What's your latest tech purchase?

No, in desktops it doesn't matter, latency-wise, whether a NIC is onboard or in a PCIe slot. It goes through the same PCIe mechanism in both cases.
While that's true, not all drivers are created equal and not all chipsets are created equal. Connections are not everything. Processing times effect latency and the chipset & drivers are important in that process.

However, this thread is not the right place for that discussion. As such, I digress..

Dual spool filament dryer. Bought on Black Friday, but I just unpacked it and I have to find time to install it. It was either this one or Creality Pi.

I geneally have Intel x540 10 GbE cards in my desktops.

(there are machines that have NICs directly connected to the CPU, but that is not relevant to consumer hardware)
I do have 10 GBE cards as well, but right now, I need the PCIe lanes for my 4k camera capture. I believe I have a 2.5 NIC thats 1x but its a Realtek RTL 8125B chip. Ill take a look at the intel 2.5 cards, which chip should I look for? 226?

Edit: Looks like my built in NIC is a 225V3...

And here is my new capture card. Works pretty great with my Sony Mirrorless for 4K. Ordered some replacement tubing for the Ferrari XPS 512M mod and that came today as well.

Holy crap, that's a good deal! I sold my G920 for US$125 and I thought that was pretty cheap.
I got lucky, A friend bought the wheel not long ago and only used it a few times on his ps5 then got bored so asked if i wanted it for cheap.
I think he knew he would miss it but knows he can come round here and have a drive anytime lol

The wheel and base and pedals cost £599 on thrustmaster website and £549 on amazon atm so i defo got a good deal.
I think the stand cost around £120 to so getting that chucked in was a bonus.

how humid is it there? for me, just some vaccum bags and a pack of silicon dessicant does the trick. its around 40% humidity here.

I have noticed i have humidity issues from shit suppliers of filament, rather than anything with actual humidity.

Humidity varies where the printer is, during the night gets colder and damper. But I regularly have the filament snap and break.....not a question of if, but when.
It could be I tightened the extruder drive sprocket too much and after a while it breaks the filament. I have loosened it a bit, see what happens.
Desiccant bags work until their capacity to absorb is complete and then you need to "revitalize" them, but that's a whole different can of worms.
I am 50/50 about dryers. I see print farms with thousands of printers not using a single filament dryer and some people swear by them.
I am a bit of perfectionist :), so I would try the best conditions possible when I do what I like to do, so I am giving the idea a chance.

intel 2.5 cards
Avoid, actually. This is one place Intel really screwed up. Their 2.5gbps-only cards are full of silicon level bugs, which is unfortunate because usually they are awesome.

There are some revisions that work better than others, but none are truly perfect.

like the issue i faced before, have you tried getting different sources of filament? I found a locally made source thats not just cheap but better than all the creality and elegoo stuff i have tested. Probably because the foreign ones are sitting in damp warehouses for a long time and get moisture.

Also, i pre heat the bed and keep the filament on it for a bit before printing :D

Wont run out for awhile now..

The stuff that I am using now is just terrible.

FiiO KB1K, the ABS version. The aluminum is twice as expensive and practically EOL IMO:

I haven't installed the software yet, so it's cylcing through the colours.

@VSG , all your fault :p Just kiddin. But your review made me discover FiiO. Next in line are the FT1. Saving up for them.

VERY clicky!! satisfyingly clicky keys on this one.

Guess Ill throw in a Intel 1GBE pcie card then. I assume thats better than the other 2.5 realtek card I have?

If/when you get the FT1, see if you also want to buy a boom mic cable like this: https://mezeaudio.com/products/boom-mic. It's basically a great ~$200 gaming/work headset and audiophile headphones in one then.

Realteks aren't awful but bandwidth aside, yes the intel is better. Lower driver overhead.

bought a bit of white filament from a friend ... not much, just enough for that
20241218_205334.jpg20241218_205343.jpg

and received the gimmicky gimmick
20241218_205300.jpg20241218_205306.jpg20241218_213641.jpg
quite good and hold well

and the macro/wide angle

fun things

I'm going to change up my cooling setup, so I grabbed a few EKWB pieces second hand. The block is NIB for less than MSRP and the pump/reservoir was a fifth the MSRP, so I don't feel like I'm paying EK tax.

Since I live for outdated and very cheap but still usable hardware, I upgraded my low budget X99 daily driver from a lowly Quadro K2200 4GB to a nice EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4GB that I found locally for a whole $30! I play mostly older games, so the Quadro K2200 which is basically a 4GB GTX 750 Ti has served me well, but it's not fully DX12 compliant (11_0). The GTX 960 is DX12 compliant (12_1) as it is Maxwell rev 2. The main reason for this is I was gifted Elden Ring via Steam, and it wouldn't run on the K2200 at all and the 960 runs fine on high/max settings at my Samsung TV's native 1366x768 resolution. I've never played a "Souls-like" game before and I'm quite liking Elden Ring so far! Good enough for me!!

Sad news , got rip off , do not but from AliExpress !!!!
Got entice for a 100 dollars off , if it's too good to be true ! buyer beware !!

AliExpress is the marketplace. Interactions will depend on the specific seller. Sorry you got scammed, but that can happen on eBay as well.

What little I've bought off of there has been a no hassle transaction.

You can open a dispute, though that may not make you whole. I've seen reports of people indicating they've had issues doing so with scammers.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, in all of its majesty, the GOAT:

Black label, UK-made IBM Model M type 1391405, complete with an original cable. Spanish-Spain layout. Unfortunately the sticker in the bottom has been removed, so I don't know the exact date of manufacture, although if I ever open it, it should be written inside. Squeaky clean, so no need for that right now. Person who sold me this keyboard claims it's from 1987-1988, and given all I found online the info checks out.

Finally I can't complain about typing out my thesis in the coming year or two...

Noice. I tried using a model M at VCFMW this year and I didn't think it was amazing per se, but still quite good. After all, keyboards are what I put under the P-squared category: Personal Preference.

This is easily the sturdiest keyboard I have ever used, it's the first time I've tried one and I'm still working out the kinks of the layout but the tactile feedback is amazing, I know that a key clicked by just feeling out my fingertips. The clings and clangs this thing generates are nothing short of heavenly, I actually typed out this post without even looking at the keyboard, It came out entirely correct, simply heaven.

I might be far more easily persuaded to part with the supremely fat wads of cash that brand new CIB Ms go for... I am just amazed at the state this keyboard is for its age. Sooo good.
