I was bringing that up because some time ago I went off the air and forgot my credentials on here, so I created a new account and had the 2 merged. But if a person gets a ban and comes back under a different account they can face a permaban.

No, that's not a ban. Ban the account sits. Like your unused one.

The deletion is complete and whole. Once it's applied, it is perma erased from the server. Gone. Forever. The content stays only. There's no longer anything to access to merge. Just words on a page now I'm afraid.

So we know for a fact, there where no infractions involved. It's all right there.

Wiz right clicks the name, selects administration for the account, clicks delete button. It may or may not ask if he's sure. This involves no point system. Simply click and gone.

Let's not forget, very unfortunately Deleted member 223428 (Super Firm Tofu) was one of the oldest, and one of the most active members of our community. Seeing that fact wasn't taken in consideration, questions a community contribution value and its integrity.

That delete my account part was said in (the obvious) distress. That goodbye sounds like mission accomplished exultation. That's how it feels to me.

You carry a gun, and the person you know for almost all of your life, approaches and calls you out for something, obviously being in distress.
You respond to him saying you don't like his tone.
And then he say cool, shoot me in the face then, and you pull out a gun and shoot the guy?

With great power comes a great responsibility. And someone failed that test today.

There were so many ways to resolve this situation, deleting the thread, banning the guy, giving him a million infriction points or w/e, but seriously considering his nonsense response to be a legit wish, and deleting his 20 years old account? Just wow.

its good to be compassionate, and empathetic, but this situation does not merit such seriousness or melancholy. There is still options to mend what was done (such as emailing W1zzard to make a new account), but we live in the present now.

I don't think anyone should be blaming Tofu, or W1zzard, they both equally weren't at the brightest when making their choices pretty clearly (and by admission in W1zzards case.) I've been in this situation as both parties before in other places. Its not fun, but it happens.

And we should leave it at that. Tofu can come back if he really wants too, but ultimately he got what he asked for, even if he will likely regret that choice. And if what everyone says about the guy is correct, he just might, and he'll make a new account. Then the situation is (mostly) resolved.

I have my own gripes with W1zzard; but not enough to warrant me making a personal judgement on him as a person. Only by the way he does his reviews; which at the end of the day is just opinion. And no, I'm not gonna bring those up as they aren't relevant to this discussion (I've already said what I wanted to say on that topic before a long while ago, and they don't matter enough to me to really warrant talking about them again.)

This is my second account here. I'm speaking also with experience at hand. At both ends. I've owned a forum and admin one now. Also have asked W1z to delete my account and it was gone. Just like that. I've been on OC tech forums since about 07.

A few things I have been witness to forums getting passwords salted &, forum backs getting destroyed. A long while back on xtreme systems forums way back when the original phenom 9000 series came out a poster mentioned how it was scaling beyond 100% by K.T.E. I was the one to point out that the L3 cache it own operating speed & clock speeds. About few months later the whole site crashed & killed all the drives & backup drives with all the forums hosted data the whole thread was completely gone.

If op felt that his account was at threat from hacker or salted password from spammers/hackers, then it would be in his best interest to just close all accounts even on other sites for the time being.

I've also witnessed someone get banned for posting, what eventually turned out to the truth on the same site. (This was about Bulldozers FX cpu lowering IPC)

It's hard to convey a tone in text.

I've made some criticism too, while the admis may feel like I was the only to feel this way. I've already seen recent posts in some other recent threads feeling the same way I do about the topic I had discussed.

Xtreme system forum did come up with a way to stop bots/spammers by implementing a $1 payment for user account sign up. However, Xtreme systems forum had not kept up with what people want & I believe the URL is no longer licensed by Fugger (Charles) I can no longer access it at all & "down for me or everyone" says it's been down now for at least one whole year now.

Many people believe that the internet is infinite or that things that get posted on the internet last forever. They don't & the internet is finite in itself has limits of how long something is supported or exist. It's why we now have the internet wayback machine & the internet archive.

He can just start a fresh account. It doesn't ban the IP address or anything. Just the email and account associated to it. Our forum is the same way.

Exactly. "Super Firm Tofu 2" is an available username, his punishment for lashing out at the site owner is that he loses the exact name and some stars underneath it on forum posts.
I don't bare any animosity towards Super Firm Tofu, but it certainly is a case of FA&FO.

I haven't paid anything to be here, I don't think my reputation is measured by the little stars under my name and neither is Super Firm Tofu's.

I'm not gonna make a statement on OP because I literally don't know the guy (nor that he even existed), but its amusing how much people are looking so deep into something which there probably isn't much to be looked at in the first place. We probably shouldn't be trying to psychoanalyze OP either or playing devils advocate when the situation in of itself was simple. I get being empathetic, I'm empathetic too, but not everything warrants your time. This is no different. (speaking to the people who are doing that, not you solaris)

You never know if something warrants your time until you find out. The thing is that finding out takes time, too. Now, we'll never know.

No more, and as per GDPR there is no way to recover the account or recover the posts. Deletion is permanent

I tend to believe that members who have been around for a long time, helped many others, and had a lot of insightful contributions are more valued than those who registered yesterday only to spam the latest Nvidia/AMD news thread. But I'm oldschool like that.

I can only say what I know from my own personal experience, and my own judgements. I appreciate the compassion and questions people are asking, they're deserved, but I just don't think its worth that time anymore. Whats done is, done.

Tofu can come back if he wants too with a new account. And I hope he does, but I said what I wanted to say. Glad everyones chill now atleast.

I'm not sure meat riding is a thing here. I'm relatively anonymous and there's nothing to gain by doing so.

I just see four pages of people trying to apportion equal blame on both parties, but IMO it's quite clear cut; There are almost 20000 people viewing the forums right now and expecting W1zzard to know all of them is unreasonable. If one of them gives him lip and starts a fight, I would expect repercussions first and foremost. IMO a ban would have made more sense but Tofu literally provoked deletion. He steered the fight that way and got exactly what he asked for.

When I screw up in life, I expect repercussions. It's all part of the learning, character-building process. A lot of what is wrong with the world today because too many people get away with stuff and don't suffer any consequences.

Whatever problems he has, I hope they get sorted out, I hope he is ok. I can relate to what happened today and only some people will understand why. I think the delete my account was a ptulant retort, that he may or may not have realised would happen. As he does not seem to have messaged W1z about it(that we know of) we can (maybe) assume he wanted hi account deleted for whatever reason.
