Still getting random bits of lag, so guessing the work is still ongoing.

Its most common when editing a previous submitted post and a bit less often when submitting a brand new post. The general browsing is less affected.

Yeah, I get random major slowness, where it looks like a JS is possibly hanging. In fact, I just got that extreme slowness with this post.

Software Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Workstation now migrated to W10 with regrets.
Not sure if running a business query on the production data is called playing?

Wizzard said:
(snips)
  • So I wanted to reduce the working set to just August by copying that month into a separate table: INSERT INTO .. (SELECT .. FROM .. WHERE timestamp > "2024-08-01-01")
  • As soon as the query was killed, MySQL started executing a rollback to undo the rows that it inserted in the new table (I probably somehow thought I was running SELECT, not INSERT, so no rollback expected)
  • At this point I realized that I mistyped the timestamp (2x "-01"), so it actually was actually copying ~70 GB of small rows into a temp table, and was now rolling them back one-by-one
I'm not looking to blame or tease, just lessons learned.

INSERT INTO <fark> <fark> is not a read-only business query for a live production server.
Rollback on live production server, oof.
Is it true that there is no validation on the timestamp and that "2024-08-01-01" is misparsed? That's truely awful and I can see problems worldwide with this kind of issue. No wonder SQL injections can kill servers. It's 2024 and I would have thought that software publishers would have dealt with this sort of stuff, including a "PRODUCTION SERVER=YES" means only read-only manual queries, even some kind of security "signing" on the production code to stop rogue or accidental <fark> by developers, and unexpected data formats should HALT or SKIP not EXECUTE.

I don't worry about this sort of stuff on TPU. But can you imagine this happening in a banking, supermarket, or ATC system? I had some idiots at Europcar Karlsruhe last week who couldn't print off a damage report on a hire car they wanted to give me, and couldn't print out a contract, and they said "we don't know what to do, the manager isn't here, and technical support is in another city, can you come back tomorrow!"

When a genius is needed to live-support a production system, that's not a production system. That's a pilot-system. Needing a very competent on-demand captain, pilot, navigator and fixer.

Eh. DB engines are here to help you express yourself, not limit you.

TBH, I've been AFK for a couple of months. IDK when these slowdowns started to occur, what the Wizzard is doing with it and about it, and I'm kinda lazy to read back through the thread to find out. So I'm just blindly submitting a feedback. I never experienced TPU being this slow, at least for the 15+ years I'm reading it.

This is what makes it hit harder, before the issues TPU was one of the fastest sites on the net. Very consistently fast.

Folks saying the site feels a little sluggish at times - figured that was just me over the past few days. Running a tracert shows time outs between my hops once it leaves the MN area and starts making its way towards what appears to be the east coast.

Today seems better than the past couple of days. Usually I get 3 or 4 request timed out before things pick up again.

I figured my issues was out of my hands because it seems to take place between the user and end target. I didn't think the issue may be website/server side for things feeling slow - or am I having the joy of experiencing them both?

Back from holidays, fixes coming in the next days

They are there, but syncing files is broken. Investigating right now
Why does this always seem to happen when you're about to go on holiday? This is at least the fourth year(not in a row) this has happened.

This site has speed issues from my end, just now it was quick as lightening... other times slow as a steam train. Yet other random sites I have are loading as normal.
