It's also cracked too

sony games are all unprotected (apart from the steam drm but that's a joke), they apparently don't like Irdeto, something very ironic as they were the ones that created the monster.

Iron Galaxy are a mystery, they make decent PC ports but sometimes they crap out the worst ports we've seen like Arkham Knight and now this, Sony shouldn't have given their most prestigious game to an inconsistent studio.
So much for this being an internal ND project.

They've had 3 big title ports now that have been stuttering messes. Arkham Knight, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves, and now The Last of Us Part 1, I don't know why people trust them to do ports, they do not have a good track record at it.

Lets be real though for most console game makers the PC is an afterthought. Almost every PC port that uses UE4 has shader compilation issues as it is. Most games require two to 3 weeks of patches to get to a decent place. This has honestly felt a lot worse during and post the pandemic not sure if that has anything to do with it just an observation.

This is why I was honestly surprised D4 was in such a good state sure it has issues it was a beta but it still felt better than a lot of actual released games over the last couple years.

Heard the same being said of Dead Space Remake, and while it does have a hitching issue, whether traversal in nature or due to other reasons, it is NOT as bad as some would let others believe, I've finished the game and on my 3rd runthru at Survivalist difficulty and it's been a hoot. The hitching occurs here and there, and I can say 99% of the time, it's smooth sailing, and has never occurred during fights with Necromorphs.

The way I see it, it comes down to whether the team doing the port knows UE4 well or not. This is rather obvious because there are also examples of UE4 games that do not have stuttering problems. Other than that, it's a matter of whether the team is given proper time and funding to do it right. So either way, it comes down to how much Sony, Rocksteady, whoever, puts into the project.

Easy to say with a 4090 in your rig.

i can confirm as well at least for me it runs just fine on my 4090 with 32GB of system memory with no noticeable stutters. I agree though you shouldn't need that to get decent perfomance although just dropping settings to console level seems to help a lot.

I do hope the game gets patched and they get it working much better on lesser hardware because I honestly like the way it looks at native 4k at 100fps ish much better than the PS5 version for sure.

Yeah I'm not saying they should necessarily lean toward low end spec, just provide good scaling performance wise for a wide range of hardware. I mean it makes sense because it's only a very small percentage of the gaming community that has very high end spec, especially now that GPU prices have gone through the roof. It doesn't make a lot of sense to make a port of a game of this caliber only to have the majority of player's spec struggle with it. It's not just about making games look good, it's about making enough off of them to keep the developing machine rolling. The Mostly Negative rating on Steam tells me they aren't doing that with this port. Pretty easy to figure out really because this game was raved about everywhere, until this PC port came along. And I know how Sony thinks, they are not quick to greenlight PC ports, or even sequels on console of some of their better titles, like Days Gone. That's why there's an online petition for a Days Gone 2 with over 198,000 signatures so far, with no word from Sony yet if they'll commit to it.

I am excited for the last generation consoles to die as typically that brings up minimum targets for games at the same time the Xbox Series S is pretty trash so they likely won't get bumped up to much.

People just like to complain, especially online, and especially about things they haven't actually tried themselfs.

As i've already shown, and will gladly show again now, the game isn't actually very demanding in terms of load (86% load at 1875 mhz is the equivelant of 52% of 4090 max performance) - a 3090 will run it NP at native 4k, as would a 3070 with dlss at 4k, if it had had 16gb vram.

That is all this game is - vram and ram demanding. Use dlss and lower texture setting to stay within your vram limit, and you will have no issues...

LOL, I'm on a 1080 still, but honestly, most games still play fine on it at 1080p, including RDR2 at reasonable settings that allowed for very good visuals and smooth performance. What's strange to me is instead of painting a realistic picture of min spec hardware, they shot too low with a 4770 and 1050 Ti, and say you must play at 30 FPS 720p on that spec. I mean, who does that in this day and age? Then on 1080p spec they shoot up to a 2070 Super or 3060 required. I HAVE the 8700 they mention, but I will likely have to use a combo of High and Med settings instead of the High preset holistically to get anywhere NEAR 60 FPS is my guess.

Trust me, I know how to manage settings, and I also confer with Digital Foundry for settings tips when need be. After all, a lot of games don't have extensive CVAR files you can tweak anymore. I actually played Crysis 1 on a P4 single core with X1950XT at 1200x900 with playable FPS and managed by accessing TweakGuides.com extensive guide on it. I spent about an hour testing various CVARs to see if I could tweak performance to the max, and came upon a rather useful discovery. Sure, I had to use primarily stealth, as when a big firefight broke out it would drop below 25 FPS, but it was very playable.

To give you an idea how taxing it got with lots of effects, here's a little vid I made of the demo I call Raining Cars.

At 1080p you will have no issues with a gtx 1080. And should you need more performance, you can use fsr2 quality mode.

Yeah I forgot about FSR 2, that might indeed help. I saw a vid a guy did using the CPU and GPU I have playing Hogwartz Legacy, a game that's fairly taxing, and FSR 2 came in very handy for him.

Indeed, amd's efforts with fsr is ironically becoming a saving grace for older nvidia cards, that nvidia are gatekeeping from dlss. I know yours is "just" a 1080, but 1080 ti in particular will be viable for a long time when used together with fsr2, and it's getting closer to dlss in terms of image quality all the time.

This screenie is taken by a friend with a 3060 ti at 1080p using high preset and no dlss. Your fps would be a little less than half of his, but add fsr2, and you'd be above 60 again :)

My wife and I really enjoyed the HBO series, but for me there weren't enough zombies. Hardly any in fact, which my wife was contended with, shall we say.
As for the game. It's too expensive, appears to be badly optimised and for those reasons, I'll be waiting.
I had zero problems with Uncharted which was ported by Iron Galaxy and Days Gone remains one of my all-time favourites. I'd love to play TLOU, if my PC can handle it because it does look sumptuous, but not yet.

You'd have no problems playing it, assuming you play at 1080p.

Edit : i see you play at 1440p - that would probably be a stretch with a 5700 gpu.

Is it smooth at 45-50 FPS, or is it one of those games you need to be at 60 FPS for it to be smooth? Also, does it screen tear badly, or can you leave Vsync off?

I find it smooth sub 60, but i am playing with gsync. If you don't have a gsync monitor, i'd use the adaptive vsync setting in the nvidia control panel if i were you :)

But tbh i dont think you'd need to be worried about not being able to reach 60 - sure, you might have to lower the most demanding settings, but down to medium, it doesn't make too much difference visually.

OK, thanks, I might try it then, at least for a couple hrs anyway.

Clickbait vid from someone that likely didnt bother waiting on the shader compiling based on the fact that he clicks away while it's at 19% shader compile in the vid, and likely didnt bother making sure that the settings are within the vram limit on his gpu, thus gets massive stuttering every time he turns around, as it has to flush vram to load in new assets.

Aka his issues are his own fault.

But.....waiting around for 10-30 minutes for the shaders to compile? That's just f'ing crazy, if you ask me. Nothing more fun than loading up a game and then sitting there watching the shader's compiling slowly tick up to 100%.

While the person that made the video may be at fault for not waiting for the shaders to compile, I think the port sounds like a POS if it requires you to wait a long time just so you can go in and play it. But maybe that's just me.
