Nvidia's GPU market share hits 90% in Q4 2024 (gets closer to full monopoly)

I dont play 4k so not relevant to me. id take the 12gb card if its faster. no question about that. reminds me of old 80s american cards with big v8 motors that put out so little power.

amd needs tough love. intel coming from the rear will hopefully light a fire up their azzes.

btw, in davinci and premiere, everyone uses nvidia cards. even black magic ceo says amd cards "are not there yet"

FWIW not everyone cares about that stuff, and I will argue that few people should care about that stuff. I'm still very happy with my 6950xt. That's the thing with many of these recommendations. I was really struggling between the 4070 and the 6950xt, and I'm gonna say every single article and the vast majority of people said the 4070 was the better purchase because a) "productivity" and b) DLSS. But the productivity thing is such a strange thing to take into account for consumers. Sure I might get into AI generation at some point and I might get into rendering or whatever and one day I'll make that youtube video for sure!. It's catering to mights and maybes and one day I'll's and frankly that's not a sensible way to buy computers. As for the DLSS stuff ... how much of that do the avarage gamer actually notice? I might be talented beyond belief, but I've never noticed any strangeness with FSR so far.

of course not everyone cares about that stuff but nvidia cares about it. amd..not so much. with so much content creators on the rise, the market for editors and productivity is through the roof. lots of streamers, lots of editing needed. youre only thinking about what interests you in a gpu. I know many photographers who became hybrid shooters and took on video and editing.

"might and maybe" but nvidia does and amd doesnt .and hence more market share. RT interest you? dlss? it doesnt to me but I dont dissmiss someone who does.

and as I was looking at a 6900xt for editing, I come to realize it sells used for more then a 3090. amd being cheaper is not so. not as new and not as used. new you have to jump high to get something thats lower with nvidia. that 7900xtx cant even better a 4070ti.

for you X matters, for others Y matters. so dont dissmiss. you are you but theres a large increase in productivity work.

I buy a gpu cause it can do productivity AND gaming. I think nvidia knows this well and hence why they deliver and amd, well. needs a bigger push. tik tok, intel is in the rear view mirror.

if I didnt care about amd, I wouldnt have bought my 5950x, and I wouldnt be hear complaining about amd. id just be super happy that I got nvidia and who gives a darn. but my complaints is because im seriously disappointed in amd in their direction with gpu. Id like to support them but not yet. they have some way to go. amd needs tough love like with bulldozer. on the brink then they wake up. thats whats happening here with gpu.

Game devs should optimize their games and not trust us gamers to use scaling!
Is it even game devs in all cases? Maybe it's just a heavy crap engine like Unreal Engine 5 "Something like Windows Vista" ? I'm not sure just asking someone probably knows....

Vista wasn't even that bad after all but yeah, UE5 is horrible. I was like WTF is this shit when I played Life is Strange: Double Exposure, I know that my 3080 isn't the fastest card anymore, but even with high (not ultra) on 4K gave like ~40 constant FPS.

Fuck that.

Where is this bespoke thread crapping because I do not see it?
Selective perception? Talking about AMD driver issues in everything only distantly AMD-related is just insecurity on the Nvidia fans and then AMD haters.
(and to be honest, I definitely see AMD fans' hooligan-like behavior driving people away)
Glasshouses my friend. Someone neutral can bring up talking points, I don't see you as one of them. I'm pretty sure you're a hardcore Nvidia fan. The issue with fanaticsm is that it stems from insecurity and issues in life. The issue with hate is the same.
AMD just has to change the divisions name back to ATi for an instant 20fps increase.
Problem with that is that ATI is too unknown now because they ceased to exist so long ago, but I know it was just a joke. ;) No the issue is just "Radeon", as soon as haters see it, they go "red".

I still remember why the dropped the ATi name too, to help with their CPU division.

:kookoo:

Ugh.

Sure I might get into AI generation at some point
Even then average person is better off trying existing services for free and subscribing to those they like, because almost everything except picture generation with Stable Diffusion is either painfully slow, simply shit or doesn't even work with existing home hardware. Latest and greatest models for picture and video generation simply don't fit even in 24GB VRAM cards, let alone something like a 4070, and the good ones for generating audio aren't open source.

I still remember why the dropped the ATi name too, to help with their CPU division.
I mean they bought ATI to include it into their company, no point keeping the name around, same with Xilinx, despite me liking the name Xilinx a lot. Shame that one is gone. Kinda shame that ATI isn't around anymore, another company like Nvidia that is 100% GPU focused would be great and not GPUs just on the side, this is the salad we have now, and companies who just do something this complicated on the side, will never be able to properly compete with Nvidia. Life is simple, if you're dividing yourself up, you're not strong enough to beat someone who is all in in that which you only do on the side. Now RX 6000 was pretty competitive - against a Nvidia with handbreaks on, using a worse node. Since then they stepped up hard, always on the best nodes now again. So one can theoretically thank AMD for keeping Nvidia on its toes, to give us faster (or more efficient) GPUs , but that's it.

edit: extra stuff

My first GPU was a Voodoo II, so I guess I was with Nvidia first.. but I still heart ATi.

My first GPU was a ATI Rage II (which was pretty shit, not a real 3D card you could say), my first really good 3D card was a GeForce 256. You can generally say I'm a pretty hardcore GeForce user, but I'm also AMD fan, so I will always be fair towards Radeon. Had 2 Radeons in between 10 years+ ago, they were pretty good though. 3DFX btw, eluded me, would've liked to have Voodoo1/2 but no way, it was just too expensive.

There was a time when I would have never bought Nvidia, I understand how the haters feel, I have been on both sides of the fence too.

Just as rabid, just as diehard :)

But things change..

I actually "somewhat" regret the GF256. I had choice first to buy Voodoo 3 3000 and declined because I was too sold on Nvidia marketing "Transform & Lightning" if anyone remembers that. Black&White, this game profited from it and I played that game. Later I realised i would've been just fine with the Voodoo, but whatever I guess.

The fact with Nvidia is obvious, if you go so far back and remember everything, their marketing was always top notch and this is too important.

Streaming and editing are the same thing? There is a program in AMD software to do just about everything you listed but I don't blame you for not knowing that. It just exposes how strong the narrative works against AMD as a whole.

What is productivity? Does that not depend on what you do with a PC to make it productive?

Why do you keep repeating the narrative that AMD GPUs are more expensive on the used market? I do see it though as the 6800XT I had cost me $400 more than my 7900XT. That is due to mining and Covid so I could see how they are more expensive on the used Market.

AMD GPUs need a bulldozer moment when every single TPU review (Of which 50+% is Gaming) the 7000 GPUs seem to do just fine, like how the 7700XT dominated the RD 580 charts on TPU.

it doesnt matter what you went through. its not relevant. also, nvidia drivers are not a hassle. I use w10 build 1709 on 2 pc. I got the last version of nvidia, went smooth. with my pos rx590 I had to download and try 12 different drivers before it installed. it kept saying os not supported. so that in itself says everything. I had crashes with the rx590. posted it here then was blamed for using a cracked game. I have the dvd right here in my drawer. got fed up, bought a 1070 within an hour I was back to playing no issues.

> I found it pairs well with RX5000, RX5500XT, RX6400, RX6600XT, RX6700XT and 4060/4060Ti.

you lost credebility when you recommended these gpu.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL + ROFL I don't even know how to process that statement. I'll think of something in a moment...
seriously...the piece of trash 5500xt and 6400?
Believe it or not 5500XT(8GB) ran Horizon Zero Down fairly nicely. Was it the best experience, probably not. Was it enough to be enjoyable. Yes. From what I know these were typically 4GB cards but Asrock put out an 8GB model for a short time and I think another vendor. This 8GB model was a pretty good deal at a time where there weren't very good deals to be had at reasonable prices at the lower end. Combined with finally stable drivers it was not bad at all. RX6600XT was leaps and bounds better when prices started to become reasonable.

As for the 6400 I don't use that for gaming but it works nicely for simple workstation card for about $150 compared to $130 GT1030. Not saying the GT1030 is bad but for the price difference the 6400 seems to be the better value. And if your not playing AAA titles but gaming on the cheap 4GB vram is better than nothing and still magnitudes better then most iGPU.
and rx5000...what gpu is that?
Oops typo RX5000 >>> RX5700
I would only pair the 5950x with 2080ti 3080 3080ti or 3090. im not buying 40 cards, and certainly not amd.
To each their own.

1030 at 130 and its antiquated.

Funniest thing of all is: I'm not. And no one believes me when I say I'm not. I'm just unwilling to compromise on the quality of my experience. I agree on the take over fanaticism.

This is exactly how I feel

I wouldn't buy Nvidia because I'm on Linux now, and AMD's support is simply better (no proprietary drivers, everything runs from the kernel). I can't put up with Microsoft's forced bullshit anymore.

But like you, I understand if someone chooses Nvidia for one reason or another. The only thing I don't understand is when people choose Nvidia (or Windows for that matter) only because they falsely believe that there is no other option to game on.

Once asus, msi, zotac etc..get to pricing these cards will be near 3k. My guess is over 4k for the scalpers. I'll be honest at my age being 49 years old I've come from the days where video cards were $100 and cheaper. I have the money to buy the newest and greatest but I'm not going to because I'm not interested in gaming and the amount of money it takes to get started anymore. I'd rather go out for a 13 Mile Run and go hiking on a mountain and spend time with my kids and family and just having a blast in society and enjoying other people in the real world. Nvidia can kiss my ass if they think I'm going to spend north of $2,000 for a single video card. I am putting up PC gaming for good for the time being and getting back at the physical fitness and from what I see the pricing from Big Green theres no better time to do it than now.

I'd wager the perception of me by many on the forum would be the same, but like you I'm able to divorce myself of politics and emotions when choosing hardware for my computer to buy. Those politics and emotions can certainly be interesting to discuss online (or poke holes in, as is often the case with me), but at the end of the day I just buy hardware that suits my personal wants and needs at the time, the colour of the box isn't even a consideration, and all viable options are considered at purchase time.

There is no way a used 6900XT costs more than a used 3090, where do you live ? In Europe a 3090 is at least 40% more.

Buy whatever makes games run at the level you need them to run out to be personally happy. Red green or blue. It doesn't really matter that Fanboy stuff is for young people. I just can't wait to get back to being physically fit again. I'm done sitting in the house playing on a computer while I see everybody else in time flying by in the real world. I'll pick up PC gaming again in about 5 years until then I'm looking forward to breathing fresh air.

I prefer Nvidia over AMD but I also prefer price/performance and here in Australia Nvidia are just to darn expensive! like eg: a 3050 is priced the same as a RX 6600, the RX 6600 eats the 3050 for breakfast! So at the moment I keep buying AMD cards....... for myself and clients.

Your last bit is spot on.

We need S3 back, same with PowerVR/Imagination Technologies to have a pcie gpu to aleviate pricing issues. Maybe Matrox should make a return, I mean Intel did after the i740 debacle.

They are overpriced and overrated for what you get, and Yes the RX 6600 series does lead.

Good for you! I think thats a great mindset - anything that compels us to get off our lazy backsides is a win in my book. Personally, I aspire to reach those goals but when it comes to gaming... "every time I get out, it sucks me right back in" :banghead: (Battlefield franchise being the worst offender).

These days i'm more of a casual gamer - not exactly by choice. You know how it goes, family commitments and the circus of mass-disruptions that come with it. Like you, I can't wait to get back to being physically fit again. I beat you to it, i had that plan of action jotted down 10 years ago... just haven’t quite gotten around to it yet (lol)
