I don't have direct contact with the fan and the cooler, since I'm a quiet nut and I try to deal with any vibrations. Instead I have a bit of rubber piece between.

I should get a digital camare really, but that might take a couple of weeks. Pictures say more than words really.

I wasn't referring to the fan, I'm talking about the actual heatsink. I can move the heatsink ever so slightly even though the screws are fully tightened (not over tightened).

How long do you usually run FurMark for to prove stability? I think using a combination of FurMark and ATI Tool is a great first test for stability; however, I am beginning to wonder if FurMark may be overkill for an extended stability test (>15 minutes). The gxf card temps are about 20C greater running Furmark than any other application I normally run???

My 4850 passes Futuremark Vantage and 06 at 700/1100 with flying colors but while playing TF2 for a few hours tonight I got another freeze/driver error. It didn't recover once (had to hit the case reset button) but did recover when it happened a second time a bit later :banghead:

edit - I just ran the CCC Overdrive Autotuner and it set my spepeds to 690/1173 (!!!). 1173 seems way too high

I was googling around for some overclocking results because I just got my HIS 4850 /w reference cooler. Currently i'm at 690/1188 and i'm pretty sure if I wasn't using the stock cooling i'd be able to get farther.

I was wondering if you had any benchmarking results you could show us :]

Nice setup on those fans!

That is my max clocks. My card is modded with rbe to 1.158v high 3d and has the overdrive sig from an asus 4850TOP injected into it.The maximums on my overdrive are now 800 for core and 130 for mem.

Here is my cooling on my card.

that was all the overclock allowed in overdrive, this is on air with the stock cooler, side open and my rad fans blowing the air in across the card. I have some swiftech copper RAM and VRM sinks and a swiftech liquid sink to put on. As soon as I get the rest of my system put together.

70C was the highest I saw it go. If you watch the GPU useage while the auto clock utility is working the useage goes up to 120%, must be working overtime. :D

The higher clocks were a little unstable under game play, so I am currently running 800Mhz GPU and 1125Mhz Mem. Here are some old benchmark results at a lower mem speed:

Does anyone here have the ICEQ4 4850 Turbo?

I'm trying to OC mine and I'm getting nowhere. Stock clocks are 650/1000 and I can get 665/1025 stable and thats about it. It's pretty dissapointing since the card will idle @ 35-39C with 70% fan speed. and load less than 55c. I know I have more head room but I'm just not getting it.

When everyone say they flash the BIOS to give 1.2v it makes sense but I read a thread about the new RBE 115 saying that you can only force the card to give one of the voltage options in the BIOS with 1.158v being the highest.

I've already flashed the cards to run much lower clocks for 2D but I guess I'll try to entering 1.3v (even though I didn't pencil mod) to see if I do actually get more voltage to the core.

Iam having issues going past 1.158V with my 4850 also, if I write manually say 1.2v to all voltage fields I get black screen when Windows loads up. There is another thread about this, the OP says this issue has arised with cat 8.10 drivers :wtf:

edit:

Ok reread the post, and your saying that latest version of RBE limit the voltage to 1.158V. That would explain why my forcing 1.2V with RBE 1.17 does not work

The thread I was talking about: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=74821

One thing I figured out from reading another thread.... and I know it sounds completely strange.

I had to remove the overclock from my system RAM to get my 4850s to start working properly.
Randomly my cards would get black screens when I launched games or tried to OC them. Eventually it was happening when the cards were at stock but it never happened when loading windows so I dont think it's exactly the same problem as yours. Now that my RAM is @ stock speeds I can OC my cards to 685/1100 (still looking for max stable).

RBE doest lock what voltages are available it simply shows you what voltages the card can deliver itself... and what options the BIOS is actually able to request. I set my cards to use 1.158 in high 3D mode and it's all working now. I also lowered the 2D clock speeds to 300Mhz to save power.

I have the same issue as you. @ 720Mhz running FurMark it would just go black screen. Upon reboot, it would just act like nothing happened. None of the lights were on either (the 2 LEDs on the card)
So idk... What RAM you got? (modules).

RAM on the card? idk I can tell you what cards I have but I haven't removed the heat sync to check the modules and I dont plan on it. I did find that once I made my system RAM more stable (even though it was completely stable with my other card) I could OC the cards better. I maxed out CCC (700/1200) and the card was stable enough to bench and play COD5. I need to unlock CCC to let me clock higher than 700 though.

I think the modules on my 4850 ICEQ4 Turbo would be the same as the modules on the TurboX edition but I'm not sure. I couldnt find a review of the Turbo model.

OverclockesOnline review said:
The memory comes clocked at 2200MHz compared to the stock 1866MHz, a gain of over 15%. This is accomplished by using week 28 Samsung K4J52324QH-HJ08 modules Googling up the product name, we see that these chips are rated for 1200MHz (2400MHz DDR) (0.8 ns).

TechPowerup Review said:
The GDDR3 memory chips are made by Samsung and carry the model number K4J52324QH-HJ08. With 0.8 ns latency they should be good for at least 1250 MHz.

Got mine up to 725/1053 with stock cooling. (stable)
i have the gigabye card with the zelman cooling.
Idled at about 47C.

I tried an aftermarket cooler with it (old coolermaster Viva) and it increased , my temperatures 7C!! so i put the stock hsf back on (now idles 47/48C

Not finished tweaking yet, i'll try the pencil trick when i have time. but gigabyes software allows it to go to 1.24v already and increases the gdram +0.09v.

I just put some old coolermaster ramsinks on, i'll se if that helps any although i don;t have much faith in the thermal pads (doublesided-stickytape) that came with the sinks
