Contact's been fine, runs hot with both Corsair H70 and Arctic Freezer 50, I know that Ivy runs way hotter than Sandy but damn.
Ok. Maybe the thermal load being output by the CPU is more than that cooler can handle. Perhaps a better cooler is in order? Maybe a faster fan(even if noisier)? I want to be helpful, kinda spit-balling though..

Picked up a couple of fun cards in the last few weeks for the collection, and something special on the way too!

Nvidia GeForce 6800GT 256M - luckily rev 1.02 as 1.00 and 1.01 apparently had terrible VRAM heatsinks that were prone to falling off! I wonder if she oc's to 6800U levels.

View attachment 356024

NVidia Quadro 6000 6G - seems to be a spec mixture of the GTX470 and GTX480, 448 cores but the full 384-bit bus and large VRAM buffer, will be interesting to see if the VRAM helps it hold up against newer titles.

I've never seen a 6800 GT which doesn't OC to Ultra clocks ;) interesting to see how a "GTX 470 6GB" would perform.

I may test later today as still having problems with the Z170 board, luckily I have four working 1155 boards (Asrock P67, Asus Z68, 2x Asus Z77) so at least I have boards for that 3770K.

Good news for the 6800GT then! and unfortunately I don't have a GTX470 to compare against, but I do have a 570 and 580 that may prove worthwhile to test it against. My GTX570 back in the day was a champ of an overclocker, so there is some hope for the Q6000, but the 570 is also based on the more refined and less power hungry GF110.

Lost the silicon lottery, my GTX 560 Ti isn't stable at 1GHz even with the max 1150mV :(

Put together a Win7 rig with i5-3470 @ 4GHz & 16GB RAM.

with geforce 4\500 series i had better luck going really small steps in voltage because there is a heat to oc ceiling arriving very quick .
5 degrees less and 1020mhz is stable but 5 more and 990mhz

Got my original S939 Venice 3000+ up and running. Luckily, both the Geil RAM and CPU survived when the PSU exploded, only the motherboard died. Running it on GA K8NF-9, will see how it overclocks. Have two E6 stepping CPUs, from what I've seen E3 are generally better, but alas...

Seriously? 1ghz is a bit pushing it for that GPU. If you're getting 960mhz you're lucky! The most I ever got from my 560 was 890mhz IIRC. The VRAM did better at 1120mhz(again IIRC).
There were even some models which came out with 1GHz factory OC out of the box, that's why I don't feel lucky with my card.

But yeah, 950MHz is fine. At least it's stable :)

Mine ran nicely at 2.7GHz (50%) OC with the stock cooler back in the day :)

Beats what I was able to get on my two Fermi cards in the day, a GTX460 and GTX570, 900mhz and 925mhz respectively. Although it makes sense GF114 could clock higher than GF104 and GF110. Remember when a x60 series card had a 256 bit bus?

Sorry the images don't work since TPU image hosting went down years ago.

Oh the days where overclocking gains from current hardware were awesome.

I had a Gigabyte GTX 470 SOC which OC'd to 830MHz after modifying its bios for higher voltages, if you don't count the power draw/temp, Fermi wasn't that bad after all. :)

Edit: I remember also 260 with its 448bit bus ;)

So far that seems to be the case for me as well (300FSB, x3 HTT, RAM at 400MHz). 2700MHz failed prime95 @1.5V vCore, but so far it's stable @1.525V (~1.55V in Windows). Temps seems to be just a bit above what's recommended, 57°C max (55°C is TJMAx from what I've read). Added +0.1V to chipset voltage. Might play around with RAM OCing later, after core stabilizes.

I'm interested how Burnout Paradise fares with the new OC. I remember playing it at 25 FPS on a 6600GT back in the day

My 560 Ti is also an Asus DCUII. A good card in overall what it comes to 560 series cards.

Burnout Paradise takes advantage of four threads. It ran perfectly well on my oc'd Phenom II X4. You'll be CPU bottlenecked with that Athlon 64, I'm afraid. On the GPU front, an HD7970 was able to max it out in 1920x1200 with 60+ fps.

Yeah, plus I'm hitting the 1GB RAM and 128MB VRAM limits as well. (720p Medium)

So far that seems to be the case for me as well (300FSB, x3 HTT, RAM at 400MHz). 2700MHz failed prime95 @1.5V vCore, but so far it's stable @1.525V (~1.55V in Windows). Final settings 2666MHz @1.55v (~1.58v in Windows). RAM wasn't cooperative when OCing, so I kept it as 190MHz instead of 200MHz default, with 1T command rate enabled. Passed Prime95 overnight, temps were around 55-58°C most of the time with max being 60°C.

Next week I'll probably test the other Venice sample, it's rev E6 as well

My favorite Youtuber released new video

I got some ingredients to build my own Windows 7 rig from spare parts; i5 4670k, Z87 mobo, HD6950 (that flashed to HD6970) but I don't have time to build it, too much work irl I barely play any games or do anything other than watch Youtube :banghead:

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
ohhhh another one i did not have ... a Manchester Athlon 64 X2 3800+ :D
20240729_160354.jpg20240729_160410.jpg

ok so, the Socket A mobo with the AMP 1600+ was an Asus A7N8X-X Nvidia nForce2 400 (i wrote nForce4 previously, i blame the low light in my garage and the 400 after the nForce2  )
20240729_155217.jpg

the S939 mobo is an Asus A8N-VM CSM Nvidia GeForce6150 Northbridge Nvidia nForce 430 MCP Southbridge
20240729_155208.jpg430.jpg

the AMP 1600+ was cooled by a slab of aluminium with an Arctic Cooling Super Silent 2000 on a reducter,
the A64 X2 by a Thermaltake full copper 4 heatpipes and also an Arctic cooling Arctic Fan Pro TC
dusty ... ewwww  (not worse than my XFX 8800 GTX with her hamster torturing crime scene of an axial fan ... :D )

can't find any other pics of that one ... it look like a Tt Polo 735 but with 4 heatpipes
