NVCleanstall - Clean installer for NVIDIA drivers (Alpha)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Tested on 430.97, extracted the driver, pointed NVcleanstall to setup and ran min driver (core, PhysX and HD audio).
All installed fine and runs well.
No issue came up.
You can point it directly to the downloaded installer btw, it will unpack it on its own

right, I have a habit of unpacking driver to see if anything changed, folder wise.

PS: For kicks, I ran 435.27 which was released to insiders through WU, so there were no folders (someone just zipped them up) and that didn't work out with NVcleansinstall (older version).

431.18, I let NVcleanstall do the unpacking this time, min install, all went well.
I did have issues with start menu to reboot but can't say it has anything to do with the program. I had this last time too.

After I've changed from AMD to nvidia I'm shocked the new driver installer have grown to over 500+MB in size, I only needed the driver, PhysX and nothing else. Also noticed opening the control panel is quicker than the last time I'm using nvidia driver. Thank you for this program W1zzard :toast:

Good day, altogether,
this is - as you can see - my first post in this forum,
and first I wanted to say thank you for working on and providing cool tools like this Clean installer!
It's awesome to see that spirit from the early days of Internet still being alive!

Secondly you need to know that I'm rather a tech-noob, really, so please expect to have some fun with my silly questions!

However, I'm currently struggling with getting my nVidia card (GeForce GTX 1080 - driver build 431.18 ) to run again with my WIN 10 (64bit, latest build: 1903).
I suspect the issues I have are coming from a Driver-OS-Software (rendering software) combination that isn't going well together, and my search for tools that help getting a clean driver installation finally lead me to here.

So, I was trying out "NVcleaninstall 0.3.0".
It opens and shows my card correctly, but then it does this like forever (20 minutes now), without offering any option to choose:

Question:
Is the tool checking for drivers online, or is it only showing drivers that I have stored somewhere on my drives?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This tool allows you to chose whether to check online (first two options I believe, the first one download the latest version while the second one you can download which version you desire) and the third options allowing you to select the driver installer you already downloaded. I select the third options, easier and faster.

That was what I was expecting.
However, the tool so far doesn't offer any option at all (running for more than 30 minutes now, still showing the same as in the .gif in my first post).
How long does it usually need to check for drivers online?

Do you see the "next" button enabled at the bottom of the window, with the first option selected?

Yes, the "next" button is enabled.
Clicking on it shows no effect, though.

Oh of course ... damn .. I completely forgot .. our server with the driver packages has been unreachable for a few days due to some networking issue.

Oh, that's quite a relief to know!
I already thought my computer was messed up completely !

Download the 430.86 driver from here: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-geforce-graphics-drivers/
Select the third option and give it the downloaded file

Thank you!
I'm going to try this and will let you know how it works.
May take a while, though, as downloads are really slow today.

And thanks a lot for your works anyway!

Update:

Download the 430.86 driver from here: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-geforce-graphics-drivers/
Select the third option and give it the downloaded file

Tried it now and it worked perfectly fine! :)

Not sure whether that's normal, but the installation routine run twice.
First when I used your tool to install the driver, and after the computer restarted the installation run again and made the computer restarting again.

After that, the driver is installed and shows correctly in your tool and others (like techpoweUp GPU).

Thanks a lot again for your help!

Now, I hope that driver stops my computer from crashing! :)

Today I installed 431.36, Nvcleanstall had a progress bar scrolling, seeking and couldn't use manual dl links.
I DL driver from NV site and installed fine.

I see now you have a new driver but listed version wrong on your site (431.68), it should be 431.36.

Fixed the typo in the version, thanks.

The issue with nvcleanstall is that its update server is hosted at an ISP that went out of business, taking our server with him. I was too busy with AMD and NVIDIA reviews to look into this, and fix. Will do so later this week

I've fixed the server for the download files. Please test and report back if everything is working

Don't have a driver to install but progress bar stops after a second and manual picking driver from drop-down list works.
So seems good w/o actually updating.

Not working here, is there an update available?

Check first post, we're up to 0.3.0 now. I just haven't updated the screenshot

Build in first post updated to 0.4.0:

Improve download speeds significantly
Improved package descriptions
When "Next" is clicked and "best driver" isn't known yet, wait a bit and continue automatically
Minor UI tweaks
Bugfixes

431.60 is now available for install

All worked fine, install wise. (431.60) This time I let NVcleanstall do everything, DL from your server, and installing the minimal driver.
Used 0.4 version.

awesome, downloads speed should be pretty good with 0.4. any ideas for future improvement?

What are the plans for AMD or Intel support (if any)?

Regular driver install works great with the latest version, but with DCH driver it gets stuck when unpacking the driver files, with a full progress bar.

Tried it with both the NVIDIA .exe and an unpacked folder.

No plans at this time

Thanks! Will try to reproduce

Updated build in first post, to 0.5.0

- Fixed "unpack" will hang when installing from downloaded installer (3rd option). This bug was introduced in 0.4.0

It was fast DL, it did show speed (I forgot to write it down), the only thing after it DL the driver module I thought it stalled when it did unpacking/decompression) then it was fine.
I like that it cleans up after itself when you close the window.
