Happy I took the bite on the 4080 super, 5000 series seems 'meh' as I gambled it would be, the rumoured VRAM boost not really surfaced and most of any gains are down to better AI (multi frame gen).

Will still get the better DLSS/DLAA so am happy.

For what its worth my prediction is we going to see another delayed pricing drop, I dont think these will sell that well compared to older gens. So I wouldnt buy now and hold off if your plan is to get a 5000 series card.

Yes I am feeling the same. The 4090 is already more than I need in most cases. Dunno how long that will last though, as for example ff16 required using dlss to get it working with a flat frametime graph at 4k. I would have used dlss anyway, but this is the first time I had to.

Clearly there are some demanding games coming out, and I'm sure that trend will continue, at what rate I do not know. But I don't want to upgrade yet. Still lots of options to get performance if I need it.... I think I could use this 4090 for quite a while still if I really tried. Especially when I only need 60 fps.. I mean I could sell my 4090 but I don't want to gamble on not being able to get a 5090 and also I don't want to be the guy who needs to always be buying new components. My 3570k and 1070 lasted me 7 years and still fetched a decent price for it after all that time.

I want to be able to do that again. I guess we'll see if its possible. Everything is working now so, I'm hoping that continues. Of course there's two major potential derailers, one is another 14700k failure, though thats covered for about another 4 years. The other is the 12vhpwr melting. I normally don't need anywhere near 450w to get performance I need but if games become more and more demanding that may change, idk. I don't even have the upgraded version ( the 12V-2x6 I mean) plus my case forces me to bend it in a way not optimal. Anyway I figure as long as I can stay far away from 600w, I should be okay, I hope.

Gaming is a 'need' to some to vent off from real life. Nowadays I just open up games that I very familiar with and just having a stroll, driving or flying in GTA San Andreas while listening to talk show in game radio, take Roach on horse ride along the island of Skellige in Witcher 3 while listening to game OST just to relax after work.

You're a special kind of gamer. I can't sleep without a shot at some fast paced competitive shooter... even if its a quick super light-weight 15 min browser-based 60fps showdown. I gotto get back to some of those more casual titles without the incumbering FTW brain frying.

Edit: This is what an "enthusiast" should be defined by, imo. Someone who's willing to put the effort in learning and making things work. Not someone who just throws money at problems that don't even exist.

"Not someone who just throws money at problems that don't even exist"

well-said! There's a number of factors greasing those wheels: the future-proof myth, FOMO, clever marketing gimmickry, persona, etc. Some of us are well-informed and have a clear understanding of what we want from the hardware we subscribe to, even if it means spending significantly more than the average consumer. The end goal might not be an essential one but if the experience is a positive one, i'm all for it.
