I said pretty much exactly that, but he openly solicits feedback, and thus I was oblidging. He knows as well as I do that feedback matters if you want to stay relevant.

You used the words feelings, you where implying the need for validation. At least, that's what it looked like from my seat. :)

I'm in no position to tell you what to do (and I too would've used a different tone) but I think personally you should reconsider that account deletion, if possible.

People need reminding that forums are a gift, not a right.

They take work, money, and effort to run. Please don't shit all over them or bite the hand that feeds.

I'm not sure meat riding is a thing here. I'm relatively anonymous and there's nothing to gain by doing so.

I just see four pages of people trying to apportion equal blame on both parties, but IMO it's quite clear cut; There are almost 20000 people viewing the forums right now and expecting W1zzard to know all of them is unreasonable. If one of them gives him lip and starts a fight, I would expect repercussions first and foremost. IMO a ban would have made more sense but Tofu literally provoked deletion. He steered the fight that way and got exactly what he asked for.

When I screw up in life, I expect repercussions. It's all part of the learning, character-building process. A lot of what is wrong with the world today because too many people get away with stuff and don't suffer any consequences.
I don't think anyone disagrees with that.

It's only that there is a difference between a new user lashing out, and someone who's been an active member for 20 years suddenly acting out of character for seemingly no reason. I wouldn't hesitate to write the first one down as a dick, but the second one deserves a question, imo. Not only because we're human and we all make mistakes from time to time, but also to try to keep a valued member.

Edit: Basically, it's not the judgement, but the lack of trial that's questioned here.

No, that's not a ban. Ban the account sits. Like your unused one.

The deletion is complete and whole. Once it's applied, it is perma erased from the server. Gone. Forever. The content stays only. There's no longer anything to access to merge. Just words on a page now I'm afraid.

So we know for a fact, there where no infractions involved. It's all right there.

Wiz right clicks the name, selects administration for the account, clicks delete button. It may or may not ask if he's sure. This involves no point system. Simply click and gone. :)
I never received a permaban

I dunno, it's a grey area with no right or wrong answer, I'm just trying to present the view from a different perspective. I've setup and run a couple of forums in the past that became too much work to maintain, so maybe I can appreciate the view from the other side of the fence and that's giving me a different opinion to many others here.

I mean, I have a higher posts-per-day count than W1zzard, and I don't know Tofu that well. I'm sure I've liked his posts and conversed with him here, but I don't know him. Hell, I don't even know if him or her is the correct pronoun. That's the level of disposable anonymity all of our forum accounts have.

I agree. At least asking "are you okay, mate?" would have been nice. We should take care of each other if we really call ourselves a community, imo.

Who knows, he could have been drunk, and maybe for a reason. My mind hasn't been in the best of places, and I've been way more irritable since I lost my mom 4 months ago, I'm not ashamed to admit.

My condolences to you, sir. I lost my dad in 2018 and...for awhile there I was so overcome with grief and pain that I actually thought about "ending it". I was incredibly close to my dad, attached at the hip as they say, and his loss left a gaping crater in my heart. The wound of loss will never fully heal, but all we can do is take it one day at a time and look to those we love for comfort and support.

Again, I don't disagree with you. :)

Basically, we don't really know anyone here. You don't know me, and I don't know you. We only see each other's text-based interactions and voiced opinions.

But that still doesn't mean that our user accounts are worthless, and should be discarded at the touch of a button. Someone with years full of worthwhile input elevates the value and general atmosphere of the forum. That's surely worth something, right? The forum exists for a reason. I'm not a believer of the notion that things in the virtual world don't exist. If they really didn't, I wouldn't be "wasting my time" typing up this post.

Thanks.

I get how you feel/felt. I was that close to my mom myself. A part of me truly died with her in November. I still have physical chest pain from time to time up to this day, I still can't believe what happened. But I try to keep busy and I keep plodding on for the ones I love. I would never think about "ending it" as long as they're here. :)

That's why it's called the "report" button, and not the "cry to mommy" button like some people tend to think.

I'll see myself out. :D
Yeah this topic kinda reminds me of DOTA 2 where people start yelling REPORTED in your face all game long and I'm like ... yeah, k? Relax, buddy. I'm just here finishing this game and you, regardless.

Shame to see SFT go like this. Hopefully we'll get a Somewhat Squishy Tofu in return some day. You know, slightly less firm in actions :)

That's why I don't play online. Too many angry teenagers shouting with caps lock left and right.

The mods, Sol especially, had a torrid time dealing with the member abusing the site. Two of the mods (I was one) got blocked because we had to delete so many images, it caused an automatic ban on our IPs. It's understandable that SFT got pissed off by the sheer volume of crap that was being posted, especially as it was of a particularly shitty nature.

However, and for whatever reason the OP requested it, they've had their account deletion approved, and the issues with the spam have been, or are constantly being addressed.

Thread locked.
