Well I finally got the last piece I wanted for my Truck Sim rig. I’ve been watching it for a few month. The price was the factor. I finally caught it close to half price(Temu) in fact th price was so good I ordered a 2nd one I’m gonna send to my main gaming buddy. He’s made a DIY one so I figure I’d treat him to something plug and play.

I currently have one of these on there:

But sustained transfers are still hitting 84'c.

(Yes it may be OTT as its not a Gen 5 drive but in summer. Ambient temps are going to be 27-32'c+ here so Im preparing for it)

Good buy! I bought the a580 when it came out to use in my editing, it was great with 1080p video, but not as powerful as my RTX4070Super for 4k and effects processing. Granted it was $450 more, so thats to be expected, but the a580 was a beast in most cases. Never gamed on it however.
Hopefully Intel keeps this up and continues the excellent driver updates, so I may jump back in next year...

What speed is that NIC? What is the speed of your onboard? I have all 2.5 onboards, but have a 2.5 pcie card as well as a couple of 10x2 cards.

Wow, big drive. I have used several of the Thermalright M2 heatsinks, they are great value and I prefer the one with the lil fan on it. Be sure to post some results!

Battlemage has driver-based frame generation like AFMF and latency reduction, doesn't it? May you test it as well, if you fancy?
the low latency mode seems to work as intended (very responsive and smooth gameplay even at ~70 FPS) but i have not found any frame generation?

Must've been my mistake, then. I thought Intel implemented a driver-based FG as well as LL.

Let us know how thingie works out, heat-wise and noise-wise. I need one, too, but I want something semi-quiet.

Noise wise. I dont expect it to be any different. Its a passive heatsink with more surface area and no fan attached. Im sure i'll be quite happy with it because it will sit below my GPu and the fans on that will create some airflow. I also have a 120mm fan on the bottom of my case.

I think I do have a 60mm fan or something I could zip tie on if need be but I think i'll be fine.

Oh I couldn't really see in the screenshot. I thought it is a fan-equipped tower.

how is the noise cancelling on these? can you still hear people talking when you are out and about? or are the voices muffled at least? I know it probably blocks out low end like cars and stuff really well

Another Lian-Li Edge 1300W PSU for the EVO XL being delivered tomorrow by 10PM. I don't think this motherboard got enough appreciation. 9800X3D likes it.

I am an absolute idiot.

But I needed another AM4 board, and this one cost 4 bux more than my Strix -F when it was new..

And I feel bad for killing my first one, I prefer it over my Dark Hero lol..

Bought a fitness tracker. Huawei Band 9. Nothing fancy. Just heart rate tracking, sleep tracking and step counter. I personally like the look and software competency of Xiaomi's bands but according to The Quantified Scientist on YT (smart watch/fitness tracker review god that guy), Xiaomi's performance sucks consistently since forever, while Huawei is only second to Apple Watches.

Would've bought Fitbit Charge 6 if it was available here.

Onboard is 2.5G, the Intel one is 1G. Speed rating isn't everything in this case. The internet subscription I have is for 28MB/s max download speed, so I am not nearly close to maxing out either adapter. It's just there are other features and going though the PCIe slot makes a difference. I don't have a NAS, so having a 10G is hard to justify. ;)

I just upgraded my CPU & RAM. I have been waiting for the 9950X price to drop but no luck, wish I had upgraded sooner.

The new 9950X is much better silicon with lower temps, voltages and now I have memory straps above 8000MTs.

My SP 116 7950X VF-Points vs new SP 118 9950X.

Onboard network chipsets are generally less than great. That is an excellent card!
I wondered. Intel chipsets seem to be the best. But, I figured adding a card that was the same or slower speed NIC would add latency.... so unless I needed more speed, I stuck with onboard. Although this thinking is generalized, is it incorrect?

Intel chipsets seem to be the best.
Currently, yeah, Intel is the best.
But, I figured adding a card that was the same or slower speed NIC would add latency....
It depends. Like all things tech, there are details and subtleties that can affect performance metrics. Generally speaking though, a dedicated network card is going to have better and more optimized drivers, the chipset is likewise going to be more optimized, so even if you compare a 1Gb card to a 2.5Gb onboard, the 1Gb card is likely going to offer the better experience until you go beyond the 1Gbps limit.

No, in desktops it doesn't matter, latency-wise, whether a NIC is onboard or in a PCIe slot. It goes through the same PCIe mechanism in both cases.

I geneally have Intel x540 10 GbE cards in my desktops.

(there are machines that have NICs directly connected to the CPU, but that is not relevant to consumer hardware)

A price drop a few days upfront XMas? Do you also believe in Santa Clause and wonders in general?
