Very interesting the 4080 Super has 88% of the 5080's performance at 4k, but 90% at 4k ray tracing. I would have expected the ray tracing performance to have a bigger gap than the regular performance, due to improved RT cores and more memory bandwidth from GDDR7.

You know, what I find the most insulting with this new generation of FE cards is the """sustainable"" box.

You're dropping 1000€+ on a GPU and yet it looks like it was found in a trash bin
Gotta distract you from the GWs of energy their chips are consuming in AI datacenters.

the 4080 was 500$ more expensive than the 3080
Has 3080 ever been sold for its MSRP if we don't count these three and a half lucky bastards who bought them directly from NVIDIA before shit hit the fan?
Ampere MSRPs are hereby irrelevant.

This "joke" of a MSRP, however, had been ENABLED. It's not only NVIDIA are complete greedsters, it's also ZERO GPUs to contest it. 7900 XTX for $1000 did and still does provide less value.

So my calculation of getting 45% better value than 2 years ago is accurate. You can argue with NVIDIA's pricing policy all you please but you can't argue with emotionless numbers.

So it's an $800 card going to be sold at $1200. 5090 is OK I mean specs and performs well but the price is too high. The 5080 just underperforms for the price. It isn't even competing with the 4090 for crying out loud.

That's because Nvidia are expecting DLSS to be the differentiator and hoping buyers fall for it. It's the software doing the donkey work, not the cores.

VRAM speed is irrelevant, RT makes GPUs of this level choke way before that becomes an issue. RT cores in RTX 5000 series are ZERO % improved compared to Ada. Okay, maybe single digit %.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with Blackwell having more cpu overhead it can lose to the 4080s when cpu limited and RT tends to be heavier on the cpu even when gpu limited.

Meh. Im glad i ditten wait to upgrade. Back in november 2022 i upgraded from a rtx 3080 10 gb to rtx 4090 and seeing what 5000 series has to offer. It had not been worth waiting.

I keep my 4090 and pass on 5000 series. For i still have the second fastest gpu. Until amd release rdna 4 and maybe can smoke 4090. Time will tell. Else i will have a good gpu a couple of years more.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
So - 40% better performance / $ gen on gen. That's pretty good. I remember vividly a couple of days ago people saying that "this is impossible blabla".
If you compare against the 4080 launch edition that didn't sell well at $1200, sure.

The card to compare against is the 4080S at the same $1000 price point and a much closer core count.

nGreedia shifted the SKU's up with the RTX4000 and now, they have done the same with the RTX5000. The RTX5070 is going to be such a let down to for so many, they will see the xx70, but it it won't be one.

It seems like RT improvements stopped. They added specific features to it that I suppose games would need to take advantage of (like SER) but raw RT perfomance has stagnated as well.
I mean when 20 series dropped everybody was saying to give it some time then when you turn on RT, there won't be performance penalty, it will be like Tesselation. But we are now on 50 series and that hasn't happened.
Hard to say why exactly since Nvidia keeps shut what RT cores are exactly doing, its a secret.

EDIT

Just checked Guru3d review as they have 3dmark Port Royale and DXR benchmarks and improvement in Port Royale is there but not as much as from 3080 to 4080. And even more strange DXR perf is lower, must be some bug in either drivers or 3dmark.

This is replacing the 4080 not last years super.
That sounds like copium to me. The same copium Nvidia will be using when the 5070 is outperformed by the 4070S at the exact same price.

This would have looked a lot bettet if Nvidia skipped the 4080S launch lol

I agree though people can stick their heads in the sand all they want this is coming a year later at the same price for a very small uplift... like others are saying the 4070 super offered more than this does over what it replaces.

Hardware unboxed where showing some games where RTX 4080 Super was faster than RTX 5080 at 1440p i was shocked. It does not scale well for 1440p or 1080p.

@W1zzard please add 40 series to temperate and noise data, you at the very least need to compare to last gen, otherwise the data doesnt mean much, as its all about relativity.
Also Please add 4080 to the CNN vs transformer to the data, like you did for the 4090, these reviews will mostly be useful for comparing between generations, not different cards in the same generation.

Now all we need is a bit of competition so we can buy these cards for cheaper. Looking to replace my 3060ti soon, this and the 5070ti are the candidates.
The 5070Ti is the one I'm anticipating the most - it has more cores than the 4070Ti Super, AND it's cheaper by $50.

It should be really close to the 4080S, the real question is will anyone actually be able to buy it at 750 usd anytime soon.

Thank gaud that the benchmarks were tested with the 572 driver. Grazie
Disappointing to see that the 5080 doesn't out perform the 4090 in the games and resolution that matter to me. I should of kept my 4090.
I bet you managed to sell your 4090 for a disgusting amount of money though! Use that wisely once the dust has settled and the scalpers have moved on.
