Raptor Lake Refresh is coming!

Gigabyte already has preliminary support in the latest BIOS versions for the upcoming SKUs. We just don't know their names yet.

It's probably going to be named like the laptop counterparts. My personal predictions are something like:

i5-13600K (3.5-5.1, 3.9 E)
i5-13650K (3.6-5.4, 4.2 E)
i7-13700K (3.4-5.4, 4.2 E)
i7-13750K (3.5-5.8, 4.3 E)
i9-13900K (3.0-5.8, 4.3 E)
i9-13950K (3.1-5.9, 4.3 E)
i9-13900KS (3.2-6.0, 4.3 E)

With the i9-13950K and 13900KS overclocking somewhere to the same ballpark, KS being effectively retired but replaced by the more available and affordable 13950K.

Will be interesting to see how off was I exactly when they finally launch

Am I getting it correctly you're an i9-13900K owner? May I ask you for testing how much juice can you get from that CPU if it's limited to cheeky 130 W?

You can get around 32k-33k with undervolting at 125w

I know. But not that much. I want the extra p cores for emulators that dont use the e-cores and I want higher boost clocks for games that are over reliant on one thread.

Haswell-R and Devil's Canyon were all still 4000 parts. However, CFL was 8 and CFL-R was 9, so there's precedent for both.

Skylake was rehashed. There's no Skylake Refresh literally, although the following gens were technically it.

I suspect Intel knows that this is probably what people want the most, a 13700K with the aggressive boost clocks of a 13900K+ - if they do that, the refresh will be a hit. Alternatively, the refresh could introduce marginally slower CPUs at nominally lower prices - just like the i9-10850K, a loosely binned 10900K which was on average a little worse but with results that were within 95-100% of a 10900K's final result after undervolting and overclocked, all for a nice price.

While true that 8000 and 9000 series were both labeled Coffee Lake, the 9000 CPUs actually had a die redesign (eventually maxing out on the 9900KS, which was a similarly aggressively binned 9900K) and they definitely took more than just a couple of months to hit the market I suppose. Remember, it's been 9 months since the 13900K and 5 since the 13900KS launched, latter of which is an unicorn, they're very hard to find and their price has actually increased over time.

I'd argue Kaby Lake would fit that bill the closest, but even then it was already more refined than a simple refresh IMO.

Same architecture so I don't really care tbh, semantics.

We don't know what will be new with the 14th gen but we do know it will be RPL architecture, so in my mind it's a refresh. RPL wasn't a ADL refresh since it has actual architecture changes that resulted in per core improvements that weren't just from frequency, unlike the Skylake refreshes which just added process refinements, more cores, more frequency and a TIM change, along with minor update to IGPU.

Yeah true, but they've done it both ways before, so who knows? I wouldn't say with certainty it would be either. If I had to guess I'd say they're gonna stick with 13. Though if they do 14, I wouldn't mind.

Extremely unlikely from where I'm standing. They could MAYBE re-enable DLVR, if that turns out to work with the Alder/Raptor Point chipsets as intended, but if they chose to disable DLVR during RPL-S ES2 stage, that must mean that it's probably quite borked just like TSX-NI

Intel not having their KS or special edition chips come bare die, with a golden coloured IHS like they did for some marketing thing a while back will always be a fail to me. These chips have so much OC potential when delidded it's actually painful to see them stock.

As I mentioned before, I almost see Intel repeating Broadwell. And at that time they had already announced BDW as 5th, which resulted in HSW-R still being 4th. Now, they already marketed MTL as 14th, so I see RPL-R coming still as 13th.

I'm on a 13600k and there's been a few limiting scenarios now. one emulator based, where more p cores would help. And two is a cpu intensive game that overly utilizes one core where fps falls to 55 or so when there's a lot of shit going on (its an rts). I could see a potential 13750 solving both of these problems. And I should still be able to get a decent price for a 13600k, still got the box and everything.

If I am not being too nosy asking this, what emulator are you running which needs more than the 6 P-cores of your 13600K?

Yuzu running at 4x resolution, for games where 3x breaks the graphics ( like xenoblade chronicles). And don't go telling me its only gpu based because its not. I have a 4090 and performance at this res increased a lot after upgrading from 11600k to 13600k ( not saying you would, but some people seem to think that).

Eight core monolithic/single CCD chips are ideal for modern console emulation.
