Have no idea if this is anything relevant, but, bizarrely, the site seems to work significantly faster for me on iOS Safari than on either Chrome or FF on PC while being connected to the same router (Wi-Fi on mobile, Ethernet on PC). This behavior was consistent throughout the day.

Finally achieved my first 502.

My ISP and carrier both suck so bad I didn't notice any issues with slowdowns - all sites always work like this, besides the 502.

Guessing this was an expected event that rarely happens on forum anymore. Typically this was a result of someone(s) erasing numerous messages on their account or a massed sweeping of posts out of sight by mods/admin. Directly following this I received a line of text in top left corner while refreshing front page, "A server error occurred. Please try again later."

Trying without attachment showing an empty page with page number headers - Worked. Site will not accept a Ctrl-V screenshot.

Well, I'm having some issues right now, but I can't upload the screenshot as it throws an error right away - "A server error occurred. Please try again later."

The same error message also may appear when opening the alerts list.

Let me test it then.

This was the error I was getting when trying to load some pages:

was? or still getting it?
Was getting it earlier when I mentioned it but couldn't attach the screenshot. Didn't happen again, but I thought it would still be interesting to share it.

EDIT: just got a several minutes long 502.

Yeah, site seems to be running great now.
Indeed, I reinstalled one of three core web servers, updating the OS in the process, from Fedora 38 to Ubuntu 24.04, which means much newer kernel and much newer software. Didn't expect it to make such a big difference.

edit: we can run that node without kube-proxy now, maybe that's what's making the difference (https://docs.cilium.io/en/stable/network/kubernetes/kubeproxy-free/). Will reinstall the other two nodes tomorrow, hopefully with less issues/downtime

whoops, disk full, because i had too many backups t.t
LOL! Been there... way to many times... It's amazing how fast storage provisions fill up.

You ever consider putting up a notification banner to let people know about this?

I'm trying to keep things running 100%, no "scheduled" downtime, but bad things happen. The vast majority of our visitors each day visit for a few minutes only, so why make them worry about things that don't affect them?

If they visit for a few minutes a day and the experience is shit because things are broken and there's no explanation as to why, they are going to assume that the experience is always this shit and never return.

If you give them an explanation for why the experience is shit, they're far more likely to try again later.

So I guess it boils down to how much you care about user acquisition and retention.
