Only because the market leader is pushing it. So AMD needs to follow suit.

if AMD had better pricing, they could be market leader in all segments except the high end, that moves few cards. It's all their own damn fault, no one else's.
But to be fair game companies seem to love that crap, there were older techs pushed by amd/nvidia that the devs just didn't care and let them die

Personally i think it just made game devs lazier, no more optimisation, we can just use upscaling, fake frames so why bother, i blame the consoles for starting this trend when they had shit hardware and had to make magic tricks to run the games

RT was a thing way before nvidia was even a company, but yeah, what ever.
Well of course it was.

Well just wait for the Nintendo Switch 2, its going to most likely use frame gen to boost its performance so they don't have to go all out on more powerful hardware. With the PS5 and XBOX SX, Sony & Microsoft hold all the cards with what they want. AMD just delivers what they are told.

I would personally be looking at whether things are even possible or to a certain extent without the use of a.i.

I suppose we could say "isn't that the point of technology". I suppose we could also mention the "law of instrument"...

i bet no one is even considering that. Give devs and game companies a way to save money on the code monkeys and there is no turning back. DLSS, upscaling, RT, it all saves them time and money, so why would they even try. Watch some of the modern vintage gamers YT vids about the impossible ports and all the insane shit the old time devs did to run CP77 on a calculator back then

we all know optimising or bug fixing is a thing of the past, as soon as the game runs, ship it

It's a fair point. I think Sabine Hossenfelder mentioned the "precautionary principle" in one of her latest videos, as opposed to the whole "move fast and break stuff" mantra. Thing is how long would you, or people, be willing to wait for games to release, or how much would you be prepared to pay for hardware without it?! I'm intrigued to see how much a UDNA GPU would cost, or next gen console hardware.

Big fan of how Id mentioned building off stable code builds back in the day. I'm not sure what the coding landscape looks like now regarding efficiency and bugs? Perhaps a.i. can reduce things like technical debt?!

I find the concept of the skill gap and higher demands on information literacy an interesting factor

would rather see $449 on the 9070 and $549 on the 9070XT, everyone criticized Nvidia for undercutting them by $50.
Even if the card is 10-15% slower than a 5080, it will get bashed on not having proprietary Nvidia features.
Anyone can do any bashing. It won't make a difference when buyers see performance of cards and headline figures - it's both cheaper and faster than equivalent cards.

i would say if GTA VI is a finished and polished game by the time it comes out, i would prefer the waiting and even a 100usd price tag over some of the crap games that have been coming out.
Sure some companies don't have the time or money to do that, but you also don't need a map of the size of the world for every game, Starfield didn't need to be that big, etc... there is no focus on games anymore, they want to do everything and sell to everyone with a pulse.

Also money is money, but Ubisoft just burn 200M on that pirate thing, Sony burned 200M on Concord, etc... imagine that money and coders polishing other games.

I admire Cloud Imperium for what they've done regarding developing technology and tools for their game (feature creep if you want to call it that). Would that have been possible without crowd funding (or however else they revenue stream)?! Would Rockstar have that luxury if they weren't Rockstar? If a.i. can help then I'm sure a lot of people will bite your hand off, and already are, for better or worse. Perhaps it could have reduced that 200M, or maybe they wouldn't have even existed (I love the notion of classic TV series not existing if they were released in the present age)

numbers or x's in the name mean noting to me, i want to see real performance and price, that's what will make the cards stack against each other
i know i'm going to make a lot of people mad, but i hope the amd cards are amazing and cheap so nvidia drops the prices on their cards so i can buy one considerable cheaper

as long as any price difference for similar performing cards falls under 100eur i will never consider buying a amd card, if it's larger then i guess i'll have to consider the black screen simulator again, oh boy!
And why would Nvidia lower their prices as long as they have loyal customers thinking the same way as you do?

I would say 98% of people Nvidia driver problems are related to unstable system settings, incompatible hardware ie memory causing their problems.
Same with AMD. It doesn't make those problems less relevant... just less frequent.

they did it last time, go see historical prices for amd vs nvidia comparable gpu's, the lower price isn't that far apart. You don't want to give the competition any room to breath even if they are already on a respirator

i'm loyal to no one, but i also don't want a subpar product for about the same price

Exactly. Excellent point. That's what I say here, too.

Some people still don't realize a fact that DLSS/XeSS/FSR and other shit like FG does indeed spoil developers. The more they use such technologies, the less they optimize games.

We may come to a situation (give it few years) when devs (with smile on their face) will be heartly serving us 60fps even with all performance/framerate workarounds already in place (turned on). Because you know, 60fps is actually enough and you know we're hitting the silicon wall here, not enough performance on the table, there's no other way you know, we did our best to get the game to you asap and that is fuckin important you know. Meanwhile the price of this game is just $300 for ultimate microtransaction edition ... Look how many things we're doing for you, just buy it already you stupid gamer and stop asking.

Well, the 50-series so far is giving AMD lots of room to breathe if you ask me.

Besides, it's not about breathing room. Nvidia is after profits, not more market share. And as long as people buy their cards no matter what, they don't have to lower prices.

sure, whatever makes you sleep at night. I already said my piece. I'm sure it will all end with AMD making smart business decisions, good software and outselling nvidia. And if they don't it's just because everyone is an idiot.

A generic tome based on the persons experience with the card. I don't have one. From other things I've glanced at apparently the transformer DLSS4 model elevates the card to the 4K card you should be after. TPU themselves have opined on the quality of the technology ""Quality" looks like native, sometimes better." Plus factor things in like the size of the card (cooling) etc...
Looking at the DLSS 4 Transformer review, I don't see any difference from the CNN method. The review says it's fantastic, but I literally do not see anything in the screenshots.

I have my theories. Why If I had the money I'd look at a 5080 to last me a few good years and why I lend weight to the legitimacy of DLSS 4 (as well as the negatives). I hope AMD give me an opportunity to re-evaluate my position because I don't think I've ever owned an Nvidia GPU. Even the laptop I'm currently using has an APU in it.
I've owned lots of Nvidia and AMD GPUs (I tend to buy stuff just for fun), but I keep noticing that the massive differences people like talking about are usually nothing.

Don't twist my words. I never said that just because I see the 50-series as a flop, AMD will actually capitalise on the situation. We all know how bad their marketing is. I'm 99% sure that the 9070 XT is a fine card, but its success will be determined by its position within the market.

And don't start on AMD software (again). There is nothing wrong with it (not any more as there is with Nvidia software).

Edit: By the way, even the 5080 would have been a fine card for a good $200 lower.

50 series is a flop and it's sold out with long lines and raffles to buy one, and you tell me if you're not delusional

i already tried to tell you a million times, the performance gen on gen it's only relevant to the idiots that buy a card every gen or clueless influencers, for me on 3000 gen, or people on 2000 the problem is price, i couldn't give a rats arse about gen on gen. I'm sure this will go straight over your head just like the other times

I wonder how many people sold their 4080s to get a 5080. Talking about delusional...

Neither performance, nor price improved gen on gen. That's why I consider it a flop.

I'm coming from a C-50 APU so it's all gravy to me! I'm just wondering when that point will come when raster isn't enough (tipping point?!)
