It's got some new MX-4 & APT2560 on it now. :) And can definitely confirm, it's all copper.

IBM 3340 Winchester 30/30 HDD:

Up into the early 1990s the term Winchester or Winnie was used for hard disk drives in general long after the introduction of the 3340, but is no longer in common use in most parts of the world. The drive packs could be replaced, kinda like floppy disks. I never personally saw one of these units they were already obsolete by my time. I remember HDD's being referred to as Winchester drives, even in my microcomputer support group (which was small, underfunded and unimportant back then, but was quickly gaining steam due to word processing programs like Word, QuattroPro, Wordstar and Wordperfect, Lotus 1-2-3 (the seminal spreadsheet program for PC's), DBASEIII+ and Foxpro (the latter two being DB programs). The VAX based office productivity programs were made obsolete by PC programs (they weren't called applications back then).

Rarely were my fellow scrubs in the microcomputer support group allowed in the Valhalla that was the mainframe control room or the datacenter itself.

The mainframers all wore 3-piece suits and ties to work. Us scrubs in the microcomputer support group wore shirt sleeves and slacks (like the VAX guys did).

The most powerful PC's always went to the people who seemed to need them the least. The mainframe demigods got 80486's with big 15" color monitors while all they did w/their PC's was use them for email (i.e. through a terminal emulation program to the VAX). They usually had a separate real IBM terminal for their mainframe work (5150's or 3161's), but sometimes used special cards and software to emulate an IBM terminal on their PC. The people who really needed the 80486's with their math co-processor were in finance and they had to struggle with 80386SX's with discrete 80387sx math co-processors.

A pretty rare sight - Zephyr-based 360 w/ OG "Blades" dashboard. Was reflowed at 350*C on both CPU and GPU, just needs some clamp reinforcing and some Arctic MX6-based TLC action.

It's interesting that the IBM 3340 Direct Access Storage Facility introduced in 1973 used what could be considered the first portable/external HDD. That round-shaped case with a handle housed a complete removable HDD in a sealed self-contained cartridge, including disks and arms/heads assembly:

For the curious, these are the specs of the IBM 3348 Data Module: 35 and 70 MB capacity, 885 KB/s max transfer rate, 25 ms avg seek + 10 ms latency, 3000 rpm spindle speed o_O

I always wondered what happened to IBM mainframers. Those guys made big $$$ in IT back then (in the late 20th century). At the hospital I worked at (Cedars-Sinai) all the billing, patient data, admissions and accounting data were on Big Iron. The whole IT department revolved around them and everyone else (the VAX guys, the microcomputer support group) were satellites around them. Practically everyone else had to share office space or had cubes but the mainframers all had their own offices. A lot of them were ITT tech graduates or from the military and laughed at people with CompSci degrees. They couldn't have cared less about UNIX or C/C++ or DEC VAXes or PC's (which they called toys). One of my friends, around 2000, made nearly $200/hr. programming COBOL on IBM mainframes to mitigate the Y2K bugs which were cropping up on Big Iron programs. He got calls weekly from headhunters all over the USA wanting to employ him for COBOL contract work and they paid for all his moving expenses and some contracts even offered to pay his rent for the duration of the contract! He became a mainframe mercenary selling his antiquated mainframe services to the highest bidder. I don't anyone who knows how to program COBOL now.

I have just bought an 1150 motherboard for use with my E3 1246 V3 CPU and see that it is 85w would a stock Intel heatsink fan be enough I saw on one that it was only 65w. I would like to get one that screws in rather than those nasty plastic ones.£15 would be my upper limit. Can anyone give me links to something suitable? https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B85M-E45/Gallery I ruled Gigabyte because of all the problems with Dual Bios it seems it is more trouble than it is worth so I am sticking with MSI :)
A lot of nonenglish reviews :(I don,t know why they don,t put subtitles on them have just seen this on eBay I was just looking at a video by mine and Kissamies fav YouTubers using what looks like the same Coolermaster Heatsink fano_O

I had a little time to myself tonight and fired up the G3258/GTX960 machine. It was nice to see my old 4GB kit of DDR3-2133 still work since it hasn't been used or stored nicely since I removed them. Easy2boot loaded my XP ISO totally fine. Snappy Driver loaded everything needed except for the Intel Gbe LAN, so I used my Realtek USB to Gbe dongle instead. Windows loaded faster than I remember from my AthlonXP/WD Raptor days, boot times are nothing, and running 3DMark2001 through 2005 is just silly. 01 pegs out the FPS meter at 999 much of the time, and 05 is so CPU bound that the GPU fans almost never spin up.

Anyone have a Intel Z97 LAN driver that works in WinXP?

So someone does have the well regarded G3258 was it as good as people were saying on utube.I have the GTX960 with i5 2400.and also only have 4gb on it.Easy2Boot and Snappy drivers are good .I Allso have a Retro Althon 2400
system.

I have managed to take the CPU Heatsink fan off the NEO motherboard ,I had to take my time with to make sire i did not break any of the plastic clips on it.I tried it on the other MSI boards no luck apart from the light on the motherboard,I had a gpu on there to i don,t know why it did not work as before both fan,s span.o_OI don,t see any broken pins.I am glad i managed to get the Heatsink Fan off the board. :)

Is the CPU put in the right way?Because when i put the CPU and Heatsink back on now it is nor spinning.I am at a loss i thought it would all work with the CPU.

All i the lugs that on the Heatsink fan are showing correct install .I tried it again the fan span for a second making a grinding noise then went off,i tried it another time blue lights were flashing on the board. o_O I just replaced a cpu in a working PC and that worked fine ,but that was a Dell ,with a scewed heatsink fan. I think the Cpus in the motherboards are fitted properly.I can only think it is the pin heatsinks. :(

I haven't watched the video yet, but I have two of the G3258s now. One that I got with the Asrock Z97 Anniversary board, and the other I bought boxed off ebay. I re-lidded it with Conductonaut and OC'ed it to an easy 4.8GHz, for 50%. Haven't had such a monster overclock since my Celeron 420 (100% OC, stock volts, just doubled the FSB to 1600 on my IP35Pro).

Assembled my "peak Win7 Ultimate" rig today, an all-eVGA build of a Z97 Classified with the Devil's Canyon 4790K, my other GTX 960 FTW, Sandisk MLC (hehehe) 1TB drive, and a brand new eVGA 750W Gold PSU. This machine is just sick and I'm pretty proud of the wire management. It'll get my 32GB kit of Gskill 2133CL9 and probably go on H2O (or maybe a black TRUE Extreme?), but man it runs cool as is. 55C on the CPU on full auto with the copper Thermalright AXP90 on it. I'll add Win10 to the other partition soon, but I think WinXP will be a G3258-only thing.

For some reason I can't get OC Scanner to work in Afterburner on it, but otherwise it runs cool on Heaven. GPU won't go past ~50C and 800rpm at <100W. Incredible. Seems a bit looney to think of putting the dual Titans in it.

What cpu is it? That board only supports Prescott Pentium 4/Celeron's.
Yrd i know.
MSI 865 neo 3 Pentium 3.8, It is the same CPU it came with. I took it out to check the pins. The heatsink fan was spinning before but no light on the board. See the CPU pictures of the socket and further up the page, i can't seem to find them on my camera.

I don't see anything wrong in your pictures. The only things I can suggest are to re-seat the cpu and clear the cmos.
Did the board work previously to this?

I'll add that the RAM should be in slots 1 & 3. You should blow the slots out before moving the RAM.

It doesn't matter, 1-3 or 2-4 are both correct.

I only got it a couple of weeks ago. The seller said the heatsink fan span and the light turned on in the board. But when I tried it before I took off the heatsink and reseated the CPU the fan was spinning, but no light on the board Some one on here told me to take the CPU Heatsink off and check the pins on the CPU, and the holder. but as you can see there are no pins broken on either the CPU holder or the CPU. I reseated the CPU and put the heatsink fan back on it did not even spin.:( That's why I wanted to check if I had connected the CPU properly in the socket. It only cost five pounds, I am surprised it does not work bearing in mind the condition of the motherboard o_OI am new to all this.

What about this board? the GPU and CPU fans spin for a short time and spin back on and off.Bluelifgrts on the board spin on and off , and the orange light stays on all the time. Any ideas, I am at a loss.:(I am waiting for the bleeper speaker to come hopefully I will get more of an idea of what is going on. The GPU was connected by the way.

This Z97 Classified is wicked. I put in my best DDR3 kit, 4x8GB Gskill CL9 2133. Ram voltage sagged a bit and threw three errors on Memtest64 at CR1T. Bumped the voltage by .025V to bring it to 1.60V and no errors.

All banks full, running at 2133-1T? W00t!

Never could do that with my 2600K. It hated running faster than 1600 with the same sticks.

This board makes some cool beeps on bootup since it has an onboard speaker. I like it.

This guy has a lot of luck with the PCs he pays peanuts for. And yet I have no luck with the motherboards I buy.:(
I like his videos though :)
On the subject of my NEO board it does not look good:(
Cpu fan spins no lights on the board
Answer from a forum post on another forum
*But CPUs almost never are the cause afaik. From all the posts, articles I've read, and personal experiences, a bad CPU is rare, not one bad CPU in my dead motherboard cases, 3 Intels and 1 Biostar.
So unless i i get some beeps when i get the speaker for my board the board will be toast.:(
I have just seen this on Gumtree I find it hard to believe its for free
Giving away only the case. Includes two fans. In very good condition, half a year old bought for 60£.If this is free i find it hard to believe someone would give a case like that for free ,i would give a tenner for it no problem.
