Added a second NVMe m.2 1TB SSD. Temps at 70C in R23; thinking of swapping coolers from my X99 rig. The NOCTUA NH D15S cooler would be better suited to the i9 10980xe.

Update on the setups, I got new table feet so now I can have two desks with two rigs. 2nd rig has also a 10m HDMI cable so it's connected to my TV as well.
I'm kind of getting a grand theft auto vibe from that 2 desk setup. Not sure why.

Focus your photons on this master of gaming prowess which may lack colorful FPS-bestowing blinky substance but makes up for it with a functional style previously accessible only to Trabants, Ladas, and the occasional Fiat.

Optiplex 9020, i7-4790, 16GB 1600MHz CL11 Dell DDR3, Asus Phoenix 1050 Ti, 250GB 850 Evo boot, 960GB SU630 games. Been playin' Rocket League, AC: Ody, CP2077, RedDead2, Horizon ZD, a li'l Forza H4. It's a 900p Lo-Med experience for most, 1080p in FH4, 1440p in RL. Games are still fun to play though!

But don't worry.

I have another same-spec 9020 with a 500W PSU with... an 8-pin GPU power cable. The future is limitless!

Ehm, except for that damn drive cage. That sucka's comin' out so I can fit fatbutt GPUs in there.

Put together a system with stuff I had around to replace my old sandy laptop (which was never really used for laptop things).
Nothing fancy, just something with decent perf/watt and is very quiet.

Evga GTX 1050 2GB FTW
NZXT Lexa case
Rosewill 750W

Might find a cheap AM4 Mobo + DDR4 combo and put my old Ryzen 1700 in it instead, haven't decided yet.

Nothing to be scared of , its just LEGO for adults ! just don't start with an advanced hardline loop unless you are super patient and have a plan.

that is what I was referring to, a hard line loop

I always assumed its not worth going custom unless you do hard line. Maybe that was just something stuck in my head though I don't know

I would do soft tube when I do a loop. I move my pc around from time to time, hardlines seem like a bad idea for a guy like me..

And since I am here I might as well spew a couple out..

Going to have a fun day (/s) o_O today challenging my lateral thinking skills with this new combo build. Got try & make my old AM4 Cooler Master MA620P fit onto my new AM5 socket board whilst keeping the original backplate attached to the board - got to do that otherwise the retention mechanism will not work to hold the cpu intact. Not going with the original CM fans but have superior Cyrorig high air flow 2200rpm 120mm fans for that.
Checked out some YT videos & the consensus seems to be that only some original AM4 after market tower coolers will work on AM5 & some will not. Seems if the HS retention screw system has enough length the screw mechanism then all should bed good.. In the meantime here is a picture of the project... :(:)

To my understanding, hardline doesn't get any advantages over flexible other than aesthetics, and flexible has flexibility, much easier initial setup, also simpler maintenance and possible upgrades.

What happened here?

Looks like a burnt up zip tie grew some legs and fell flat on its face. The Great Escape FAIL!

You know what the weird thing is.... everytime i hear someone mention zip ties or i see one, "the Verge's" tweezers come to mind. Followed up by the allen key and that supposedly grounding rubber band lmao. Well if Zip ties are making a run for it, maybe the verge was onto something

Over time, the soft tube will probably evaporate more liquid compare to hardline, talking about completely insignificant amounts. +with soft tube is that you can make it possible to change cpu \ take of block without drain down the loop.

You change it up more often than the weather changes in May in Winnipeg lol

Looking like something McGyver have put together? wish i had picture of my first custom loop :) Minimal or no effort was put into the aesthetic :D

Ok, so now in relation to this post from yesterday & only a few posts above, managed to get the "unorthodox" approach to installing an AM4 capable tower cooler onto the AM5 platform without any help from Cooler Master for this particular product but at the same time keeping the original AM5 backplate intact & thus unremoved from the motherboard itself due to the 8 screw system that AMD have implemented for AM5 aka "Socket Actuation Mechanism".
I was fairly lucky that the Cooler Master HS mounting screw offsets actually matched the thread size of the AMD backplate screw holes. When I say "fairly lucky" I mean I tiny bit of resistance was encountered when screwing them in, due to the different thread pattern of the original AM5 screws. However I was able to get the HS nice n' firm so it won't fall over or lean when the whole motherboard is mounted vertically in a typical PC case. Checked all clearances & ensured HS is mounted nice n' square with enough pressure but not too much to prevent the cpu from crushing or warping the motherboard like has been seen in the early days of Intel's socket 1700 motherboards & their mounting systems for CPU HS.

The Cooler Master MA620P HS weighs about 850g but I also notice that the original stock AMD HS that came with my R7 7700 is not exactly a light weight either, with its substantial amount of copper they have built into the factory HS. So I'm betting that this unusual HS mount I've done will sit right & proper over the life cycle of this build. Happy to get it booting up then!

I suspect my G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32 GB 3600 MHz kit is faulty. Sudden BSOD today when just browsing: (either that or my CPU IMC!)
