sponsored games.
Ofc it is, the devs pay royalties on dlss...

Their sales numbers indicate otherwise. As I see it, the majority of PC gamers are eating the "Nvidia is a luxury brand so I should pay a luxury price for a luxury product" bullshit like sweetcakes, while content creators and professionals choose Nvidia because of CUDA instead of whatever AMD has to offer on that front. AMD is kept alive by their console and data center GPU sales. Let's hope that changes with the next (few) generations.

No. MSRP matters, because that's the intended price by the manufacturer. You pay taxes and tariffs on top of that regardless if it's a 6700 XT, 7700 XT or a 4080 Ti.

Product tier is an imaginary concept that only exists in one's head. I can call my new GPU the Potato FX 5000 or 7000 or 9900. It doesn't matter. What matters is its price and performance.
Not being overpriced for that matter which are nv

Also AMD is realigning things over 2025 to create UDNA for 2026+ product stacks.

if people didn't understand covid and saw that price today they would be like "he was laundering money or buying drugs"
In terms of harm "price wise" gpu mining is way more damaging even scalpers saw that happening in mining and after that just used it as a profit. Covid does not come even close.

This is the reason for Nvidia's market share sky rocketing, while AMD's plummeting.
RX 7600 - sidegrade

View attachment 375991

RX 7600 XT - useless with slow shaders and overkill VRAM amount

RX 7700 XT - sidegrade
View attachment 375992

RX 7800 XT - downgrade
1% = sidegrade
22% = sidegrade

So what did we learn today?

1 equals 22

Oh look! Another sidegrade for $100 more (500>>600 = +25% $$$)

Joking aside you cannot making up things and call 7600 a replacement for 6650XT because you like to stick to your narrative.

6600 ($330)
7600 ($270)

At the end what matters is performance/MSRP and not naming.

Indeed because they have been doing nothing but making Xbox Games for the last few years right?

Good for Indiana Jones. Does POE2 have path tracing? I guess you are happy with the Game though as that Games seems to have been made for your specific GPU.

Steam Hardware? Of the 5 PCs in my house do you know which one is registered to the Steam Hardware survey? My 3060 based laptop. 7000 is such a misguided GPU. It blows my mind how they score way higher than 6000 on TPU charts but people think that they are no faster.

Funny that you are commenting in a thread about Nvidia owning 90% of dGPU marketshare, yet still think Steam Hardware Survey is inaccurate :D

POE2 is not owned by MS, btw POE2 insanely favors RTX, I guess that's a given since Nvidia has 90% of the marketshare

I agree, performance tiers don’t hold the same relevance anymore. Not with all the skimping, wider artificial segmentation, bus and compression manipulation, diminishing/locking features, etc and not forgetting S, TI, TIS, GRE, XT, XTX variations disrupting the once measurable landscape. Nowadays GPU manufacturers are not afraid of becoming more transparent in how cleverly they manipulate performance tiers. Evidently theres a big surge in prioritising profits with equal weight in disregarding the much desired 'balanced segmentation', all to drive purchasing decisions.

Since Maxwell, I haven’t settled for anything below the 80-class - thats a solid 10 years as an "80s pup" with the 3080 being my last. But going forward, looks like I’ll be downgrading to the 70-class (or anything similar around the $800-mark). I just can't come to terms with spending over $1000 on a GPU for a 1440p desktop setup - it's obscene!

What I find funny is 13-year-old kids on YouTube talking about my first build how did I do with a 4090 or a 5090. My parents moved us entirely from New York to New Jersey with $900 in their pocket the kids nowadays just have free cash from Mommy and Daddy's pockets.

I guess so, but everyone seems to hate it for some reason. I don't use either CUDA or ROCm, so I wouldn't know.
Sounds like the same hoopla that gn and hwb did on the FX8350, but RA Tech proved otherwise.

People hates ROCm because it's only available on limited desktop GPU, mostly the latest RDNA 3 and high end RDNA 2. CUDA? My old RTX 2060 Super runs just fine.

I think that's the general idea why they wanted to go back to one unified design.

gtx 980 - launch price: 550 usd
adjusted for inflation: 730usd

the math checks out, but it will never happen, AMD needs to sell and they still launched the 7900xt (and it's still bit below the 4080) for 900usd and i bet it's not more exactly because they can't sell to save their lives

Is China still buying 4090s? I could post numbers too. If you enjoy your GPU that is good but don't make it seem like AMD's are useless compared to the truth. The Steam Charts were always taken with a grain of salt and as long as China is still buying as many 4090s as it can this 90% narrative should be as well.

I used POE2 for the RT argument not the MS argument. In North America who do MS not own?

Yes I also love Gaming at 4K 144Hz my FV43U is one of my fave purchases. My 6800XT struggled to run it at 4K but my 7900XT makes me Game more than I should.

I don't get why you are against chinese market being accounted for on a global scale, even when AMD released 3 GPUs specifically for the chinese market (6750 GRE 10GB, 6750GRE 12GB and 7900GRE), some particular reason you would like to share?

First you say MS own the majority of game studio that will make games favor AMD, which is definitely not the case with the newly released Indiana Jones. Then you make reference to POE2, which is not owned by MS in any way and heavily favor RTX, kinda shooting yourself in the foot there. Thirdly it's quite absurd to even think North America has the majority of game studio in the world.

Edit: if you don't believe in Steam chart nor this Jon Peddie report, how about AMD own financial reports and their dwindling gaming sector revenue?

Nvidia doesn't have 90% market share because people buy snake oil, they have it because they make better gpus and other companies can't match them in hardware or software. Since AMD can't best them at perf all they can do is try to beat them at price/perf ratio and now they also have Intel attacking them at sub $300 tier.

all AMD was doing was waiting for Nvidia prices, lower them a small bit and wait to grab some sales, hoping people trade a couple of bucks for lower tier software and worst RT. This is not a success strategy, this is exactly the opposite. And they were going for the same next years, now heads are probably spinning with ARC gpus.
If they wanted to succeed they would just release their cards, with their own pricing ahead of Christmas and Nvidia... that's what Intel did, even if it just seems like another paper launch.

The only thing they had going for them was the VRAM and even that ARC took from them.

It depends what you mean by snake oil, IMO the fact that Nvidia sells the 4060 as being an upgrade over the previous gen by using DLSS and frame gen very much is snake oil.
As for Intel Arc, they are likely taking a loss in order to get into the mid range market, its a decent card yet I still see some hardcore Nvidia fans bashing it. I'm not surprised AMD gets the blame for matching the prices Nvidia has set on the market, and even if AMD did launch first with lower price people would still buy Nvidia and blame AMD for what Nvidia is charging.

I am not against the Chinese Market. I just wanted to illustrate that it is the Chinese Govt that is buying 4090s and not the market. Those GPUs from AMD were indeed released to the Eastern market but not bought by the Govt.

I never claimed that MS owned POE2.

Here is the kicker though. In the age of Gaming could someone tell the difference between 110 and 90 FPS without a FPS counter? In that chart do you know if they had SAM and Rebar enabled?

Freesync provides smooth Gaming from 45-144 hz and that means that you are enjoying your PC even at 50 FPS.

The narrative is very strong though just ask yourself, what enthusiasts were so hyped for USB4 that AMD was convinced that no one would mind not having 2 PCIe lanes connected to the CPU? Well As Rock did it for the Taichi and Taichi lite and both of those boards are sold out. Meanwhile the X870E E Strix is still readily available.
