New Leak Reveals NVIDIA RTX 5080 Is Slower Than RTX 4090

Surprised Meme GIF

So the 5080 really is just a 4080 Super Duper with Updated Framegen with no price increase.

Nvidia swears they can't add more raster because it's too hard, but not adding any raster improvement per watt is pretty silly because it lays bare the whole con. They're updating the AI hardware, not the graphics engine, and they're desperate to convince everyone that they had to do it. They couldn't be expected to improve raster meaningfully. It was just impossible.

They could. They just didn't and they didn't because they're an AI company now and not a graphics company.
They don't need to improve the core graphical performance much, because they have no competition. It's that simple. Enthusiast gamers will buy the insanely priced cards anyway, so why should they bother. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if amd didn't buy ati. Maybe things would have been different

lol your math aint mathin because a 4090 is 20% faster than a 4080 in overall relative performance as per TPU
Only because there's a lot of CPU bottlenecked games.

When your ONLY bottleneck is the GPU the picture becomes clear that 4080 is at least 25% behind (meaning you need to power it up by 33+ % to compensate for it) and it's not gonna happen to 5080. This GPU will fill the gap between 4080 and 4090, nothing more than that.

The lack of competent Radeon competition is strong in these Blackwell prices/performance improvements.

until/unless AMD competes in the high end, this is what to expect. Higher prices, lesser performance uplifts (vs the predecessor).
The lack of competition could be compensated for by consumers simply saying "Enough", and not buying from Nvidia until the prices are lowered.

lol trying to find outliers nah bro we will talk Monday lol. You said a 4090 is at least 10% faster overall -“full stop” lol . I say 0%. I’ve been praying to the TPU gods. We shall see soon

lol trying to find outliers
Yeah, exactly. Games where 5080 = 4090 will be nothing more than outliers.

The 4090 has 16k cores. The 5080 has 10k. They're made on the same node, so clock speeds should be similar. So in what strange parallel universe is this a surprise?
The internet universe... we've seen the posts.

CPU bottlenecked games mainly.

-------------------------------------------------

General note, WTF would anybody think the 5080 is much better than the 4080S? Hardly a spec change at all. Same card with MFG added mainly.

I can find you the posts, placed by people who you would really think know what they're looking at, prior to the release.

Its just because people were used to a different paradigm, I guess, but yeah, I was equally flabbergasted. I've even had a dude tell me I was an idiot because 'obviously a new product is going to be better, even on the same node'. Lmao. The collective blindness because marketing said a thing, is staggering. The level of naive and gullible of unforeseen heights. These are our 'critical thinkers' these days...

2025: educating yourself is easier than ever.
People: still adamant 5080 can beat 4090 in more than zero gaming scenarios.

Yea, the Nvidia hopium is strong with this release. LOL I've been seeing it with the 5090 too. People thinking there will be huge gains with higher power limits and better cooling compared to the 4090. Isn't going to happen.

What universe is that? Is it the one where people don't know what logical thinking is anymore?

TPU, among other places...

My last graphics chip was a HD 6950 for $300 brand new. Great bang for buck and was near top of the line for both AMD and Nvidia. Lasted me 11 years and still works. I don't expect people to go that long on a graphics card, but when I see people go from a 3080 to a 4080, or a 3090 to a 4090 to a 5090, I can't help but laugh. What a waste.
I remember looking at the 6950, it was a great option for that generation. I ended up with a Radeon 7870 for $180, great price, but I should have moved up to the 7950 for $50 more (that was a great long-lived card).

We have had the Internet since the 90s, a massive repository of human knowledge and information. Has anyone increased their literacy since then as many predicted in the 90s? I would argue that people read less than ever, controlling for wealth and education levels.

People don't change their fundamental nature, and to believe otherwise is naive and foolish. How many prophets of peace engineered by better education and literacy and norms have been proven false?

Or as Fallout states, "War, War never changes."

RTX 5080 is available at a retailer near you and will only cost you both kidneys Only. no financing is necessary :)

I'm stunned by this revelation, who knew rtx 4090 (16384 cores) is faster than rtx 5080 (10752 cores).

A Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 can calculate over 10 billion triangles per second. For 4k displays, that is more than sufficient for a maximum 4k resolution at 120Hz. Increased rasterization isn't needed.

Basically you pay for some percentage actual gaming GPU on the silicon die and some percentage on the silicon die that they didn't know what to do with it and made up some fake frames with tensor cores.

I am so regretful that I sold my 4090 for $1400 two months ago to buy the 5000 series, I don't know what to buy now. I may go with AMD this time to protest Nvidia.
how you sold 4090 for $1400 if their price on ebay was $1800+ the whole 2024

Hahaha, rolling at the posts blaming retail consumers for increases, completely oblivious to the fact that the real suckers right now are corporate clients burning their money in the AI oven by paying Jensen 30k+ a pop for almost the same die size as 5090. And if they want that packaged together with networking, Mediatek/ARM CPUs and built for them at the site the gouge factor multiplies even further. It's a miracle anyone is willing to sell GPUs to gamers at all, if you'd ask me, just goes to show that nobody is 100% confident the boom will last forever, so gotta keep other options open.

I'm getting ready to upgrade my 12-year-old Nvidia GeForce GTX 690 to a Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080. I'm not going to try to sell my GTX 690 - I'll send it to an electronics recycler. I don't anticipate selling my RTX 5080 to upgrade to a RTX 6080. None of this generates any emotional reaction in regard to Nvidia.
