Thanks for the feedback.
It took me ages to research it and come up with my own design.
I have wasted many hours flying around race tracks in that thing, it's a heap of fun

Hi Wile,
The racing cockpit is constructed from MDF mainly 18mm. The cockpit is designed to split in 2 to make it easier to store. The base is fitted with HD fixed casters.
The hardest part was finding a good seat. Once I settled on the standard fiberglass racing seat I was then able to design the entire cockpit around it.

It's not as heavy as it looks. The reason for the side cut outs was to reduce weight and the unit splits in 2. I can easily lift both the base and the nose on my own and moving the base is made even easier with the use of casters.

When I first read your feedback I absolutely cracked up.

But you know what it's not a bad idea. I already have mains power wired into the cockpit so adding lights and other accessories is piss easy.

Anyone else got any further mod suggestions for my cockpit. What other goodies apart from neon lights under the cockpit would you add?

Now there is a cracking idea :)
I imagine it would cost me a heap as I would need 2 video cards.
Having said that I cam across a site on the weekend that makes custom gauges and controls setups for racing cockpits.

All I will say is, WATCH THIS SPACE :)

My son absolutely loves it and for a 4 year old he is not to shabby behind the wheel.

Unfortunately he cant reach the pedals just yet which is a good thing otherwise I would never get him out of it :)

you could get some of those rumble things that you hook up to car stereos that rumble the seats and tune them so u could get some realistic engine vibrations

My pedals are on adjustable slides, I don't want to make my seat adjustable as then my son would be able to play in it by himself, can't have that then I won't get to play.....lol

Yep, got one of those. seat shaker is fitted to the back of the seat with the amp sitting my my right side. I don't use it that often but it does give a good rumbling effect

instead of having the chair fixed to the frame you could have the pistons (electrical, kind of springs and damper parts) fixed to the frame and the chair on to them, by setting them up as a cross the concept is to make it work as a joystick in reverse action, meaning that when you turn the wheel to the right you 'll get a force feedback on the chair forcing it to an angle to the right... the idea is practicaly the same as it is used in coin-op arcade games... try... www.immersion.com/gaming/video_pc/next-gen/
