No, in desktops it doesn't matter, latency-wise, whether a NIC is onboard or in a PCIe slot. It goes through the same PCIe mechanism in both cases.

While that's true, not all drivers are created equal and not all chipsets are created equal. Connections are not everything. Processing times effect latency and the chipset & drivers are important in that process.

However, this thread is not the right place for that discussion. As such, I digress..

I geneally have Intel x540 10 GbE cards in my desktops.

(there are machines that have NICs directly connected to the CPU, but that is not relevant to consumer hardware)

I do have 10 GBE cards as well, but right now, I need the PCIe lanes for my 4k camera capture. I believe I have a 2.5 NIC thats 1x but its a Realtek RTL 8125B chip. Ill take a look at the intel 2.5 cards, which chip should I look for? 226?

Edit: Looks like my built in NIC is a 225V3...

And here is my new capture card. Works pretty great with my Sony Mirrorless for 4K. Ordered some replacement tubing for the Ferrari XPS 512M mod and that came today as well.

Holy crap, that's a good deal! I sold my G920 for US$125 and I thought that was pretty cheap.

I got lucky, A friend bought the wheel not long ago and only used it a few times on his ps5 then got bored so asked if i wanted it for cheap.
I think he knew he would miss it but knows he can come round here and have a drive anytime lol

The wheel and base and pedals cost £599 on thrustmaster website and £549 on amazon atm so i defo got a good deal.
I think the stand cost around £120 to so getting that chucked in was a bonus.

how humid is it there? for me, just some vaccum bags and a pack of silicon dessicant does the trick. its around 40% humidity here.

I have noticed i have humidity issues from shit suppliers of filament, rather than anything with actual humidity.

Humidity varies where the printer is, during the night gets colder and damper. But I regularly have the filament snap and break.....not a question of if, but when.
It could be I tightened the extruder drive sprocket too much and after a while it breaks the filament. I have loosened it a bit, see what happens.
Desiccant bags work until their capacity to absorb is complete and then you need to "revitalize" them, but that's a whole different can of worms.
I am 50/50 about dryers. I see print farms with thousands of printers not using a single filament dryer and some people swear by them.
I am a bit of perfectionist , so I would try the best conditions possible when I do what I like to do, so I am giving the idea a chance.

Avoid, actually. This is one place Intel really screwed up. Their 2.5gbps-only cards are full of silicon level bugs, which is unfortunate because usually they are awesome.

There are some revisions that work better than others, but none are truly perfect.

like the issue i faced before, have you tried getting different sources of filament? I found a locally made source thats not just cheap but better than all the creality and elegoo stuff i have tested. Probably because the foreign ones are sitting in damp warehouses for a long time and get moisture.

Also, i pre heat the bed and keep the filament on it for a bit before printing

Realteks aren't awful but bandwidth aside, yes the intel is better. Lower driver overhead.
