your bios is a little out of date btw
It's like 2 months old? This is my GPU Test System, so changing the BIOS means retesting around 40 graphics cards in 25 games at 3 resolutions = 3000 benchmark runs. The system is running fine and I have better things to do than waste my time with this. I am planning to retest around Xmas time, with new drivers, new games, new BIOS, maybe even Zen 5 or Arrow Lake

Double standards. When games come out, the lack of DLSS support and/or the bad performance of Nvidia hardware is promoted as anticompetitive move from AMD.
When FSR is not supported or Radeons are performing poorly, it's again AMD's fault.

Anyway, with Nvidia controlling 80% of the market, games, especially those sponsored from Nvidia are highly optimized for Nvidia's hardware. They are only tested for compatibility on Intel and AMD hardware. Intel and AMD cards will need something more than just a new driver and that would probably be a patch from the game developers in 1-3 months from now.

That's just fanboys, mate. Games that run particularly well on Radeon while running poorly on Nvidia are very rare. The other way around is more common due to deficiencies with AMD's own ecosystem.

It may not even be raw performance-limited as AMD hasn't released game ready drivers yet. That's merely a possible reason, not an excuse as AMD hasn't even released game ready drivers for last week's new game darling, Wukong.

Any day week now, AMD.
There is a "hotfix" driver for both (24.10.37.04 - and I only know it exists due to discussions elsewhere), but good luck waiting for a WHQL release. And still it has issues with Wukong.

I only watched the DF video of the console version which visually looked fine to me. I'm also not overly invested in star wars at least not after Disney destroyed it lol.
The videos don't do this game justice. Neither do the screenshots honestly. Running locally at 4K (even with DLSS) it's easily one of the most graphically impressive games available (really only topped by Hellblade 2, which is to be expected with how linear that game is, and in some areas Avatar, mainly foliage quality and density but that's always been a big focus for Avatar in general).

Thanks for proving my point.

I think people with AMD/Intel hardware should first wait for a patch from the developer that will optimize performance for those GPUs, before buying this game.

Question. The test was done with the "Ultra" preset? Is that with or without RT? Because I'd be shocked if a 7900XT can do 60 fps @ 1440p with RT. So I assume the testing was done without RT stuff. But than I'm shocked that even the mighty 4090 struggles without RT. So I'm Confucius, is the test done with or without RT stuff?

Honestly I thought it look visually pretty good outside of the mostly weak character models. So I was surprised people were being so critical but maybe I shouldn't be lol. Avatar running on the same engine also looks good especially the environments.

I think there is a lot of ubisoft hate and star wars fatigue going on which at this point is probably warranted, I try to be as unbiased as possible towards a publisher and a franchise and just judge it on its own merit I don't really care who makes a game, their political beliefs, what country they're from, only that the game is good or not.

I've had a decent amount of fun with Cod every year even though the internet loves to hate that game although I have an actual group of buddies to play it with, I probably wouldn't enjoy it solo.

That being said the gameplay to me looks meh and kinda shallow in this game. I'll probably pick it up on a sale at some point regardless.

The game always has a form of RT enabled just like Avatar which is a shader based solution I believe is similar to software lumen in UE5.... W1z can correct me if I'm wrong.

It's enabled in the console versions as well.

RT is always on in this game. Are you asking "was RTXDI off?" yes, that was turned off

You really can't get the true visuals from YouTube videos or screenshots, unfortunately, many people seem to not understand that.

Why? If it's there, why not use it?

because its not needed for the visuals we get? imagine you have 16 gb and this mediocre does not load in because of a shortage of Vram....

oh dont be such a silly purist or whatever you call it, this is almost as bad as those "audiophiles", apart form a bit of bandwith constrained artifacting you get 99% of the visuals just fine via youtube.

It's no wonder people struggle to tell the difference in upscaling comparisons on YouTube sometimes, the compression and artefacts can equal or be worse than the upscaling artefacts, effectively borking the comparison. I wholeheartedly agree with DF's methodology for those, they play the game normally and when artefacts catch their eye in that normal gameplay, they do 200-400% zoom to be able to demonstrate it over a YouTube video, yet theres always people that complain that they zoomed in to show them.

Let's be real there could be 100 people looking at the same thing saying it looks better and you'd have that 1 fanboy saying na it's worse lol.

I agree though YouTube compression destroys detail to the point making visual comparisons in motion pointless on it. Not sure if they still do but DF use to have the full quality downloads locked behind their patreon ofc.

It's not just that. We all have different perceptions of what looks good and what doesn't. What's wrong with you saying that something looks good while I think it doesn't, or vice versa?

With that said, I think most of us can agree that the character models in this game look dogshit, and not because of the number and quality of visual effects used.

This is certainly true as some people do not mind some aliasing and noise as long as the overall presentation is very sharp, whereas I really don't like noise or aliasing and don't mind some softness in the presentation as long as distracting line crawl and shimmering is nonexistent or at least kept to a minimum. IMO Forza Horizon 4 with 4xMSAA is a great balance of these 2 things though I guess the trees could be a bit less aliased. I'm rarely looking at trees, though.

While dog crap is probably not as far as I would take it lol they made some unfortunate decisions for sure especially considering the model they used for the main character looks almost nothing like the main character.

The model used for DAO looked closer to the in game character lmao and that game does have horrible graphics even when it released.

That's one thing. The other thing is that a lot of faces seem to have flat one-colour textures like they were made of plastic. And the animations! Ugh. Half-Life 2 had way more convincing facial expressions back in 2004! So from my PoV, dogcrap it is, unfortunately.

That was pretty terrible in Avatar also honestly but it wasn't as bad because you are generally not looking at human faces... It seems like this engine doesn't do facial animation very well in general.

Then this isn't a very good engine, I'm afraid. It takes way too much performance away for lights and shiny things that I personally don't care about, but leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to characters and character animations which can make or break my immersion. I mean, come on, it's 2024, even an infant knows how to code some light and a shiny surface. The fact that they (light and sheen) still serve as a benchmark of good graphics for an AAA studio up to this day is very sad.

It's good at what it was intended for as the base for the Division 1/2 but I think they've tried to use it way too long Kind of reminds of of Bungie and Bethesda honestly not wanting to let go of their aging tech and just bolting stuff on top.

That being said Black Myth Wukong's english voice acting is pretty poor also and it's probably my game of the year so far.

What's your definition of fun?

Based on reviews I've watched, it's mostly a stealth game with instant game over upon detection, and with a crapton of random things that can trigger it. It doesn't suit my definition of fun, unfortunately.

Sounds more like tedious than fun but I don't get into stealth games very much. Not my thing.
