They sent us a CES pre-brief press deck under embargo with the launch materials for these cards
Oh I see. Thanks for the info. :)

Imagine powercolor and sapphire, they have designed a high end PCB, cooler, fans - for a card that is going to be 900+, and then amd said - well, you know what, let's make it 600 :banghead:

Explains those 3x8pin cards
What's weird is that the 9070 XT was never going to be a high-end product, AMD said it themselves. No one knew (or knows) where the idea of the 3x8-pin thick boys came from and why.

The difference is while I do want the 9070 XT to be a great product despite all the marketing blunders around it, I do not have any sympathy for someone who hits himself in the face with a hammer for Tiktok likes.

That's fair, whilst I've no doubt some FE cards will sell for the $999 MSRP, it'll probably be about 12 of them worldwide & every other AIB model will be WAY higher yes. But do we expect the AMD cards to be widely available at MSRP? I'd have thought the street price markup would be fairly similar on both sides, maybe a bit higher for Nvidia with their better brand recognition & higher sales numbers.
If stores keep stocking up, then I suppose they'll want to get rid of all the excess stock that has been sitting around collecting dust for two months at that point.

I don’t have any sympathy left for RTG either. I am all out of fucks to give. They have mismanaged what was once a great second player in the GPU market over the last decade so badly that giving any benefit of the doubt to them seems foolish. The “product” is holistic - it’s more than the card itself, it’s everything around it too and RTG has fumbled with that for a long while now. Hence the picture - they keep hitting themselves with a hammer repeatedly and then wonder why there are bruises on their face.

Guys, do you even think? I read the comments and don't see the most important - in order to justify a price tag of $900, this card must be at least 20-30% faster than the 24GB RX 7900 XTX, and even then, over time the games will make it bottleneck because of the miserable 16 GB VRAM. :kookoo:
Exactly! I call it lying Bulgarian retailer in desperate need of some media attention.

it will fail at that price, too close to Nvidia's GPUs like 5070ti, no idea what the price will be but I'd rather hear official news rather than rumours and placeholders

I understand that it's using TSMC 4nm (not 4N 5nm but 4nm), of course 4nm means nothing anymore but it's an expensive node...however 800-850 it's way too high, only bad nvidia shortages may give an opportunity here at that price.

it needs to be lower than 5070ti and max around 5070 price for me, unless really strong

"Everything around the product" seems pretty fine to me. Great Linux support, FSR 4 is spoken about quite positively, RT is said to get a huge bump this time around... there's nothing for me to complain about.

The only thing that sucks is the marketing, which I do not class as "everything around the product". Frank Azor can come on stage and burp out that the card is shit, I don't care. If it's good, I'll buy it.

If they honestly thought the 5070 was going to launch higher than $650 and the Ti higher than $900, Frank needs to be fired right now. No hesitation, just fire him.

The VRAM argument is a losing battle for all sides...AMD, Nvidia, AMD customers, Nvidia customers, etc. While I don't see how it would work for desktop discrete graphics cards, but laptop discrete graphics cards and iGPUs should have unified memory with the CPU. Maybe direct access to system RAM for desktop discrete graphics cards will make PCIe buses important again. This would mean that system memory will need to get a much needed updated with better latencies and more memory channels. Apple is the only one doing it right but they are charging a butt load for extra RAM. Socketable GPUs with RAM slots between the CPU and GPU sockets anyone?

The day you use upscaling and RT and then talk about them positively will be a day to remember! Or does this qualify as that... I could've sworn they were both gimmicks. Can't blame them for aspiring toward feature parity I suppose.

I do really hope they deliver on both promises though, those features are great when they deliver usable results. Current price guess is $649 for the XT.

For months I've seen AMD fanboys talking about 4080 performance for $499 lol. I was assuming there's no way they intended to cut price/perf that much (sure it'd be great though), but if it beats a 4070ti and costs around $599 that'd still be pretty good. For $800+ (hell for $700+), they're not just not competing at the high end, they're deciding not to compete at all this Gen. It's like "we made cards...they're ok, but we don't want you to buy them". What is going on over there?

Or you know just say what they are going to be priced at unless their plan is just to price them as close to the 70 series as possible like everyone expects.... They know when pre orders are gonna start but can't share actual perfomance or pricing....

There has gotta be a slide somewhere showing original pricing... I really hope it gets leaked lol.
AMD never gave any pricing at all as they already knew it was not going to be released at CES or soon after that event , so complete nonsense

You should avoid all people claiming prices from whoever claims anything, just wait and see that is the common sense tons of people lack on all forums i am on
They all want the price known before launch which is silly

When running RT doesn't require a $1,000 GPU, and FSR is pretty much indistinguishable from native (and when game devs don't use it as excuse for no optimisation), I'll speak about them positively, I promise. :)

Blaezalite mentioned these cards supposedly only exist for promotional purposes, although I'm not sure just how true that is:

Most of the cards showed are often mockups at CES that early look at the reviewers who got now the cards for testing and do have to send these card pretty fast after some little tests
After the official release of the cards we see the reality
Most reviewers wanted to test much more and longer to see what the cards are worth with more in depth situations, but NOPE they have to send them back in like 2 to 3 weeks time they have had with it
So no proper testing either.

AMD shipped the cards to retail but can't tell us the pricing because drivers aren't ready.

Also AMD people aren't idiots, if retail has the cards they know what the original pricing was.

Just when you think it couldn't get more interesting, it does. I'm starting to think the Radeon group product group just needs to be completely cleaned of house and rebuilt from the ground up, maybe pinch people from the Ryzen group?
I don't think its Radeon. This is AMD marketing. Its not exclusive to GPUs. We've seen multiple fuckups on the Zen side of things too, and that's just over the course of what, 6 generations of CPU. Half of them had issues with either product placement, timing, cannibalizing their own shit, AGESA updates post launch, etc.

Yes. That's some "the sky is blue because tigers are predators" level logic there.

But I assume they're under embargo until release date - because AMD people aren't idiots.

We first need to see in reality how well the card performs then we look at what price they get sold, but i already know what card is going to be filling my tiny pc case if it is really giving me a performance uplift ;) for the games i play
If not i am going to stick with my silly fast enough current card, also non of the games i have or want need more than 12-16 gb ram.
More is for those playing with video editing and other ram hungry tools

What does open source software have to do with launch info?
Also the hardware itself being faster isn't the same as the card being limited by VRAM.
AMD shipped the cards to retail but can't tell us the pricing because drivers aren't ready.

AMD hasn't said why the cards aren't ready, but I would guess they're waiting until the 5070 launch, AMD can't just undercut their cards by $50 when reviewers will hype up Nvidia regardless.
The retail pricing could be a placeholder until launch, IMO people need to calm down and wait until these really launch.

It sure as hell was marketing failing to check with the driver team then, of course it makes sense. Its ONE bloody company. Get real man. How do you produce powerpoint slides going public on one side, and then not have the product ready for said time to market on the other?!

i'm sorry what?! marketing is the one that checks if the drivers are ready?
they did the marketing because the tech said it was ready, that's how it works

...and send the product to retailers regardless? That's just probably the quickest, most convenient bullshit they could come up with.

A price adjustment is definitely in progress, although I do have my doubts of a $899 planned launch price. 7900 XT level performance at 7900 XT level price 2 years later doesn't make sense.
