Too much work, and family, to really get to play with the new GPU out here so far
Good to hear that Afterburner has extended memory OC limits, though!

Since it has been a while since I needed to check a GPU OC for stability...
Can you guys recommend any good benchmarks/stress tests for stability testing?
Besides just gaming, of course :)

Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk are on my short list of stress test games; anything else that is extremely OC sensitive I should have in mind?

Specifically for tuning the memory, is UNIGINE Heaven in windowed mode still the preferred method?
As I recall from my 3070 adventures, the memory can go quite a bit higher than is stable, thanks to the ECC, to the point of loosing performance.
Though, as dated as Heaven is, I would guess it will end up being CPU limited by my 5800X, and not show any differences from the memory tuning...

Too bad GDDR does not throw WHEA errors (I believe ), as that would make everything quite a bit easier!
You just have to sacrifice sleep and time is there:roll:. Bonus points scored with wife as its always me going to our kid in the night :D

As for testing I use 3d mark for synthetics, Speed Way, Port Royal and Nomad. Two first put good stress because of RT and Nomad even though it's pure raster puts huge amount of power on the GPU. After my OC it's 400W constantly when running it.
Gametech benchmark is good as well, found it on forum here. It's UE5, available on steam.
Unigine Superposition is the next one.
For games as you mentioned CP2077, Witcher 3 but also Alan Wake II, tried Stalker 2 as well but that can crash for other reasons than OC.And whatever I have installed, Forza Motorsport, Space Marine 2 and Black Myth Wukong.

So far current OC passed all of the above so I'll need to push it further.

Nice that Palit decided to add some extras in the box.
MSI only shipped along a plug adapter, and a pretty sad GPU brace.

I have stayed on +400 on core and +1000 on memory, it's stable. Don't need to go over that for now at least :D

Also I changed my LG 42 C2 120Hz for 32' QD OLED from Aorus to get that 4K 240Hz refresh and I tested the dreaded DLSS MFG in Cyberpunk at least. Gotta say even though I still think that going the marketing way of "5070 is equal to 4090 now!" was in the best case stupid in worst just malicious, playing CP2077 with the Transformer model, scaling set to Performance and FG to 4X and getting easily 150-200 fps I'm very impressed. Sure latency is not the same as playing with only real frames but the smoothness!

On my 4090 SUPRIM LIQUID X they added an MSI SUPRIM Mousepad ! Did they remove it on the RTX 50s ?

(Note to self, never use the NVidia App. It's as useless as GFE was..)

I don't think W1zzard uses AfterBurner in reviews.
Agree the Nvidia App is s*** ! I never install it, the NVCP does the job perfectly fine!

Regarding MSI Afterburner, RTSS & HWiNFO64, I noticed a lot more stutters with newer versions. They're not as stable as they used to be even though I have a 9800X3D and 4090... :(

The 5080 definitely Overclocks way better than the 5090 ! The 5090 is definitely power limited (600W). I'm sure we could get +400MHz with 2x 16-pin connectors and a higher Max TDP !

Finally found some time to start playing with a quick and dirty overclock.
Some results from Speed Way, after my latest run.
I see a few 9800X3D's hanging out behind me :wtf:

Once the waterblock gets here, I wonder how much further it can be pushed; the fans are probably taking 15W from the power budget, and I am fully power limited trying to push 4K240

You'll maybe be able to get 3-5% more performance if lucky. All the 5090 are power limited :(

Too bad the new power plugs are so flimsy.
It would be quite easy to shunt the card when I put the new cooler on...

I would have to find my old calculations, but I believe I had my old 3070 drawing ~450W over a pair of 8-pin connectors; the 12V2x6 adapter can be fed with four 8-pin connectors.
With the right PSU, if the plug can take it, power limits should not be too much of an issue.
At 600W, it is already well at the top of the efficiency curve though.
Some very quick tests with the curve tuner show 450-500W with almost no loss of performance

I keep seeing people posting higher Mem OC than the locked +300 or something. Is that lock just on the FE cards , or was something changed in a driver release since the 5090 reviews?

Also, i have had luke warm interest in getting a 5080, until today when I saw prices for all of them at retailers in US have jumped $100+. Tarrifs and price gouging by retailers is absolutely tanking that interest :(

Yeah also dont know what that 375 lock was about. In afterburner you can go up to 2000 and it scales, broke 25k on Port Royal with that +2000 :D

Based on W1zzard's screenshots from the reviews, I think he actually means a 325 MHz lock (2075 - 1750 = 325), not 375 MHz.

325 MHz x 8 = 2600 MT/s

The '8' comes from the following calculation.
DDR = Clock Speed x 2 = 325 x 2 = Effective 650 MHz
4 Transfers per Clock = 4 Transfers x DDR (2) = 8 Transfers per Clock.

Afterburner is limited to +2000 MT/s on the memory.
2000 / 8 = 250 MHz

Using Afterburner @ +2000, I have 2000 MHz reported in GPU-Z, and 16000 MT/s in both Afterburner and in other software.

Stock I have 1750 MHz reported in GPU-Z, and 14000 MT/s in Afterburner.

So, a 325 MHz lock is the same as a 2600 MT/s lock... just differently indicated.

What I really want to know, is why Afterburner is limited to +2000.
Based on W1zzard's screenshots, it should be, at a minimum, +2600 as the limit...

The 8-pin connectors are rated for 150W but can actually sustain 300W, whereas the 12VHPWR/12V2x6 connectors are rated for 600W with a max power of ~630W. So everything over 600W is very dangerous and should definitely go to the PCIe port since it can deliver 75W.

The RTX 5080 FE is already overpriced for what it is... and AIB models are a rip off. What a great year for Gamers!

Yeah, if the card is wired to draw anything from the slot.
After that whole Polaris PCIe slot power draw thing, large draw from the slot is kinda frowned upon.

I recall quickly peeking at slot power draw a few days back; pretty sure it was staying under 10W.
That, at maximum load, in Cyberpunk @ 4K with Pathtracing.

If the designers were smart about it (or had the time to properly design the PCB), I would want them to use the slot power for fans and lighting, with the full capacity of the 12V2x6 going to the Core and Memory.

I also recall that the 12V2x6 has a 10% safety margin, which would put it's true limit at 660W.
As easy as shunt modding is, I am not really sure if 60W is worth the risk of taking the connector to the limit of its design tolerance :ohwell:

Maybe he used another software ? Also MSI Afterburner needs some updates lol
Yeah, I believe he said he was using the nVidia App to OC.
Regardless of which software he used, either GPU-Z is misreporting, or he actually meant 325 MHz.
Numbers are numbers: 2075 MHz - 1750 MHz = 325 MHz

Yeah that makes sense. And it also means I may try to keep that +2000 in afterburner instead of 1000 :D

Agree, but plenty of people, including myself, will try to OC their cards and see how far it can go :p

Honestly as long as you have 2TB/s of Bandwidth I think you're pretty good!

+2000 MT/s puts you at 2048 GB/s, so exactly 2 TB/s
That is crazy fast, when you think about it.

Definitely! The 4090 with 1008GB/s is already very fast!! I was able to OC mine to even 1200GB/s (25Gbps) but 2000GB/s is insane!
Even the Apple M4 Max has a Memory Bandwidth of 526GB/s and the M4 Ultra will probably have 1052GB/s, so the 5090 can get 2x that memory bandwidth with a good OC o_O

I feel like the 5090 is held down by power and even its cut down L2 Cache (96MB vs 128MB for a full GB202), the 4090 already had that issue with 72MB instead of 96MB for a full AD102. Nvidia do not want to give us the full L2 Cache

The 5080 definitely Overclocks way better than the 5090 ! The 5090 is definitely power limited (600W). I'm sure we could get +400MHz with 2x 16-pin connectors and a higher Max TDP !
Have you watched this?

Here is an Old Guide about editing the Afterburner limits.
Probably this method will still work?

At least until I have it under water, I think the standard limits will be fine for me though :)

Edit: fixed the link

Hey everybody, it’s my first post here (just found this site!), I was able to snag the Zotac amp extreme infinity wednesday afternoon, arriving this coming wednesday. I’ll pop it in and bench when it shows up. Looking forward to tweaking, seems like this is the right place to be for that! I saw a video on zotac’s software being terrible and that afterburner doesn’t support the zotac cards, have you all seen anything further on that (might have been jays2cents)?

Welcome to the Forums!

Afterburner should work with your card; it works with pretty much everything.

Quick guide to get you 90% there in afterburner:

After installing Afterburner, go into the settings and enable voltage control.
In the main UI, max out the Voltage and Power sliders.
Press Ctrl+F to open the Curve Tuner.
Upper right are some settings; have it scan the curve.
Once it is done, save the OC to a profile, and set it to automatically apply at startup!

From there, you can manually tweak the OC to your liking.
