What's your latest tech purchase?

Trying to retire my spinning hard drives. they've been in service since 2015/16. Basically my steam games are spread over 3 drives. Some are on the old spinney drive because back in 2015/16 thats where I originally installed the steam folder. The two 2TB SN770s also have steam games on them....

So my theory is that if I can centralise my steam and steam games all on one drive. I can free up the two SN770s for other things that are currently stored on my spinney drive.

12 payments of £44p/m with no interest.

do you think the 8tb ssd will last 10years? i feel like they wont. hence why i have still kept the spinny bois around. Infact thinking of getting another spinny boi to update my storage

It will so long as I dont run out of space or it dies rather prematurely.

Im gonna slot it in right here away from the GPU so it will run pretty cool

What will annoy me even more is if the price of 8tb ssds drops to £300-400 before I finish paying for it

::edit::

Also January delivery.... I would have made two payments before I can have it in my hands

3x Superflower Megacool 140mm

As a follow up, 3x 140mm + 1x 120mm combined are quieter than a single fan this change removed. The sound of near silence is quite pleasant.

Amazon had them on sale $50 cheaper then my local computer shop

Stuff from Ali started to arrive: i7-2640M and 2x8GB DDR3 for an old hero (DELL N5110), 1x32GB DDR4 for Lenovo M720Q, fan assy for the Asus laptop, M.2 heatsniks, OBD scanner:IMG_20241129_135853382a.jpgIMG_20241129_191703311a.jpgIMG_20241202_180856324_HDRa.jpgIMG_20241202_180933390a.jpg

EDIT: results with the copper heatsink, SSD dropped from 52C to 42C, so 10C right off the bat. Thickness of the heatsink: 3mm.

Gotta get in there while its discounted. (These are TLC drives with 1000TBW???) - Most definitely not TLC. 4TB Samsung 870 Evos are have 2400TBW and those are DEFINTELY TLC. - I'm not even sure. I hope its TLC.

Samsung 870 Evo is like £255

::EDIT::

Actually, im not sure if they are TLC - Ive seen them being listed as TLC So im crossing my fingers in the hopes they are TLC and not just an spelling mistake.

::EDIT 2::

I did some research.... There are TWO SKUs of BX500 4TBs floating around.... A 'CT4000BX500SSD1' and an 'CT4000BX500SSD101' - The D1 should be QLC as reported by a Crucial rep..

Ive heard D101 is TLC but I wont know. until it gets here.

Don't the BX500's suffer from the same issue that plagues the MX500's, namely chip lottery? You never know what memory and/or controller you'll get.

Maybe, but they are for sure low-end QLC drives. Work fine though as long as they are properly over-provisioned.

I ran a 2TB at ~25% full as a boot drive for 3 years (with a big, well-used page file too) and it was at 98% health when I replaced the computer.

Pretty much yes. But Im aware of what Im getting into and dont really care too much as im not requiring them for anything like gaming and such. Just storage

I run two 2TB BX's and they have been fine. I never intend to get anywhere near their max capacity.

They are definitely not TLC. But thats fine.

Well, that missing fitting arrived today.

Guess I'll lose myself tomorrow after work transplanting the innards between cases (from the Level 20 MT to the 216) and building the custom loop.

I put my new High-Speed Mach 9+ Ejection Gamer Seat together today. I think it will make a good sleeper. Reclines 165°, lumbar support w/USB powered "massage"?, footrest and pillow, for the neck.
No beer holders but nice arm rests for sure.

For some reason your PC case reminds me of this:

Here's my extravagant Black Friday purchase from Micro Center:

A family member bought a new car without a CD player, so I bought two 32 GB flash drives from Micro Center for $8 total and ripped their CDs to it.

I recognize your keyboard! Someone in my family found one of those at Goodwill (non-US people: secondhand donation store) a year or so ago for around $5. It was very dirty but cleaned up nicely.

I didn't realize you an just plug a usb into your car to play music, hmm I am going to have to check my parents cars later and see if this is possible.

Some cars may have issues with large drives (larger than 4GB, I think?) so you may take that into consideration.

Before you rip your discs, make sure that you check what file formats the car's infotainment system will play. I tried to copy some .wma files and it didn't want to play them, so I had to go through the process of converting them with VLC.

The car in my case is brand-new so I didn't have any problems, but I could see that being an issue with older cars. If you have a whole bunch of spare CD-Rs lying around but no USB port, you can also make an "MP3 CD" if the car supports it:

Firsthand experience. My 2013 Citroën couldn't read a 8GB stick. Someone here suggested trying partitioning the drive, but I never tried it.

It is a 5950X and she's always been a hottie. It ran cool enough because I planned to go AIO if it ran too hot. But it ran the sims fine, the Noctua Chromax worked as is. Doesn't run any hotter than it did in the Corsair 450D case. This case has dual exhaust. Maybe that's the ticket??

I love these keyboards and naturally they quit making them. They're soft and quiet keys compared to clickity-clack mechanicals. I had 4 of them at one time. got 2 left still working. I like my Corsair K100 Air that's on the sim. Short stroke mechanical.
