DX12 to Vulkan MOD for older GPUs on Windows

Friend! We did it! I disabled the Nvidia overlay and the game worked for me!



Can you recommend a program to take screenshots of my FPS in the game (because I disabled the overlay)?
You can use FrameView from Nvidia.

x32 work for me, but games looks broken on Vega GPUs, same like on DX12, Vulkan not fix it.
My Windows is x64.
Any FPS difference? / ill link your post with the zip file in the main post.
Did you use the x86 files from vkd3d-proton-2.10.tar too? Can you try different versions?

Sorry, I made a mistake. x32 files were simply ignored and dx 12 was launched.
I experimented with different dll files and thought they all worked. But now, to check the FPS, I turned on the rivatuner and saw that dx12 was indicated there.

Ah , ok, you can try using older versions of the dlls ( you can find links in the original post) i cant tell if its an GPU problem or some setting you have to change in your system or it just doesnt work on VEGA , ill try to find out.

Found on reddit: "I have a Vega 56. It stutters a lot until the shaders are mostly cached (see DXVK_HUD), then it's pretty playable in most games. "

@Worm35hp - Maybe you have to wait for the shaders to get cached??

I've tried many different ones, but either the game crashes or the endless loading after starting a new game.

Yeah i think Vega is just too old for this game , you can try it on Linux and see if it works but you will prob have a bad experience anyway and its not worth the time, there are some env vars you can change in Linux but i dont know if its possible or how to use them in Windows.
You can also try some other DX12 Game and see if it works and if it does i guess there is only a problem with AW2.
Do you have enough disk space in the Game directory and free RAM?

EDIT: Can you upload your AlanWake2_dxgi.log? Maybe we can find something there.

Yep, game work on DX12.

Yea, my card Asus dual gtx 1070 OC
Can you try using higher texture resolution setting (only) ? It might just provide same performance with better visuals.

1070 here, 1080p native low, jumping from DX12 with gaved me 16-20fps (begin of game forest FBI) to like 25-28 with one or two times seeing 30fps
its not Ideal, but its visible improvments, and my gues is shaders compilation might improve it fps more as some here with 1070 reported above 30fps

There is a file in the game directory vkd3d-proton.cache , not sure how much impact it has but you can try. You can also try to delete the cache from AppData\Local\Remedy\AlanWake2.

Anyone make it works in AMD GPU? My RX 5600 XT doesn't work when i put vulkan files.
It seems that is broken with AMD because of the Vulkan drivers , you can try using a different driver.
Share the AlanWake2_dxgi.log (inside the game folder) maybe we can find something there.
I posted the AlanWake2_dxgi.log on the devs github maybe they will come with an solution.
You can also try to delete the cache from AppData\Local\Remedy\AlanWake2 and the vkd3d-proton.cache from the game folder.

Nothing much i can do about it , i reported to the devs of this project, only thing you can try is to delete the cache and install an older AMD driver, worth a shot. (or maybe somebody else can figure out a trick to make it work on AMD) - it seems to work on Linux but not on Windows.

Same thing here on RX6800 - black screen then crash. But something's strange, DXVK used to work in many DX11 and DX12 games and now it works in NONE. I'll revert to driver 23.9.3 just to see if it's caused by AMD drivers.
