The Original DOOM and DOOM II See Relaunch on Windows with Crossplay and 4K 120 FPS Support

The original DOOM and DOOM II were relaunched as a package deal by ZeniMax late last week. This sees the two games wrapped around a new Windows executable that includes high resolution texture remasters (though it still looks quite blocky), along with online multiplayer, Crossplay support, and a 16:9 viewport that supports 4K resolution with 120 frames per second. This wouldn't be the first such "re-launch" by Bethesda, the parent publisher of ZeniMax, the company re-launched DOOM and DOOM II as separate games on Steam and Microsoft Store in 2019, with a modern Windows executable with WASD controls, a 16:9 viewport, "HD" textures, and the original MIDI background score pre-rendered as PCM. Both the 2019 and this new 2024 re-releases are fully compatible with the latest Windows 11, and don't need any emulators.

The 2024 re-launch includes all episodes of DOOM, DOOM II, all public mods, and a new first-party DOOM episode called "Legacy of Rust," created by community members who worked at id Software. This episode also includes some new weapons, such as a flamethrower. You also get a new Remixed background score. You can select between this, a pre-rendered original soundtrack, a pre-rendered Yamaha OPL3 FM synth soundtrack, or get the game to use a MIDI device. The DOOM + DOOM II 2024 release is available on GOG, Steam, EGS, and Microsoft Store for $9.99.

Titan Army Gaming Monitors Start Selling in the US

Titan Army is a Chinese gaming monitor brand that's been making waves in Asia due to their incredible value for the features on offer. The company uses Fast IPS and curved VA panels to offer resolutions and refresh rates from a segment above, at a given price range. The brand is now making inroads to the US market, and is now available on Amazon. The company dipped its toes into the US market with three well priced monitor models.

At the top, is the B0CKVPB31C, a 32-inch curved 16:9 monitor with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate, 95% DCI-P3 coverage, 1500R curvature, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium Plus. All this, for $299. At the same price, the company is also selling the B0CKVL7KMZ, a 27-inch flatscreen monitor with the same WQHD resolution as its 32-inch curved sibling, but with faster 180 Hz refresh rate using a Fast IPS panel. For under $200, the company is selling the B0CKVL38N5, a 24-inch flatscreen with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, but with 100 Hz fresh rate using a Fast IPS panel. InnoLux Hopes 38-inches is the New 32-inches for 4K Gaming Monitors

There's no shortage of ultra wide 38-inch panels in the market, but InnoLux is hoping that there's a market for a 38-inch 4K panel in the more traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. The panel is based on InnoLux Azimuthal Anchoring Switch technology, also known as AAS, which is an IPS like panel type. The panel supports up to 144 Hz refresh rate, as well as a 5 ms grey to grey response time, in other words, very similar to smaller 4K IPS based displays.

Other features include support for HDR 600—which seems to be slowly replacing HDR 400 as the standard in the mid-range gaming monitor space—and support for 98 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. For those wanting some more tangible measurements, the active area of the panel measures 841 x 473 mm (rounded to nearest full digit), suggesting it's a full 20 centimeters wider and roughly 15 centimeters taller than your average 27-inch 4K display panel.

XMG Introduces PRO and FOCUS Laptops with i9-13900HX and RTX 4070

With the new PRO and the FOCUS (E23), XMG introduces two laptop series on a similar hardware basis: Both feature Intel's Core i9-13900HX and NVIDIA graphics cards up to the GeForce RTX 4070. While the PRO 15 and PRO 17 are slightly thinner as gaming workstations and boast more extensive connectivity, the FOCUS scores at a more affordable price and is not only available in 15.6 and 17.3-inch versions, but also in a 16-inch format. The key components found in the new XMG PRO 15 and PRO 17 as well as the XMG FOCUS 15, FOCUS 16 and FOCUS 17 are almost identical. All laptops employ Intel's Core i9-13900HX with 24 cores (8 P-cores, 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. The freely configurable graphics card options each include NVIDIA's new, DLSS-3-capable GeForce RTX 4050 (FOCUS only) as well as 4060 and 4070 (FOCUS and PRO) with a maximum graphics power rating of up to 140 watts (115 watts TGP plus 25 watts Dynamic Boost 2.0). However, since the clock behaviour and the actual power consumption of the GPUs in the new generation are subject to much more restrictive, application-specific specifications from NVIDIA, the maximum values are only achieved in synthetic stress tests such as Furmark - according to the official requirements of the graphics chip manufacturer.

AOC Launches the AG273QX Gaming Monitor: 27" VA, 2560 x 1440, 165 Hz, FreeSync 2, HDR 400

AOC today launched the AG273QX, a flat panel gaming monitor (meaning there is no curve, which makes sense due to the usual 16:9 aspect ratio). The AG273QX sports a 27" diagonal with a VA panel, sporting a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a 165 Hz refresh rate. This refresh rate is mated with support for AMD's FreeSync 2, which makes an appearance due to this monitor also being HDR capable - though at the lowest end of the spectrum, with its HDR 400 certification. With its 1 ms response time, this monitor seems to have all the claims to fame. Sadly, it only sticks to the Adobe sRGB color space with 99% coverage - no DCIP-3 here.

FreeSync 2 HDR means this monitor supports low-latency HDR tone mapping, and LFC (Low Framerate Compensation). AOC are pushing this as a 3-side frameless design, which means that the display should go all the way towards the bezels. If you want to carry this monitor to LAN parties, there's a carrying handle, and the monitor also sports double headset holders in the design. There's an RGB lighting ring on the back of the panel. Connectivity-wise this monitor sports a 4x USB 3.0 HUB, 1x Headphone out, and video inputs are taken care of by 1x VGA, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, and  1x HDMI 2.0. The AOC AGON AG273QX will be available in November 2019 at an MSRP of £439 / €489.

GIGABYTE Announces the AORUS KD25F Gaming Monitor

GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd, a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, launched a tactical monitor made for FPS gamers, the AORUS KD25F Tactical Monitor. AORUS KD25F is a 24.5 inch Full HD (1920x1080 resolution, 16:9 ratio) monitor using a TN panel with ultra-fast liquid crystal technology which increases the panel response rate up to 70% giving the panel have an incredible response time of 0.5ms (MPRT). Along with a 240 Hz refresh rate, this monitor is the perfect monitor for FPS gaming as gamers will love the smoothness and responsiveness of the monitor. Also, this TN panel is an 8-bit panel with 100% sRGB which is really rare for an TN panel since TN panels are known for their bad color. Want to have the perfect FPS experience with excellent color? KD25F is your answer.

AORUS KD25F shares the same design as the World's First Tactical Monitor AD27QD. Digital LED lighting, the full function stand, frameless design, and a built-in power board are the same as the first monitor. PiP/PbP can put 2 pictures in one screen and you can switch the audio channel to the source you want, making this monitor extra flexible for different needs. The hardware itself is amazing enough but the addition of its software features makes it incredible. Aim Stabilizer, customized crosshair, the exclusive ANC function, having all of these features in a monitor like this makes you the king of the battlefield.

Acer Announces XZ1-Series of FreeSync, Curved Gaming Monitors - VA WQHD, 144 Hz, HDR10 Ready

Acer has announced two incoming budget-yet-premium gaming monitors to power AMD's FreeSync-supporting graphics cards. The new XZ1 series will come in 27" (XZ271U) and 31.5" (XZ321QU), thus appealing to two different market segments. The new monitors both sport a 144 Hz, 1 ms, 16:9 VA panel with WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution. Both are curved affairs; contrast stands at 3000:1; color coverage is at 85% of the NTSC color-space; and we're saying they are HDR10 ready because with their maximum brightness of 250 and 300 cd/m², respectively, they'll never be able to showcase the tiniest amount of HDR10 detail. Like the initial HD ready TVs which only supported 720p resolution but could process higher-density images, so does this HDR10 badge not mean there's an actual ability to properly display HDR10 content as it was meant to be.

Connectivity stands at 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x mini DisplayPort 1.2, and 2x HDMI 2.0 headers. There are two 7 W stereo speakers and a headphone jack in each monitor, as well as a quad-port USB 3.0 Type-A hub. The stands can tilt between -5 to 25 degrees, swivel +/- 25 degrees, and provide height adjustments of up to 120 mm. Both panels can now be purchased at Amazon.com, with pricing set at $527 and $550 respectively (not final retail pricing for the Americas).
