I have a similar speaker in a HP case and AFAIK it's a proprietary speaker which can also output normal sound like normal speakers. It's not your typical PC beep speaker.

Nope, you're absolutely spot on. I gutted a dx2300 just last week and it had the same kind of speaker. It indeed is used as both a PC beep speaker and can also output sound.

Also got the mainboard to go with it, a MSI MS-7336 946GZ OEM mainboard (which may also probably work with retail MSI BIOS, assuming I can find the closest retail equivalent to it.)

The one I have and the one Greenslade has is two pronged, as far as I remember. It's not the standard 4 pin header used on most mainboards.

Saw that one. The CPU @ stock speeds is a huge bottleneck. I've commented there that I had an E6400 @ 3.4GHz back in the day and that was a totally different thing than running it at stock 2.13GHz.

Got that same Alienware system. The one that I have is sporting a quad core.........Hmm, I think a Q9450. I'd have to check to be sure.

I know the one I have is prior to Dell purchasing Alienware. Pretty sure that the processor was upgraded before I got it.

I got it and another Alienware (Dell) from a local fella for $60 for the pair. The Dell version had a issue with the motherboard though. It would boot just fine, and sit in the BIOS all day just fine, but as soon as you tried to go to windows, it would crash. I tried a ton of different hard drives and all the SATA ports along with the IDE ports and it would always do the same thing.

Tried a ton of different memory modules as well as other processors. All with the same outcome.

Ended up replacing the motherboard.

But the ole black beauty, still rocks!!!!!!!
I've got an offline registered XP operating system on it and fire it up once in awhile. It's frigging fast as hell.
Still play original Doom, Doom II, Heretic, Quake, Quake II and F.E.A.R. on it when the nostalgic gaming bug happens.

I'll be honest, I haven't been following the entire CMOS speaker discussion so maybe I'm missing something, but under the normal circumstances it is possible to modify the speaker connector (or any other internal connector of that type, such as LED & reset switch headers) simply by GENTLY prying the plastic tab and pulling out the wire & its contact tab.

That way you can replace the connector for anything if (or rather, when) needed, and these things can be found online - usually in bulk & large quantities.

I see your point, I got 10 of those buzzer speakers for £2.94, The cheapest price for just one is £2.40 in the UK. How can they justify charging so much for just one in the UK? Of course, I don't want ten of them.
As regards my MSI 865PE Neo3 the CPU fan spins no light on the board, And the on /off switch only turns it on not off. And can you tell me I need a fan for my old case is this fan in the photo what they call a 120mm? I was thinking of getting the one below is that the right size for the case? It is the cheapest I can find ,I just want a basic fan

I am unfortunately unable to test the K8N Neo3-F BIOS. The motherboard has one x16 PCIe slot & one x1 slot. I only have an x4 NVMe PCIe card, & my HD 2400 Pro does not work with the AGR slot. In the event that I purchase a x1 NVMe adapter, I will certainly test this board.

I have also tested a 1TB MX500 on the internal NF4 SATA II ports just for fun. However, the drive is operating in SATA I mode. I can only assume this is a compatibility issue, or perhaps due to a lack of NF4 chipset drivers for W10 32-bit.

Another flawless execution by yourself, as usual. It's very weird to see such an old board utilize NVMe.

Yes, I did flash the BIOS to the K8N Neo3-F board, with success. Although, for the limitations I listed previously, I could not test NVMe function.

I have just seen this video it got me thinking looking at the small heatsink,s that i got with my DDR4 motherboard,Comparing it with the old 775 socket one apart from having the brass on the bottom of the 775 heatsink amd being a lot bigger,the perfomance of it is a lot better than the later smaller one.

True, it is. I had that card. It was a real winner and held is value & relevance longer than most cards. Putting a Zalman cooler on it allowed for a generous OC that kept it competitive even longer.
