Technical Issues - TPU Main Site & Forum (2021)

I think they're invisible in the forums but can still be viewed via frontpage. So, if you read the article via the news pages, you'll see ignored folk. Is it that?
Nope, it's here in the forums. I'll supply a screenshot;

Not only can we still see them, but we can show the content with a single click. Someone who is ignored should not be shown at all, nor should we have the option to open what is being displayed.
Then there is the following at the bottom of the page;

@Ahhzz This is what I was talking about when I said the ignore function is useless.

I see what you mean. I thought it did hide posts.

Edit: It does hide posts but if the post is quoted by someone else it becomes available as a 'show content' option.

Actually, that seems to work as intended. The ignore feature will remove all comments from the ignored users. However, it will show that someone is quoting them, as you did there. I tested this myself. Check the comment numbers. Comment #102, which is xorbe's comment, doesn't show up, but hat quoted him. Since xorbe is ignored, the comment is hidden, but you can choose to show it anyway, if you need the context for the quote, without having to go to your preferences and remove the user from the ignore list.

Now, I remove xorbe from my ignore list and comment #102 is back.

In other forum software(and even other implementations of XenForo) when someone is ignored or blocked, the blocked person is not shown at all to the user doing the blocking.

We haven't made any changes to XF's ignore behavior. Maybe they changed it with the latest version?

Hi,
Only way you see an ignored members comment is if someone reacts to their post with a like/... and it's just a summery

Hi,
Nice spoiler fix :-)

@lexluthermiester @windwhirl How do you get the dark theme? It'd be helpful to me since I mostly browse the site at night.
Dark Reader

Plug-in for Firefox in my case, but there are options for Chrome and other browsers. Works great in most sites, on TPU the only downside is that, in the notifications area, new notifications are pretty hard to distinguish from old ones. See below:

The little dot at the end of each notification helps a lot with that, though.

So then the question is, can we get the ignore feature setup so that ignored users do not show at all with the current setup?
I don't think such a feature exists, and I don't think it's worth investing a lot of time for writing an addon?

Hi,
Easiest seems to add low quality post code to ignored members :/
Silly ignored flags already do this.

Sad face. It is really very annoying to continue seeing ignored users...
Hi,
If you didn't see the ignored member in the quote you'd be wondering and probably ask what in the hech the person that quoted the ignored member was talking about.

Nah, the current functionality of the ignore options works better in that regard, since it outright hides the comments themselves completely, not even a banner is shown, with the only exception being the quotes and a small button at the end of the page.

Lex, I think it's better as it is. The comments only show up in other people's quotes, and even then you have to click the button for them to actually show up.

Unless the ignored user is heavily quoted, it's pretty easy to just skip it, and users still get to decide for themselves whether or not they want to see each ignored's specific comment, to understand the context of the quote, without having to navigate to the user preferences, removing the guy from the list, going back to the thread, reading the comment and then putting the user back into the ignore list. It's a good middle ground between the intended goal and general usability.

Hi,
Yeah name alone doesn't bother me it's the argument instigating that does lol :D

Wanting the ignored user's presence wiped off the face of the earth seems like a case of extreme cancel culture to me  I mean, it's their content that you don't want to see, so the forum hides the content. If even the mere mention of their name is that irritating, well......

I think the current implementation works pretty well. I then always end up taking them off the list bc I realize it's really just one post that rubbed me the wrong way and they're not actually the kind of troll that I'd actually want on ignore

Hi,
Difficult to remember all instigators names so the ignore is a reminder of whom not to bother with.

Thats more of a block feature, not an ignore feature.

As others said, you kinda need to know they've been quoted or threads you're in would make no sense

I have my timezone set to +10 hrs (my timezone)
and the clock is still completely wrong

Seeing an ignored member's name, and no content, actually puts a smile on my face knowing I don't have to read their ramblings.
