With the impending release of new generation Nvidia, Intel and AMD cards, new AMD and Intel CPUs and APUs, is anyone thinking of upgrading their rigs? Maybe an upgrade to older generation parts which now might come down in price? This is not a question for new builds.

I was planning an upgrade anyway because my current GPU is showing some weakness in the newest games. The fact that we learned bugger all about anything at CES doesn't matter to me, I want real benchmarks before I pull the trigger anyway.

I would gladly share what I'm interested in, but angry fans would jump at my throat from left and right, and I've grown a tad tired of fending off tribal crap, to be honest.

How about you?

Also sticking with current card (4080). I usually upgrade every other generation, but unless the state of AAA gaming does an about-face I might just keep it for three gens.

The 5070 is literally as fast as the 4090, Nvidia is running charity for some reason and we would all be stupid not buying that card.
We desperately need a facepalm emoji on this forum.

Genuinely curious, I thought in other threads you were already decided to get the 9070XT anyway?

I'll be upgrading within the next 3 months almost certainly, either 9070XT, 5070Ti or higher 50 series - unless they're all so disappointing and/or priced crazy locally that I decide to wait.

It won't be, that's with Multi FG on 3x mode compared to 4090 FG 1x

While I will always keep an eye on what AI bollocks NVIDIA and AMD will throw at us, whatever the real benchmarks number are for the RTX50 and RX9070 will be, I don't think my plan of waiting for RTX7080 equivalent will be moved.

I'm more anxiously waitng for the reviews for new 27" 4K OLEDs as these are in my immediate plan (and I'm more tolerant to low-ish FPS).

No, because the 5080 looks to be barely faster then a 4080 super, and AMD has abandoned the high end. I was planning on getting a 8900xtx or whatever it was called, as the 7900xtx was a good step up and about halfway to what I wanted out of an upgrade, which is double the performance for the price I paid before.

So short of AMD having gaslit everyone int he greatest marketing stunt of all time, with the 9070 punching WAY over its weight, I'll be sticking with my 6800xt for another 2 years.

‍(had facepalm emoji and it turned into a male sign waht the hell lol) anyways it almost feels like everything coming out lately has been very incremental to prior generations.. I would like a better gpu but it would only be used for 1 game which is a hard sell. I'm honestly losing interest and reasons to upgrade hardware.

Yes, I'm mostly interested in the 9070 XT. The 5070 also caught my attention with its price, although I'm not very keen on buying a 12 GB card (I already have one). I'm not really keen on spending more than 500, either.

A lot of people would, I'm not sure if it would be a positive force in the forum or not tbh, as much as I'd certainly give them out fairly often. As it stands the laugh react seems to cover both legitimately funny posts, and just "laughing at people" for the facepalm takes.

Same in the sense that coming from a 10GB card, buying 12GB 4 years later, and gaming at 4k, isn't what I'm after. Price is admittedly less of a consideration as, without getting too far into it, I'm in quite a fortunate position at the moment.

I'm running a 6800 in my main pc on a 3440x1440 display.
Wife has a 1080 TI in her PC, she doesnt game much, though she has been using 4K since she's plugged in to a TV.
We also have a PC in the basement connected to my old 1080p projector. Its mostly just streaming criterion or netflix as HTPC, but also works as overflow for if a friend or brother or cousin wants to play games or i sometimes play games there that don't run well on a 21:9.

Depending on 9070/9070 XT actual raster price/performance, I likely probably grab at least one of them.
Otherwise I'll shop used market if/when something looks good to me. What I have is generally "good enough" for my needs, so, i have the luxury of time.

Personally, I only use the laughing reaction for funny posts. Laughing at people does nothing good, regardless of them deserving it or not.

Yeah, 12 GB is not good for 4K. I would probably get away with it at 1440 UW (I'm not sitting on the "you need 654675 GB in 2025" bandwagon), but I'm planning to sit out a few generations after this one, so I wouldn't mind a bit more assurance for future games. I've been spending way too much on PC parts in recent years, gotta slow down a bit and rethink my priorities.

I'm a PC overclocking enthusiast junky benchmark type dude.

So I often down-grade as much as up-grade in a sense. Like, to get an itch to fire up old school, break out the old Rampage II extreme, which btw, is sealed for Dice and LN2!!

But if I had like a 6600K type system, I think 2025 would be a good year for upgrades. Yeah it works, turns on, but my S22 Ultra in my pocket is twice as fast..... then time to upgrade. (No offence to those with 6600K systems)

Now my 4070 Super, in my opinion, for 600$ when I bought, should last me 5 more years in theory. Same for the cpu. So 5 years is the longest I'll go without new PC hardware. Until I die. :)

I certainly wouldn't count on 12GB for 4k and 4 years that's for sure. 16GB should fairly comfortably see two more gens and PS7 etc which I'd plan on bringing about the next required jump in capacity.

Remains to be seen if Nvidia have actually achieved anything meaningful / widespread with their memory footprint reduction tech.

I don't overclock, but I get your itch. :) I go through waves of upgrading and downgrading myself simply because I'm curious of hardware. I have just as much stuff on my shelf as in my systems. This is why I've got to slow down in the coming years. It's a nice hobby, but an expensive one, unfortunately.

It can be expensive for sure. I sold many GPUs, all AMD and ATI only for 700$ lot. Which I told this person to value the gear off ebay and cut the price in half. That is about the guesstimate. 4 rather large boxes. Like 14x20x12 if not bigger. It was a lot a lot. I needed space, he wanted AMD and ATI cards. Worked out really good! I needed space lol.

I've sold off most of all my old gear now. Trying to keep less. I buy it and try to move it quickly. This also stops me from repeatedly abusing the stuff too. My 14700K has been under DryIce several times now. Poor thing. But it's faster than everyone else's lol. Except the guy with LN2 maybe. Haha.

My and the youngest, we've been into small engines and car stuff. At least we have more than 1 hobby. RC cars? At least 10 of these things. Now THAT hobby is expensive lol.

Probably in the same boat especially if raw performance isn't very impressive. MFFG doesn't get me even a little hard....
Only buy if comes with taint tickler and makes a sandwich when done. This is bad comment.

I mean if it came with a couple free games and some awesome swag, perhaps the cards would look better.

Wonder if they (5000gpu) overclock well. This has been on my mind about them, but see no talk about it yet.

Crucial announced 64GB UDIMMs, and I was already in need for a memory upgrade, so I'll take the change for my next trip to the US to grab 4x of those and a 9950x to bring back home. Hopefully those sticks will be already available for sale by the time I'm there, otherwise I'm SOL.

The 5090 looks nice, but a pair of those is way too much money that won't give me enough returns to justify the purchase.
Got tempted for one of those Nvidia DIGITS, until I found out it's going for $3k+, so once again not enough ROI IMO.
Strix Halo sounds interesting, I might grab a mini-PC with one down the line if the price is not that bad, ~$1k would make sense for me.

We desperately need a facepalm emoji on this forum.
I'm glad i didn't accept that bet you proposed in the other thread lol
