TechPowerUp Releases GPU-Z v2.60.0

TechPowerUp has released version 2.60.0 of GPU-Z, a popular graphics sub-system information, monitoring, and diagnostic utility. This latest update brings significant enhancements, including full support for the Arm64 architecture and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite GPUs. The release also adds support for AMD Zen 5 CPU temperature monitoring and a wide range of new GPUs from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel. Notable additions include the NVIDIA 4070 Ti Super (AD102), RTX 4070 (AD103), RTX 4060 Ti (AD104), RTX 4060 (AD106), as well as AMD Zen 5 (Strix Point and Granite Ridge), and Intel Raptor Lake U SKUs and Meteor Lake Intel Arc Graphics.

NVIDIA Plans RTX 3050 A with Ada Lovelace AD106 Silicon

NVIDIA may be working on a new RTX 3050 A laptop GPU using an AD106 (Ada Lovelace) die, moving away from the Ampere chips used in other RTX 30-series GPUs. While not officially announced, the GPU is included in NVIDIA's latest driver release and the PCI ID database as GeForce RTX 3050 A Laptop GPU. The AD106 die choice is notable, as it has more transistors and CUDA cores than the GA107 in current RTX 3050s and the AD107 in RTX 4050 laptops. The AD106, used in RTX 4060 Ti desktop and RTX 4070 laptop GPUs, boasts 22.9 billion transistors and 4,608 CUDA cores, compared to GA107's 8.7 billion transistors and 2,560 CUDA cores, and AD107's 18.9 billion transistors and 3,072 CUDA cores.

While this could potentially improve performance, it's likely that NVIDIA will use a cut-down version of the AD106 chip for the RTX 3050 A. The exact specifications and features, such as support for DLSS 3, remain unknown. The use of TSMC's 4N node in AD106, instead of Samsung's 8N node used in Ampere, could potentially improve power efficiency and battery life. The performance of the RTX 3050 A compared to existing RTX 3050 and RTX 4050 laptops remains to be seen, however, the RTX 3050 A will likely perform similarly to existing Ampere-based parts as NVIDIA tends to use similar names for comparable performance levels. It's unclear if NVIDIA will bring this GPU to market, but adding new SKUs late in a product's lifespan isn't unprecedented.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, 4060 Ti & 4070 GPU Refreshes Spotted in Leak

NVIDIA completed its last round of GeForce NVIDIA RTX 40-series GPU refreshes at the very end of January—new evidence suggests that another wave is scheduled for imminent release. MEGAsizeGPU has acquired and shared a tabulated list of new Ada Lovelace GPU variants—the trusted leaker's post presents a timetable that was supposed to kick off within the second half of this month. First up is the GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, with a current designation of AD104-251—the leaked table suggests that a new variant, AD103-175-KX, is due very soon (or overdue). Wccftech pointed out that the new ID was previously linked to NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER SKU. Moving into April, next up is the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti—jumping from the current AD106-351 die to a new unit; AD104-150-KX. The third adjustment (allegedly) affects the GeForce RTX 4060—going from AD107-400 to AD106-255, also timetabled for next month. MEGAsizeGPU reckons that Team Green will be swapping chips, but not rolling out broadly adjusted specifications—a best case scenario could include higher CUDA, RT, and Tensor core counts. According to VideoCardz, the new die designations have popped up in freshly released official driver notes—it is inferred that the variants are getting an "under the radar" launch treatment.

Colorful Reveals "Year of the Dragon" GeForce RTX 4060 Ti & 4060 Limited Editions

Colorful has prepared a small selection of custom GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and GeForce RTX 4060 (non-Ti) graphics cards in celebration of the Chinese New Year (February 24). Its high-end iGame Series has been updated with "Loong Edition" models—all of these cards are overclocked straight out of the factory. The Colorful English language site has sub-brand product entries for a GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB option, as well as the usual GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, plus GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB cards. 2024's zodiac animal is the Wood Dragon, so Colorful has adorned their limited edition "Loong" cards with this fearsome yet wise mythical creature—the graphic spreads across shrouds and backplates, and even features prominently on the special iGame packaging/outer box.

Colorful has a history of producing iGame Series GeForce RTX graphics with different designs—the standard "Ultra White" cooling solution design has been updated a few times in the recent past (as reported by VideoCardz). Referring to TPU's well maintained GPU database, we see the latest "Year of the Dragon" models joining the already established ranks of last year's "Wushan Five Elements Customized Editions" and iGame RTX 4060 Ti "Fog Hill of Five Elements" Customized Edition OC (in collaboration with Samsara Animation Studio). The Colorful iGame Loong Edition cards have prices listed at 3799 RMB (~$536) for the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB option, 3449 RMB (~$487) for the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, and 2699 RMB (~$381) for the GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB. Sales are region restricted to China—this is Colorful's modus operandi, so buyers outside of China will have to jump through a few extra import hoops.

NVIDIA Cancels GeForce RTX 4090 Ti, Next-Gen Flagship to Feature 512-bit Memory Bus

NVIDIA has reportedly shelved plans in the short term to release the rumored GeForce RTX 4090 Ti flagship graphics card, according to Kopite7kimi, a reliable source with NVIDIA leaks. This card had been extensively leaked over the past few months as featuring a cinder block-like 4-slot thickness, and a unique PCB that's along the plane of the motherboard, rather than perpendicular to it. From the looks of it, sales and competition in the high-end/halo segment are too slow, the current RTX 4090 remains the fastest graphics card you can buy, and the company seems unfazed by the alleged Radeon RX 7950 series, given that AMD has already maxed out the "Navi 31" silicon, and there are only so many things the red team can try, to beat the RTX 4090.

That said, the company is reportedly planning more SKUs based on the AD103 and AD106 silicon. The AD103 powers the GeForce RTX 4080, which nearly maxes it out. The AD104 has been maxed out by the RTX 4070 Ti, and there could be a gap between the RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 4080 that AMD could try to exploit by competitively pricing its RX 7900 series, and certain upcoming SKUs. This creates scope for new SKUs based on cut-down AD103 and the GPU's 256-bit memory bus. The AD106 is nearly maxed out with the RTX 4060 Ti, however there's still room to unlock its last remaining TPC, use faster GDDR6X memory, and attempt to slim the vast gap between the RTX 4060 Ti and the RTX 4070.

ASUS has a GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Card with an M.2 SSD Slot

ASUS Chinese GM—Tony Yu—has shown off a graphics card concept on Bilibili that has a rather unusual feature, a slot for an M.2 NVMe SSD. The card is based on NVIDIA's GeForce RT 4060 Ti GPU and although not all details are clear at this point in time, but ASUS is taking advantage of the unused PCIe lanes on the card, since the AD106 GPU only uses eight PCIe lanes, the PCIe connector on the card has space for a further eight lanes. In theory ASUS could have added a pair of SSDs, since there are a total of eight lanes available, but as this was just a proof of concept, they seemingly stuck with a single SSD.

It's unclear if ASUS relies on bifurcation or if the company has added some kind of bridge chip, but bifurcation makes more sense, as a bridge chip would add a lot more cost. The neat thing with the NVMe drive being on the GPU, is that it also connects to the heatsink of the graphics card, which means the cooling should be rather good. However, for this to work properly, the SSD would have to be mounted back to front compared to how it would be mounted on a motherboard. Based on the test results, the SSD runs at a cool 42 degrees C, even when the GPU is being stress tested. It's likely that this product will not make it to markets outside of China, if it's ever launched into retail.

TechPowerUp today released the latest version of TechPowerUp GPU-Z, the popular graphics sub-system information, monitoring, data-logging, and diagnostic tool for gamers, PC enthusiasts, overclockers, and engineers. The latest version 2.54.0 adds support for new graphics cards, and has several improvements that we're sure you'll find useful. Among the new NVIDIA GPUs supported are the GeForce RTX 4060, RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 3060 (based on GA104-B), RTX 3050 Laptop GPU 4 GB, RTX 3050 Mobile 6 GB (based on GA107-B), 40-2Q, L4, RTX A500 Mobile, RTX 2000 Ada Mobile, RTX 4000 SFF Ada, RTX 5000 Ada Mobile. The new AMD GPUs supported include Radeon RX 7600, Pro W7800, W7900, E8860, Ryzen Phoenix Radeon 7x0M, and Ryzen Z1 Extreme. The new Intel GPUs supported include Arc Pro A60, A60M, Flex 140, Iris Xe Max 100, additional Raptor Lake iGPU variants. Vendor support is added for Sparkle (Intel Arc board partner).

With this release, we've added the ability to monitor and log the real-time video memory read/write bandwidth usage for Intel Arc GPUs. Power monitoring for Intel Arc GPUs was broken after a recent driver update, this is fixed now. We've also improved the video codec capability detection in the DXVA section of the Advanced tab, for all GPUs. The XML Dump output file now includes GPU transistor-count and release date. Leadtek Intros GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Hurricane Graphics Card

Leadtek today introduced the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Hurricane graphics card. The card features Leadtek's latest generation WinFast Hurricane cooling solution, with a 3-slot thick cooler that uses an aluminium fin-stack heatsink that's ventilated by a pair of 100 mm fans. The card comes with NVIDIA-reference clock speeds of 2535 MHz boost, and 18 Gbps memory. Based on the 5 nm AD106 silicon, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti features 4,352 CUDA cores, 136 Tensor cores, 34 RT cores, 136 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. This particular card is configured with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface. The card uses a single 8-pin PCIe power connector.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti to Feature a PCI-Express 4.0 x8 Bus Interface

NVIDIA has traditionally refrained from lowering the PCIe lane counts on its mid-range GPUs, doing so only with its most entry-level SKUs, however, this is about to change with the GeForce RTX 40-series. A VideoCardz report says that the upcoming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, based on the AD106 silicon, comes with a host interface of PCI-Express 4.0 x8.

While this is still plenty of interface bandwidth for a GPU of this market segment, with bandwidth comparable to that of PCI-Express 3.0 x16, using the RTX 4060 Ti on older platforms, such as 10th Gen Intel Core "Comet Lake," or even much newer processors such as the AMD Ryzen 5700G "Cezanne," would run the GPU at PCI-Express 3.0 x8, as the GPU physically lacks the remaining 8 lanes. The lower PCIe lane count should simplify board design for AIC partners, as it reduces the PCB traces and SMDs associated with each individual PCIe lane. Much like DRAM chip traces, PCIe traces are meticulously designed by EDA software (and later validated), to be of equal length across all lanes, for signal integrity.

NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti 16GB Model Features 5W Higher TDP, Slightly Different ASIC Code

NVIDIA is launching 8 GB and 16 GB variants of its upcoming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card, with the 8 GB model debuting later this month, and the 16 GB model slated for July, as we learned in an older article. We are learning what else sets the two apart. Both are based on the 5 nm "AD106" silicon, by enabling 34 out of 36 SM physically present on the silicon, which works out to 4,352 out of 4,608 CUDA cores present. While the 8 GB model has the ASIC code "AD106-350," the 16 GB model gets the ASIC code "AD106-351."

The 16 GB model of the RTX 4060 Ti also has a slightly higher TDP, rated at 165 W, compared to 160 W of the 8 GB model. This is the TDP of the silicon, and not TGP (typical graphics power,) which takes into account power drawn by the entire board. The 16 GB model is sure to have a higher TGP on account of its higher-density memory. NVIDIA is likely to use four 32 Gbit (4 GB) GDDR6 memory chips to achieve 16 GB (as opposed to eight 16 Gbit ones with two chips piggybacked per 32-bit path).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Available as 8 GB and 16 GB, This Month. RTX 4060 in July

In what could explain the greater attention by leaky taps on the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti compared to its sibling, the RTX 4060, NVIDIA is preparing a staggered launch for its RTX 4060-series. We're also learning that there are as many as three SKUs in the series—the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, and the RTX 4060. All three will be announced later this month, however, only the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB will be available to purchase at the time. The RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB and RTX 4060 will be available from July.

At this point, little is known about what segments the 8 GB and 16 GB variants of the RTX 4060 Ti besides memory size. The RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB is rumored to feature 34 out of 36 streaming multiprocessors (SM) physically present on the 5 nm "AD106" silicon, which gives NVIDIA some theoretical headroom to enable a few more shaders. These 34 work out to 4,352 CUDA cores, while a fully unlocked AD106 has 4,608. The RTX 4060 is a significantly different SKU that's based on a maxed out "AD107" silicon, with 30 SM, or 3,840 CUDA cores, although it should be possible for some RTX 4060 cards be based on a heavily cut-down AD106.

Retail Leak of Custom GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Models Reconfirms Standard 8 GB VRAM Config

NVIDIA is expected to roll out its RTX 4060 Ti GPU series later this month but the American hardware giant has not issued any official material about these cards - leaks have so far become the only sources of specification and configuration information. A launch price of $450 is mooted, and the low-to-midrange RTX 4060 Ti is likely to sport NVIDIA's AD106 GPU (based on its Ada Lovelace graphics architecture). Previous leaks have indicated that this variant will be offered in an 8 GB VRAM configuration with a 128-bit memory interface, although TPU hardware archivist (T4C Fantasy) reckons that NVIDIA's board partners can opt for larger pools of video memory.

A retailer in Russia has released (possibly in error) catalog listings for four upcoming Palit branded GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card models. The board partner seems to be offering two sets of its Dual and StormX designs - in normal and overclocked variations - but all of these models share the bog standard VRAM allocation of 8 GB, paired with the usual 128-bit memory interface. Palit's Dual cooler design is currently available on its RTX 4070-based models, but the StormX cooling solution design has not been applied to any 40 series cards so far - the upcoming RTX 4060 Ti cards will debut a (likely) smaller StormX shroud, heatsink and fan combination.

NVIDIA AD106 Silicon Powering RTX 4060 Series, Smiles for the Camera

Here is one of the first pictures of the 5 nm "AD106" GPU powering the upcoming GeForce RTX 4060 series graphics cards NVIDIA plans to launch in May 2023. The substrate of the AD106 looks visibly smaller than that of the AD104, thanks to its lower pin-count. It is expected that the AD106 will feature a 128-bit wide GDDR6/X memory interface, and since the TGP of graphics cards based on the chip are expected to be well under the 200 W-mark, it doesn't need as many power delivery pins. The specific ASIC code for the AD106 in this picture, AD106-350-A1, reportedly corresponds to the upcoming desktop GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.

Interestingly, the desktop RTX 4060 Ti doesn't max out the AD106. That distinction goes to the RTX 4070 Mobile, which enables all 36 SM (streaming multiprocessors) present on the silicon, which work out to 4,608 CUDA cores. The desktop RTX 4060 Ti enables 32 out of these 36 SM, and hence lands itself 4,352 CUDA cores, 128 Tensor cores, 32 RT cores, 128 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. 8 GB is the standard memory size for both the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 Come with 8GB : Leaked MSI Prebuilt Listing

NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060, expected to make for a twin-launch in May 2023, will come with 8 GB as the standard memory size. This was confirmed in screenshots of a leaked listing of an MSI pre-built gaming desktop. The upcoming MSI MAG Infinite S3 comes with GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 GPU options, both of which have been mentioned in the listing as featuring 8 GB of graphics memory. The CPU options span between the Intel Core i5-13400F and the i7-13700F. 16 GB (2x 8 GB) main memory, and 1 TB SSD are the other standard equipment.

An 8 GB memory size confirms the 128-bit memory interface of the "AD106" silicon the RTX 4060 series is expected to be based on. 8 GB would actually be a downgrade compared to the current RTX 3060, which offers 12 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 192-bit memory bus. To be fair, the RTX 3060 Ti gives you just 8 GB of memory (albeit over a 256-bit wide memory bus). With the "Ada" graphics architecture powering the RTX 40-series, NVIDIA has significantly redesigned the memory sub-system of the GPU, with greater design emphasis on large on-die caches, so the GPU relies less on discrete memory bandwidth.

NVIDIA to Target $450 Price-point with GeForce RTX 4060 Ti

NVIDIA is preparing its fifth GeForce RTX 40-series "Ada" graphics card launch in May 2023, with the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. Red Gaming Tech reports that the company could target the USD $450 price-point with this SKU, putting it $150 below the recently launched RTX 4070, and $350 below the RTX 4070 Ti. The RTX 4060 Ti is expect to nearly max-out the 5 nm "AD106" silicon, the same one that powers the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. While the notebook chip maxes it out, featuring all 4,608 CUDA cores physically present across its 36 SM, the desktop RTX 4060 Ti will be slightly cut down, featuring 34 SM, which work out to 4,352 CUDA cores. The "AD106" silicon features a 128-bit wide memory interface, and NVIDIA is expected to use conventional 18 Gbps-rated GDDR6 memory chips. The design goal behind the RTX 4060 Ti could be to beat the previous-generation RTX 3070, and to sneak up on the RTX 3070 Ti, while offering greater energy efficiency, and new features such as DLSS 3.

Colorful Custom RTX 4060 Ti GPU Clocks Outed, 8 GB VRAM Confirmed

Resident TechPowerUp hardware database overseer T4C Fantasy has divulged some early information about a custom version of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GPU card - Colorful's catchily named iGame RTX 4060 Ti Ultra White OC model has been added to the TPU GPU database, and T4C Fantasy has revealed a couple of tidbits on Twitter. The GPU has been tuned to have a maximum boost clock of 2580 MHz, jumping from a base clock of 2310 MHz. According to past leaks the reference version of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti has a default boost clock of 2535 MHz, so Colorful's engineers have managed to add another 45 MHz on top of that with their custom iteration - so roughly 2% more than the reference default.

T4C Fantasy also confirmed that the Colorful iGame RTX 4060 Ti Ultra W OC will be appointed with 8 GB of VRAM, which also matches the reference model's rumored memory spec. T4C Fantasy points out that brands have the option to produce RTX 4060 Ti cards with a larger pool of attached video memory, but launch models will likely stick with the standard allotment of 8 GB of VRAM. The RTX 4060 Ti is listed as being based on the Ada Lovelace GPU architecture (GPU variant AD106-350-A1), and T4C Fantasy expects that Team Green will stick with a 5 nm process size - contrary to reports of a transition to manufacturing on 4 nm (chez TSMC foundries).

NVIDIA Prepares GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 Launches in May 2023

It looks like Spring-Summer will see NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40-series get a rapid ramp up to high-volume market segments. In April, the company is planning to release the GeForce RTX 4070, which should hold the performance-segment end of things, albeit at an eye-watering $750 rumored price. May 2023 could see NVIDIA come out with two product launches before the 2023 Computex; the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, and the RTX 4060.

Both the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 are expected to be based on the "AD106" silicon, which is expected to have around 36 streaming multiprocessors (4,608 CUDA cores, 144 Tensor cores, 36 RT cores, 144 TMUs, 48 ROPs); and a 128-bit wide memory interface. NVIDIA is expected to use 18 Gbps-rated conventional GDDR6 memory chips with these SKUs, which should lower costs (for the company) in comparison to the more exotic 19 Gbps GDDR6X.

Pictures of the Never-Released RTX 4070 Ti Founders Edition, RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition, and RTX 4060 Founders Edition Emerge

When NVIDIA got around to release the $800 GeForce RTX 4070 Ti "Ada" (originally meant to launch as the RTX 4080 12 GB); an NVIDIA Founders Edition product based on this chip was conspicuous in its absence. A tech enthusiast who goes by "KittyYYuko" on Twitter posted pictures of what they claim to be the never-released RTX 4070 Ti Founders Edition; and upcoming RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060. The claim begins to check out as we're shown a picture of a graphics card PCB with the distinct Founders Edition shape, which has an "AD104" ASIC, and a 16-pin 12VHPWR connector, along with 8 memory pads, two of which are unoccupied (matches the 192-bit memory interface of the RTX 4070 Ti).

We are shown two other cards, the RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition, and the RTX 4060 Founders Edition. These are expected to be positioned below the RTX 4070 that the company plans to launch in April. The Founders Edition boards are visibly smaller than even the RTX 3080 Founders Edition, although they stick to the dual-axial flow-through design of that card. "AD106" based graphics cards are expected to have typical graphics power (TGP) values well under the 250 W-mark, for which this cooler looks adequate, considering that the sheet-metal of the heatsink has been pushed to the very edges of the card. The cards could include power adapters that convert no more than two 8-pin PCIe to a 16-pin 12VHPWR with a 300 W power limit.

NVIDIA Readying 10GB, 12GB, and 16GB Variants of RTX 4070? GIGABYTE Thinks So

NVIDIA is possibly readying three memory-based variants of the upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 "Ada" performance-segment graphics card, suggests a GIGABYTE leak. The company put up a game bundle information page on its website, which inadvertently leaked the three RTX 4070 variants in its "eligibility" section; so this is slightly more credible than a case of GIGABYTE anticipating NVIDIA SKUs with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) in its regulatory filings. The leak mentions three distinct SKUs—RTX 4070 10 GB, RTX 4070 12 GB, and RTX 4070 16 GB. The predecessors of the RTX 4070 tended to be NVIDIA's bestselling graphics cards each generation, next to the xx60 series.

The billion-dollar question hence would be exactly how NVIDIA segments the three SKUs—whether it stops at just memory size and memory bus width; or whether it will also tinker with core-configuration, and possibly even base one of the three SKUs on a physically smaller silicon, such as the AD106. The "RTX 4070" rumored to be a single SKU until now, was expected to be carved out of the AD104, with 5,888 out of 7,680 CUDA cores being enabled. NVIDIA faced stiff criticism from the media and gamers for such segmentation for its RTX 4080 16 GB and RTX 4080 12 GB, with the company being forced to cancel the market-release of the latter, and relaunch it under the name RTX 4070 Ti.

Alleged NVIDIA AD106 GPU Tested in 3DMark and AIDA64

Benchmarks and specifications of an alleged NVIDIA AD106 GPU have tipped up on Chiphell, although the original poster has since removed all the details. Thanks to @harukaze5719 on Twitter, who posted the details, we still get an insight into what we might be able to expect from NVIDIA's upcoming mid-range cards. All these details should be taken as is, as the original source isn't exactly what we'd call trustworthy. Based on the data in the TPU GPU database, the GPU in question should be the GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile with much higher clock speeds or an equivalent desktop part that offers more CUDA cores than the RTX 4060 Ti. Whatever the specific AD106 GPU is, it's being compared to the GeForce RTX 2080 Super and the RTX 3070 Ti.

The GPU was tested in AIDA64 and 3DMark and it beats the RTX 2080 Super in all of the tests, while drawing some 55 W less power at the same time. In some of the benchmarks the wins are within the margin of testing error, for example when it comes to the memory performance in AIDA64. However, we're looking at a GPU connected to only half the memory bandwidth here, as the AD106 GPU only has a 128-bit memory bus, compared to 256-bit for the RTX 2080 Super, although the memory clocks are much higher, but the overall memory bandwidth is still nearly 36 percent higher in the RTX 2080 Super. Yet, the AD106 GPU manages to beat the RTX 2080 Super in all of the memory benchmarks in AIDA64.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Possible Specs Surface—160 W Power, Debuts AD106 Silicon

NVIDIA's next GeForce RTX 40-series "Ada" graphics card launch is widely expected to be the GeForce RTX 4070 (non-Ti), and as we approach Spring 2023, the company is expected to ramp up to the meat of its new generation, with xx60-segment, beginning with the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. This new performance-segment SKU debuts the 4 nm "AD106" silicon. A set of leaks by kopite7kimi, a reliable source with NVIDIA leaks, shed light on possible specifications.

The RTX 4060 Ti is based on the AD106 silicon, which is expected to be much smaller than the AD104 powering the RTX 4070 series. The reference board developed at NVIDIA, codenamed PG190, is reportedly tiny, and yet it features the 16-pin ATX 12VHPWR connector. This is probably set for 300 W at its signal pins, and adapters included with graphics cards could convert two 8-pin PCIe into one 300 W 16-pin connector. The RTX 4060 Ti is expected to come with a typical graphics power value of 160 W.

At its 2023 International CES event, NVIDIA is expected to launch not just its desktop GeForce RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards, but more importantly, also its GeForce RTX 40-series Laptop GPU series powering next-generation gaming notebooks based on the upcoming 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" processors. NVIDIA seems to be making a very tight rope-walk between power-management and generational performance increase in this power- and thermal-constrained form-factor. Wccftech scored a major scoop on the specs of various RTX 40-series Laptop GPUs.

The GeForce RTX 40-series "Ada" Laptop GPU lineup will be led by the RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, based on the 4 nm "AD103" silicon (same one that powers the desktop RTX 4080). It will be equipped with 16 GB of memory, a yet-unknown core-configuration, GPU Boost frequencies of up to 2.04 GHz, and typical power draw ranging between 150 W to 175 W, which can peak up to 200 W thanks to the 25 W dynamic boost range (power permissible by the platform if the other components such as CPU aren't drawing their peak power).

While NVIDIA has launched high-end GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 GPUs from its Ada Lovelace family, middle and lower-end products are brewing to satisfy the entire consumer market. Today, according to the kopite7kimi, a well-known leaker, we have potential information about the configuration of the upcoming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card. Featuring 4352 FP32 CUDA cores, the GPU is powered by an AD106-350-A1 die. On the die, there is 32 MB of L2 cache. To pair, it has 8 GB of GDDR6 18 Gbps memory, which should be enough to power games at 1440p resolution, which this card is aiming for.

The design of the cards reference PG190 PCB is supposedly very short, making it ideal for ITX-sized designs we could see from NVIDIA's AIB partners. Interestingly, with a TDP of 220 Watts, the reference card is powered by the infamous 16-pin 12VHPWR connector, capable of supplying 600 Watts of power. This choice of connector is unclear; however, it could be NVIDIA's push to standardize its usage across all products in the Ada Lovelace family stack. While the card should not need the full potential of the connector, it signals that the company could only be using this type of connector for all of its future designs.

NVIDIA Plans GeForce RTX 4060 Launch for Summer 2023, Performance Rivaling RTX 3070

NVIDIA is reportedly planning to ramp its GeForce "Ada" generation into the high-volume performance segment by Summer 2023, with the introduction of the GeForce RTX 4060. The card is expected to launch somewhere around June, 2023. The card will be based on the 4 nm "AD106" silicon, the 4th chip based on the "Ada Lovelace" graphics architecture. Wolstame. a reliable source with NVIDIA leaks as Lenovo's Legion gaming desktop product manager, predicts that the RTX 4060 performance could end up matching that of the current RTX 3070 at a lower price-point.

This should make it a reasonably fast graphics card for 1440p AAA gaming with high-ultra settings, and ray tracing thrown in. What's interesting is if NVIDIA is expected to extend the DLSS 3 frame-generation feature to even this segment of graphics cards, which means a near-100% frame rate uplift can be had. Other predictions include a board power expected to be in the range of 150-180 W, and a 10% generational price-increase, which would mean that the RTX 4060 would have a launch-price similar to that of the RTX 3060 Ti (USD $399).

NVIDIA's Third Largest Ada GPU, the AD106, Features PCIe x8 Interface

It looks like NVIDIA is finally taking AMD's route in the mid-range by giving the third-largest silicon in its next-generation GeForce "Ada" RTX 40-series a narrower PCI-Express host interface. The AD106 silicon will be NVIDIA's third largest client GPU based on the "Ada" architecture, and succeeds the GA106 powering the likes of the GeForce RTX 3060. This chip reportedly features a narrower PCI-Express x8 host interface. At this point we don't know if the AD106 comes with PCI-Express Gen 5 or Gen 4. Regardless, having a PCIe lane count of 8 could possibly impact performance of the GPU on systems with PCI-Express Gen 3, such as 10th Gen Intel "Comet Lake," or even AMD's Ryzen 7 5700G APU.

Interestingly, the same leak also claims that the AD107, the fourth largest silicon powering lower mid-range SKUs, and which succeeds the GA107, features the same PCIe lane-count of x8. This is unlike AMD, which gives the "Navi 24" silicon a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 interface. Lowering the PCIe lane count simplifies PCB design, since there are fewer PCIe lanes to be wired out in precise trace-lengths to avoid asynchrony. It also reduces the pin-count of the GPU package. NVIDIA's calculation here is that there are now at least two generations of Intel and AMD platforms with PCIe Gen 4 or later (Intel "Rocket Lake" and "Alder Lake," AMD "Zen 2," and "Zen 3,") and so it makes sense to lower the PCIe lane-count.
