Im debating on selling my 3870 w/ the vf900 and getting a 8800gts (g92)

Should i go for it, i figure it would only cost me about $50 maybe less.

System RAM wont clock any higher ...stably.

GPU memory can but I need to test more with it.. I dont see much boost from OCing the card's memory.

I should have gone with a 4 Mb Conroe or Quad but last Sept the 4400 was a good buy.

Well i ran some tests on dual monitors with ccc panel open on one to monitor temps i ran counterstrike source on the other now the card is at stock i found running css in low detail only uses 2d clock speeds but still preforms great and max temps got to around 72c but only around 40% of the gpu was been used.

i then started css again but with everything up full aa & af the lot and again still preformed really well but now it uses the full 825mhz clock with gpu ranging from 40 to 60+% utilized but the temps get this 82c and this was just a few mins into the game at stock!!

So i would really advise not to overclock your 3870x2 at all on the stock cooler or it could be R.I.P. for your card.

i dont think having pci-e 2.0 will make any difference there isnt a card out yet that can use all the bandwidth a pci-e 1.1 can offer. 2.0 is just future proofing for now.

have you looked at the mounting holes that surround the GPUs??

When I was considering getting one(before they came out), I thought of using 2 swiftech MCW60 VGA water blocks and using some ram syncs to keep that cool.

Do you think the mounting holes are the same as a 3870?

Guys, i have my Athlon 64 X2 3800+ toledo core at 3.0ghz, my RAM at DDR 500mhz, and my HD 3850 is at 790mhz core...i can't get it to go any higher or it crashes in 3Dmark06...

i'm too lazy to read through the 50 pages, but can someone quickly inform me of a way to get at least another 10-20mhz out of the GPU...

my current 3Dmark06 score is 9,865

trog i know you have experience with HD 3800 series, what's the best way to get more volts to the GPU?? i have a duorb VGA cooler installed so i should be ok for heat...my goal is to break 10,000 3Dmarks and i'm only just over 100 points off of my goal...

i guessed at your goal.. a pencil.. read the thread at the top of the page about how to do it.. this will get u more than your goal..

having said that.. with the 3850 card a bios flash or edit should do the job.. the 3850 is bios crippled from a voltage point of view..

cool, so i dump my BIOS to a file, duplicate it so i can go back to the original if the shyt hits the fan, edit one, save and flash?? that's so crazy i'll be happy with 800mhz on the GPU...

basically.. when u edit.. it dosnt alter the original just saves a copy under a different name.. u then flash the copy.. all u need to alter is the voltage..
