I remember I saw UQ in The Alters, performance was similar to DLAA.
Weird. What I see with FSR is 110 FPS with Quality (66%), 91 FPS with 77% and 62 FPS with 100% (CP77, 1440p High, 6700 XT). Can't test DLSS out but the result must be similar.

yeah. taa is just awful, can't imagine people still prefer native+taa. It looks blurry enough in static shots, let alone in motion, where it's just a total mess.
dlss q/b look sharper, but leave a little more jaggies in static shots. They look much clearer in motion though.
The real winner is and has always been DLAA, it's close to pixel perfect in static shots and in motion as well.
comparison:
This is the issue for me, I have been comparing on screenshots, and motion is important.

I see Nvidia finally released the stuff needed, hopefully Nvidia app now lets you turn everything off that hurts performance? As it now finally has a good feature with the DLSS override. Guessing will also need to use the latest CyberPunk to play with it, not the one with the old balancing?

I feel like DLAA is the modern version of SGSSAA. Not as good, but still a big improvement over standard AA in modern games.

Tried it in a couple games at 1440p ultrawide and it doesn't change much for me still would prefer not to use it.... I had to run games on both my computers locally to even tell the Transformer model was better but during normal gameplay I can't tell them apart. Ultra performance and balanced are still terrible with Quality being I will use it if I have to... The transformer model does look slightly over sharpened to me and a little more crunchy is the best way I can describe it not sure I like how it handles foliage better at least when not zoomed in.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
This is the issue for me, I have been comparing on screenshots, and motion is important.
DLSS's first 5-6 years have been given more praise than they deserve because reviewers take screenshots of static scenes so often. Static screenshots make nice before/after comparisons and are taken with zero movement in order to get the closest/fairest comparison between different settings.

The thing is, DLSS absolutely excels at static screenshots, but that's not how people actually play games and until DLSS4's transformer model, DLSS has been total ass in motion. Compare these pairs of screenshots:

DLSS Performance in motion vs DLSS Performance while static - the image quality in motion is so obviously awful - we've got texture corruption, lots of jaggies, and an image that is somehow both too soft and also too noisy. When you stand still, it looks fine.
1738278142857.png

Native vs DLSS Performance while static for comparison; When you're standing still, even DLSS performance does a good job of detail and clarity IMO. The image is still a little too soft, but most of the detail is there as long as nothing moves.

True, DLSS looks awful in motion, even more pronounced when I use 27-inch 1080p display, it's not as bad on my 15-inch 1080p laptop. The transformer models look better, still not 100% but definitely a noticeable difference and actually usable. I'm happy that I can use it on my aging 2060 Super

That's what DLSS4 transformer model is aiming to fix, the blur and smear when moving. It's not 100% perfect but it's a good start and will only start getting better.

Also, there's a new DLSS4 transformer preset on the new drivers, introduces Preset K which a bit of an improvement on the current preset J, still testing

So my opinion on DLSS is different to how it's been for the last six years, because DLSS4 changes everything.
This is partly why I believe the thread for owners/users is useful, and am very glad the old title reference to just being for 2.0 is gone. Even everything between 2.0 and transformer had a stack of improvements and iteration along the way. Transformer is a massive shift and this can be somewhat of a dedicated space for that moving forward.

We can have one thread to discuss it without the opinion of people who don't use it or haven't in years. Like someone who played Cyberpunk at launch using DLSS 2.1 Q at 1080p, or worse yet, someone who never used it at all and perhaps are also biased toward Nvidia negatively, those aren't the experience (or lack thereof) driven discussions on image quality and performance I'm after in this thread, and it's already been considered by a mod to be tantamount to trolling here. Even more broadly I barely consider them relevant or meritorious tbh given the lack of first-hand experience driving them, but they can and do voice those opinions in any other thread but this one.

To be fair, I don't want this to just be a positivity echo chamber, I will hear from anyone who does use/test it in current games, that's the discussion I want here. There are many valid criticisms against it and in sharing them, people might even find tips on how to improve their experience.
So I digress.... DLSS4 is a massive uplift, and I'm looking forward to dropping in the new NEW DLL tonight with Preset K, the second transformer iteration :toast:

TAA has motion issues, shimmering, so if thats what transformer mode has targeted, then I can see why people testing it are impressed. On the static pics it looks over sharpened compared to the older model.

I got tied up in stuff so still not installed new drivers and such, but hopefully will play with it later after some sleep.

I used DLSS back when I had 3080 while it looked good, it wasn't amazing. Sure standing still when image got time to accumulate the details from previous frames it looked basically like native but once you moved it clearly showed artifacts. It was acceptable look to me however considering the perf boost. But that's when I noticed some youtube channels/reviewers weren't exactly honest about DLSS, giving it only praise.

Then at launch I switched to 7900XTX and switched to FSR. Image quality was worse in general but noticed that it depended on the game a lot more than DLSS. You could have pretty good image quality in some games and then completely broken one in others. DLSS was a lot more predictable.

Sold off my XTX two weeks ago, to buy 5080 and bought one month of Geforce Now (4080 plan) until I managed to do so and first off I launched Cyberpunk and turned on DLSS and RR and oh my god did RR look bad. I was shocked since I never heard it being brought up in mainstream tech sites. Image was oily, full of artifacts. It looked like you got Midjourney generated images 60 times per second. It looked like DLSS1 from back in the day. Even FSR which has pretty bad implemenation in Cyberpunk looked better.
Then Cyberpunk got updated with Transformer model and it fixed it, image quality was very good even with RR.

My 5080 should arrive today so I will test more games and I'm really curious to check some and compare them with how they looked with FSR. I expect a big image quality boost but we will see.

Honestly, after the overly-soft, blurry detail loss of older DLSS using CNN models, I'll take overly sharp. Most games have temporal blur from TAA anyway, so IMO it's not "over sharpened", it's just undoing the damage that native TAA and older DLSS has been doing.

Still, I will have a play with the sharpness slider tonight, I'm usually cranked to 75% or 100% in a failed attempt to fix prior versions' loss of detail and sharpness, perhaps there's a new sweet spot for in-game sharpness sliders with Transformer.

Wondering if Smooth Motion is same model as DLSS or something else. Considering that on driver level there are no motion vectors and other bits that help DLSS do its trick it might be a different one.

My AFMF experience showed it's of VERY limited usefulness. At least 80% generated frames are severely damaged precisely because there's no access to motion vector data.

Will if I have time do some testing over weekend, so I can make a opinion based on moving frames in a game. :)

the released dlss with preset k, feels like a bit of bait and switch, it reverted a lot of the preset J features that gave it a super crisp and clean image that people were using from the 2077 dll's

you still can force it, but is not the default one.

I sound like a broken clock but DLSS, even the older CNN model, allows you to get a 4k monitor, use DLSS Q, end up at the same performance as you would on a native 1440p monitor but with wildly better image quality. And I think that's where the discussion ends and DLSS becomes one of the most important modern gaming technologies.

We have people a few pages back that, when they had an nvidia card they said, and im quoting

"Can't tell the difference between native and DLSS"

"It's free performance"

"I'd be an idiot not to use it"

"I'd rather use it than lower settings"

The same people, when they moved on to a non nvidia card made an 180 turn and now claim the exact opposite. And that was on a 1080p monitor, the by far worse showing for DLSS.

Am confused again. Can preset j still be used with NV app? Also what released DLL's you mean?

i still see a lot of artefacts, smearing, lights flashing, etc... and i hate stuff that breaks immersion, i prefer 60fps without any of those issues.
I'm hoping this improvements will fix it. I would prefer not to use it, but it's almost impossible with modern games.

Got my 5080 yesterday, reinstalled Windows to start fresh, installed some games including Stalker 2 because I wanted to try Override mode but I get this:

On other games it works. It's gamepass version but Indy and Forza also are from Gamepass and menu works there. Anyone has the same issue?

Yeah, closed, restarted, added path manually, doesn't work. But I think I know what the problem is as I wanted to add exe file manually it thrown an error that I don't have access to that file, so it's a access rights issue. Xbox app is stupid in that way. But need to check how it is that Indiana and Forza work.

Out of 4 games it detected on my end (5th should be detected but isn't for some Nvidia related reason) 3 show up as "unable to retrieve settings".

And that was on a 1080p monitor, the by far worse showing for DLSS.
Had seen FSR1 (One) on a 720p display in the Ultra Performance mode. That was literally impossible to tell what the hell was going on in the game.

Am confused again. Can preset j still be used with NV app? Also what released DLL's you mean?
it can, but sometimes when some presets are not used as default, nvidia ends phasing them out, so preset J will be probably just temporarily there before they delete it.

released dll's as the 2077 ones where preset j was the new dlls 4 and preset k didn't exist. As soon as they released the drivers, K is selected as the default for dlss 4, and preset K is again super blurry compared to J, which was the one they used to showcase the super crisp image of dlss 4
