Back to you

Read, learn.

Comprehend, listen, check, read, learn. It was not myself who found this change. As mentioned earlier - I checked it myself - before.

Will you say: I'm sorry or I'm wrong or will you ignore this post? I'm sure you will find something to nit pick instead.

Just for you I searched one of those pages.

Just for you: Is the 8550u processor in that list?

Or is that i7-8550u processor only in that list?
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/w...orted-intel-processors?source=recommendations

OneMoar already highlighted the important clarification you seem to be missing: existing, in-place installations of Windows 11 are not affected by this change. This restriction applies to system manufacturers only, and specifies that Microsoft will not provide licenses or software support for new devices with processors outside these lists. Previously-built and -sold systems are not affected, nor are (I believe) retail license installations.

From your link (emphasis mine):

If you're correct and the rest of us are wrong, Microsoft has done an extremely poor job of communicating their intent.

Well, It wouldn’t be the first time for MS to poorly communicate something, then clarify, then clarify the clarify, only later to walk it back. :D

version / edition?
Windows 11 is a meme at this point. Tell me one, just one reason to use Windows 11 24h2 besides auto-hdr.

Constant and many terrible updates that break stuff, sluggish OS in general, adding new features and not testing properly etc.

Just use Windows 10 22h2 until Oct. 2025 and maybe... maybe downgrade to Windows 11 after.

Does anyone else find the Snipping tool as irritating as I do?
I do prefer to use Windows + Shift + S for my usual screenshotting needs... or just F12 for games I got from Steam.

I don't like anything hijacking the Print Screen key tho. That key should, in my opinion, always work like it has done since Windows 95: Print Screen for a fullscreen shot, or Alt + Print Screen for a shot of the currently active window.

Ok folks, a weird problem just came up with 24H2. A friend of mine has been having the following issue and I just tested it for myself. See below screenshot;
ExplorerFileManagerProblemWin11-24H2.jpg

The menu bar seems to be missing. The buttons are still there and seem to work, they're just not visible. Anyone have any ideas what's causing this?
EDIT: This is as fresh an install as one can get, only drivers installed, nothing else.

I'm currently still on 22H2 for the moment but was thinking about 24H2. This would be a deal breaker for me.
(FYI, the blurring is me, I'm talking about the area highlighted in yellow)

Snipping tool is not my favorite thing. Greenshot has its limitations, but works well enough that I use it most of the time instead.

Wait, WHAT?
I have NEVER heard about these shortcuts, ever! Why is this shit not documented anywhere? Buried deep in the hell Microsoft's website is is not what I call documented btw.
There are so many shortcuts 999 out of 1000 people aren't aware of is not even ridiculous anymore.

I'm glad I found out and pissed off at the same time.

I love the snipping tool. It taking over the function of the print screen button, not so much. I would use them both in very different circumstances.

Tried 24H2 (fresh install) last week. Motu M2 audio interface reconnecting a few times randomly, Elgato 4k X not detected by software, mouse wireless receiver usb thingy disconnected 2 times in the ~2h i used 24h2, android phone and tablet not detected for storage transfer (devices showing with ! mark problem in device manager). Oh also flashing black screens in desktop every now and then.

Went back to 23H2, all's fine.

Tbh, I don't recall where I learned of it. If it was introduced first as an Insider Preview feature, then most likely the build notes since I'm used to reading those, but that'd been at least half a decade ago.

As for documentation, it's currently in Microsoft's website. Any search engine worth a damn should take you straight to it.

How hard is it to have a static fixed page somewhere inside the OS itself that just lists all the common shortcuts? I would have expected something like this all the way back in the Windows 3.0 days so the fact that Microsoft never did this boggles the mind.

I don't know. Ask Microsoft why Windows hasn't had a decent and comprehensive Help system after Windows XP.

Do you think Microsoft really cares about its customers and their user experience? They stopped caring long time ago.

Oh I know. It was a rhetorical question.

I don't know. Ask Microsoft why Windows hasn't had a decent and comprehensive Help system after Windows XP.
That I could understand excuses for it not existing, it takes effort to maintain and I never used the Help system anyway. The users that actually could have benefited from the Help system didn't know how to use or think of using it until someone more experienced told them about it. At that point, the more experienced user could just solve the new user's problem.

But a simpler Shortcuts page would have been useful for non-newbie users that otherwise don't know about the shortcuts.

Ok so an update on this, after much experimentation it seems that with 24H2, if you remove the Edge browser, it breaks Windows Explorer. To that I say: Really microsoft? Was this deliberate? Or was this incompetence? Either way, it's unacceptable. Fix it.
In the mean time, I'm going to go with 23H2 for my next install.

I remember removing Edge from Windows 10 some years ago completely broke Windows update. I can't even... yeah. Imbeciles.
Last year I think you were supposed to be able to uninstall Edge (and other stuff) due to EU Digital Markets Act, but I still don't have that option.

When you forcefully removed it, yes. When you didn't force, only icon and a few front end bits were removed. But is that really a good argument?
Today, a lot of stuff relies on some form of HTML5 engines for cross-platform or just simplified development. Say you dislike Chromium and remove everything to do with that from your machine? How many apps will break?

Windows update
That's not something I ever saw. I only so manual update for critical security problems. Windows update does not run on my systems.

But is that really a good argument?
It is not. When we users what something off our computers, it is our RIGHT to completely remove it. Doing so should never result in such dumbass problems.

How many apps will break?
The answer should be none. For programs to depend on a code library(like DotNet or VB, etc, etc) is one thing. For programs to depend on another problem that is removable at the user choice is completely another thing. One is acceptable. The later later is not.
