Back in the day, it was required usage for any DIY'er for several reasons (voltages, bus settings, etc)....People today have it so easy with one-touch and software everything. Just like any form of automation (like buttons) rather than someone physically doing something (in this case making a connection), they are less reliable. I'm not saying this is absolutely for certain the issue, but it has been the case for myself, personally, before.

Ok, after reading this whole thread, I see one thing you haven't mentioned and which no one has asked.

Di you uninstall and re-install the Nvidia drivers when you went from your Kepler to the Maxwell GPU? This is a crucial step when changing GPU families.

No. Sometimes you'll be ok, but many times no. And even though the driver has all cards and families in it, when you install them, it installs the particular driver for your card and its family.

So, for instance, if you had replaced it with another Kepler, you definately could have done things the way you did it.

Hmm. That sucks!

If you tried booting (and held the clear CMOS button in for 7 seconds, as is their procedure apparently) while the system was on and didn't work...you can probably rule that out.

Like others said, it's probably time to tear it down and start over. Barring being willing to do that, take it to a shop. I doubt it's a driver issue...that should not interfere with post.

I don't know if I mentioned that the computer is not posting ie no beep sound

I guess, amongst other things, he could have unplugged that pesky SPEAKER wire from the mess of case connector (led etc) pins! (That's everyone's favorite process of connecting a motherboard, no doubt...even if many have those helpful little pass-through pieces now).

Tried that if I hold cmos button in and press power nothing happens

Boot, (I assume it turns on but doesn't post), hold the clear cmos button for 10 seconds. I've never used such a board, but that's the impression I get on how it's supposed to work. If you've said you've already tried the button, I assume you've done that already...or otherwise you haven't cleared it at all. :toast:

Hey Paul I would like you to answer the following question as honestly as humanly possible so that we can give you the best advice. I have been monitoring your past few threads and you seem to be catching some heat from the community. As a result your answers seem a little curt. I would like to rectify this for you so you get an honest jury and so that we can better help you. Please take note I mean no offence I just want to clear some things up.

Looking at your posts has hinted at a few things. Please answer the follinwg question again honestly and without fear.

On a scale of 1-10 how competent are you at computer repair?

Also on a scale of 1-10 how much PC knowledge do you think you have?

10 being the highest.

you never answered that question

I feel that your PC knowledge and experience is not up to sorting this out even with our HELP
Before you ruin the parts you have and Cost you a fortune in Replacment parts and labour ( and possibly blame us )TAKE IT IN to a SHOP for a diagnostic QUOTE

At some point, I feel, the English probably know the English best. You should probably listen to him.

Peace and love, brother...I'm out. I'm sure you'll get it sorted.

The only thing I would still try is disconnect every cable from motherboard 1 by 1 and reconnect them. (Disconnect one and plug it right back in) and to the same on the PSU if it's modular.

Do I know this right?
First you had first gen a titan 6GB
then you had a 780 that you replaced with the 980?

Did you PC work fine when you replaced the titan with the 780?

Paul, I hadn't noticed you're on an older X58 MB. If that's the case, I would try updating to the latest BIOS version if you aren't already (haven't read all the posts, so don't know if that was mentioned).

When the 900 series GPUs first debuted, there were some people on older MBs that had to BIOS update them for full compatibility. Without it they were getting black screen like you.

And as 54th Void said, no need to react to the Pci Ex cable check suggestion. I wasn't implying you don't KNOW to plug them in, which is why I said did you remember to plug them in.

It's rather common that even knowledgeable people make minor errors forgetting things when eager to test out a new part, especially if there's been frustrations and delays such as you experienced with the Titan.

Dude, I'm 57, a lot of times I forget where I put something 5 minutes ago anymore if I've got a lot of things on my mind or am stressed over something. It's just part of life man.

Not sure what these lights are

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard
http://www.manualslib.com/manual/452712/Gigabyte-Ga-X58a-Ud3r.html?page=22#manual

Sorry I'm late to the party, but in that picture of your PC you've got no RAM installed. Those lights will be MEM-OK lights indicating the slots are empty.

Nevermind, really late to the party.

Take it to your local PC repair shop, we can't help you by yelling random solutions without being there in person. Odds are your motherboard doesn't support the BIOS type of the GPU or something.

Take it to a shop.

EDIT: Also, for the love of god, please stop double posting :D
