OFFICIAL Path of Exile (Discussion)

Anyone give the Royale mod this weekend a try? I danced around a bit, but my best score was 6th. It was a pleasant break and change :)

I was tempted but never made it in. Did it pit everyone against everyone no-matter level? I was more focused on getting my Witch into Act 10.

no sorry I have busy with work, travel for work and far cry 5 lately.... I need to log on and see whats up

It was actually well done. They stated that they have received so much feedback that they have no doubt they'll be reintroducing it, they're just not sure if they will put it in full time, or only as a limited event from time to time.

you had to create a new toon each time you played, and started at level 1, with an unlinked, 3S weapon, 1 mana and 2 health pots, and 3 Wis scrolls. Then when time started, you ran for supply and cache chests. Grabbed what you needed, hoped for a Frost Blades or Split Shot, and started running. Mobs everywhere, and up to 99 other players to avoid or kill. It really was a fun break. I did very poorly most times, especially since I'm not a PVP fan, but it was a nice change :)

I played for a little bit but got side tracked when I moved, I plan on starting back up one of these days. I'm level 1i think.

Hehehe it doesn't take much to get past level 1, so you have some exciting leveling to come :)

I ment to say level 18, sorry was on my phone.

I made it to end game with my Necro. Still have more leveling to do as I think she is L76 or something. Now taking a break to level up my Marauder. L20 as of yesterday and a blast to play with. Running through a bit more quickly this time now that i know wtf I'm doing. lol.

Yeah that is the pure awesomeness of PoE to me - the things you learn with every new character you push through the game. Every time you do this you discover new mechanics, get new items, that will trigger you to try something else after that.

I believe you mean you finished the main story. That's not where PoE ends, it's where it begins.

I started a frostblade on my level 42 ranger last week, and burned thru chapter 10 at level 72. I'm highly annoyed at how much better it clears than my regular tornado hunter, but I need to work her resistance, it's way too low. She's not quite a glass cannon, but maybe Plexiglas heheh

Of course. I said I made it to end game. To me that means I finished act 10 and am now in end game (maps)

@WhiteNoise good job! I just ave to respec my witch. again..... I should be on over the weekend.

best class for someone new wanting to try this genre? I tried diablo 3 and torchlight briefly, they were ok but not really for me. any class you can recommend that might give this genre a twist that will make me enjoy it more?

pick a ready build and follow it.
this game is far more complex then diablo. just picking a class and playing will lead you to nowhere.
Here are example builds made out of one and same class

keep in mind that in order to play scion you need to get to end of act 3 with another char first.
have a look on the other builds of this guy too. i am following 3 of them and they are quite fun to play.
i would reccomend you oni-goroshi rider. it is a bit booring till you get the sword but after you pass 2nd labirint it's mean machine
also it is good to get some info in advance so you dont get lost in the game https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Path_of_Exile_Wiki
they even have a guide for diablo newcomers on the top left of wiki start page

edit: a bit of advice i forgot before
use poe stand alone client from their site. it is a bit more stable then steam version.

Most beginner builds recommend going ranged because its easier to see mechanics that way than it is in melee. I'm not entirely convinced of this.

Its all about the build complexity itself and PoE just offers so many options... Just pick something that appeals to you (Youtube is full of great guides) in terms of playstyle and run with it. You will come across new ideas along the way. There is no real 'meta game', most things work and when executed correctly are viable for the vast majority of the game. Its all about learning the mechanics and finding that synergy to have the damage numbers explode with minor tweaks.

If D3 and Torchlight was too simple... you'll enjoy this a lot ^^ PoE will feel a LOT more clunky than those two though, especially at the beginning, but as your stats grow, and as you start expanding your skill gems, that changes in a big way. Also, classes don't really exist, they only matter for two things: your start position on the passive skill tree and the specializations you can choose.

My main is a Necro at L77 now but when I first started I was doing a Ranger which I got up to L45. I had a bitch of a time with her and she just plain sucked by Act 5. She was pretty good up till that point. So i focused on my Witch/Necro and if I'm honest she is super easy to play. I mean I can solo everything so far without any sort of challenge. Of course I am only doing T3 maps at this point so more challenge ahead for sure.

That said I decided to respec my Ranger so I spent a full day just playing with passive points, looking at guides from others that have put in way more work than I have and trading like crazy to get the armor/weapons and such I wanted. Good lord is this build fast. Fast and powerful. I'm clearing locations/acts so much faster than before.

Anyways if you want to solo then a fast clearing or army of the dead build seem to work well. (Army of the dead is not an actual build but is how I think of my necro build since I run with a pack of 10 zombies, 20 flaming skulls and 1 golem).

Have you discovered / used the Brotem yet? Combined with a curse on hit, that's an incredible way to stay alive as a ranged. (Skeletons with a Spell Totem) It also allows you to keep shooting, no interrupts to curse.

so far i have only one from drop.
you may try trading too

I give up on trading... I've only got a couple of things worth EX.. I've got an Item Quantity gem I'd forgotten about at level 11, leveling it now, a new hat I got a couple weeks ago... that's about it. I might as well be playing SSF heheh.

Welcome, btw, @wdziachny :toast:

the only thing worth selling i've got so far is one oni-goroshi

Orbs drop like crazy it seems. Ex not so much but chaos and other orbs drop often. I just trade for ex when I can and so far (knock on wood) I have come out on top. It helps that some random dude gave me a small fortune for no reason so I had a great start.

It was awhile back but I needed armor scraps badly so I found a guy in trade that was selling some. No price listed just had hundreds of them. I messaged him in game and asked how much he wanted and this is how it went:

Me: "how much for the armor scraps?"
Him: "come"
Me: "I need armor scraps but how much do you want?"
Him: "Come."
(So I notice he is in his hideout and I go there)
Me: "Hi."
(Trade request pops up - I accept)
Me: " so what do you want for them?"
(the trade window fills up with several stacks of the armor scraps, 500 chaos, 40 Ex, and some random orbs)
Me: "whoa...I can't afford all that."
Him: "You take."
(at this point I realize English might not be is first language.)
Me: "Really? You are just giving me all this?"
Him: "I lots. Take."
(I accepted and he immediately left his hide out and then I did as well. and he booted me from party)
Me: "Wow man thanks that is awesome!"
(He never responded)

I'll never know why this guy did this. But he made things so much easier for me.

We talking the witch here? I do not use skeletons myself. Just zombies. Nor do I use totems for this build. I do use a curse on hit with my ranger to good effect. I tried skeletons earlier in the build but I prefer zeds as they do not have a duration. For my current witch build I do not need to worry about staying alive for the most part. Some bosses are challenging but so far my current build is blowing through most everything easily. I know I need to do more work on the build, mainly adding a couple of better armor pieces and improving some stats. I run a SRS build and it just dominates everything other than some bosses. Thats where having a friend or two comes in though. I run with a couple of friends and both can tank pretty well. Between the two or three of us we can kill bosses pretty quickly so far.

My marauder uses totems but that is the extent of my use of them at this point.

nice score :) there's some decent people in the game, no doubt....

I'm going to read a guide on maps soon but now that I'm running maps I am not sure what I should do to each map before running it. A few things I know I can do, trade three of the same in for a next tier up map linked to it.
Turn a white into a blue or a rare. I know of sextants but I don't know when to start using them. I only have one anyway.

I have quite a few maps now (mostly white with some magic and a few rare) should I not run any whites? Should I make sure they are always magic or rare? Should I use chisels to increase quality of white maps before turning them into magic or rare?

Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks!
