Corsair Launches PC DIY Precision Toolkit

Many of you are most likely familiar with iFixit's various toolkits, even if you don't happen to own one, as they've become quite famous all around the world as affordable, yet good quality tools. Now Corsair has decided to jump into the toolkit marketspace with its PC DIY Precision Toolkit, which is very similar to iFixit's Mako Driver Kit. Both kits come with a flexible extension rod, but where Corsair bests iFixit is when it comes to the actual driver handle, as it has a much better grip and the top cap appears to be made of aluminium rather than plastic. The box is also very similar, as both kits are kept closed with magnets and both have a magnetic insert in the lid which will hold your screws in place while you disassemble whatever it is you're trying to fix or upgrade.

The two toolkits also differ in terms of the kind of bits you get, with Corsair providing some extremely fine tool sizes, especially for Philips and pentalobe compared to iFixit, although iFixit has smaller Torx sizes in their kit. Corsair also offers more socket bits than iFixit, but loses some other bits like the SIM ejection bit and a magnetic pick-up bit. Overall Corsair provides 65 bits vs 64 for iFixit, so it really comes down to which bits make the most sense for you. Corsair also charges US$5 less for their kit compared to iFixit, with an MSRP of US$34.99.

Corsair Intros 180-degree 12VHPWR Power Bridge

Corsair rolled out a handy accessory that should help cable management in builds with graphics cards that have 16-pin 12VHPWR power connectors. Called simply the 12VHPWR GPU Power Bridge, the contraption inverts the power connector 180° as shown in the pictures below; so your power cable emerging from behind the motherboard tray doesn't have to make that turn. The Power Bridge hence reduces mechanical stress on the power cable from your PSU.

Unlike several such 180° power bridges of generic brands floating around online retail, some of which even convert 8-pin PCIe to a 12VHPWR; the Corsair Power Bridge comes with the quality assurance that comes with the badge. The company claims to have extensively tested it for endurance. The internal wiring between the two connectors on the bridge is tested to withstand 105 °C temperatures. Please note, that the bridge is not physically compatible with the ASUS ROG Strix and TUF Gaming graphics cards. The company is backing this with a 1-year warranty.

CORSAIR Confirms Drop's Audio Assets Acquired too, Future Unclear

You may have noticed CORSAIR's press release yesterday concerning its acquisition of Drop, a popular enthusiast peripherals website that made its name for running group buys before focusing on keyboards. DIY keyboard components, and audio products. The press release was careful in talking primarily about the keyboard side of things and we noticed an omission of anything non-keyboard related, thus necessitating a follow-up from CORSAIR on behalf of audiophiles who are fans of highly popular Drop products such as the Drop x Sennheiser HD 6XX, its gaming headsets with EPOS, multiple other headphone collaborations with manufacturers including Dan Clark Audio, HIFIMAN, Focal, as well as various amplifiers/DACs/streamers. There was speculation about whether CORSAIR had only purchased the keyboard assets and that the audio aspects might not continue, but CORSAIR was quick to confirm otherwise.

In a quote provided to TechPowerUp, CORSAIR mentioned the following:
I can confirm that CORSAIR has acquired the Drop.com website, brand, business, community, and all its staff. Drop.com will continue to operate via its own website. While we expect to explore wider opportunities for selling Drop products via the Corsair global sales channel, the drop.com website will remain distinct from Corsair, in a similar fashion to SCUF, Elgato and Origin PC. We'll be evaluating the non-keyboard aspects of the business as time goes on but will be making no changes immediately.

CORSAIR to Acquire Drop Assets; Further Expanding Peripherals Business

CORSAIR, a world leader in high-performance gear for gamers and content creators, today announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire certain assets from Drop, a leading privately held peripheral developer best known for its customizable mechanical keyboards and switches, and its millions-member strong enthusiast community. Founded in 2011, Drop (formerly known as Massdrop) develops and sells a portfolio of peripherals and enthusiast products, with the majority of its business coming from customized "DIY" keyboards, aftermarket designer keycaps, and desktop accessories. Drop leveraged the insights of its members to develop its current collection of over 120 colorful, classic, and iconic sets offering an incredible degree of personalization to mechanical keyboard users from all walks of life. It recently expanded its portfolio to include a range of so-called Battlestation products to offer an even wider assortment of designer products for the desk and workspace.

First unveiled at Computex 2023, the iCUE LINK ecosystem transforms the PC building experience with an unprecedented single-cable approach to system building. Doing away with the multiple connector types, controllers, and nests of cables that have become commonplace in today's PCs, iCUE LINK utilizes a universal connector for all its components. Furthermore, each device connects directly to the next, creating a series of linked devices that all connect to the System Hub with just one cable delivering both power and data to them all.

CORSAIR Shows Off iCUE Link Enabled DIY Liquid Cooling Components at Computex 2023

CORSAIR at the 2023 Computex made a big splash in the DIY liquid cooling components space, with a series of new CPU water-blocks, VGA water-blocks, pump+reservoirs, and other components, featuring the company's iCUE Link smart lighting system. Some of these even come with elaborate LCD displays for real-time monitoring. To begin with, the company unveiled the iCUE Link XC7 RGB Elite and iCUE Link XC7 RGB Elite LCD series CPU water-blocks.

These feature nickel-plated copper main material, micro-fin lattices for heat-dissipation to the coolant, and an coolant-flow channel design that intricately guides coolant through the micro-fin lattice. Unlike most other DIY CPU water-blocks that have their coolant fittings on top, the XC7 series features them along the sides, using a mechanism similar to AIO CLCs. This ensures that the top is freed up either for elaborate lighting (in case of the XC7 RGB Elite), or that display (in case of the XC7 RGB Elite LCD).

CORSAIR DOMINATOR Titanium DDR5 Memory and its Unique DHX Fanless Cooling Snapped

At the 2023 Computex, we caught CORSAIR's flagship PC memory line, the DOMINATOR Titanium DDR5 series. These are built to, well, dominate the overclocking and benchmark records scene, and come in several high-speed models, such as DDR5-8000 and DDR5-8266, and capacities as high as 192 GB (4x 48 GB kits). The company also has a limited batch of 500 "First Edition" kits, which feature a gold-on-white color scheme, and the company's highest grade of manual binning.

A defining feature about the DOMINATOR Titanium DDR5 series is their heat spreader design, which consists of 2 mm-thick aluminium making contact with the DRAM chips, which connect to an upper copper heatsink with RGB LEDs studded. The edges of the top have mount-holes, so a set of 2 or 4 of these DIMMs can be bolted onto the company's latest DHX cooling module. This is essentially a chunky slab of anodized aluminium that soaks up and dissipates heat from the DIMMs, and has slats that let the RGB lighting through. CORSAIR is backing these with lifetime warranties, and plans to launch them in July 2023.

CORSAIR Announces DOMINATOR Titanium Series DDR5 Memory

CORSAIR, a world leader in enthusiast components for gamers, creators, and PC builders, today announced the latest addition to its award-winning memory line-up, DOMINATOR TITANIUM DDR5 memory. Sporting an elegant, fresh new design and built using premium materials and components, DOMINATOR TITANIUM DDR5 memory will be available for both Intel and AMD platforms, supporting Intel XMP 3.0 when paired with 12th and 13th-Gen Core processors or AMD EXPO for Ryzen 7000 CPUs. These technologies enable easy overclocking in just a couple of clicks on compatible platforms.

CORSAIR Revolutionizes DIY PC Building with the New iCUE LINK Smart Component Ecosystem

CORSAIR, a world leader in high-performance gear and systems for gamers, content creators, and PC enthusiasts, today ushered in a new era of smart, simplified DIY PC building as it revealed the iCUE LINK Smart Component Ecosystem. iCUE LINK changes the way experienced PC builders and newcomers alike will create their next PC, implementing patent-pending single-cable technology to reduce the time it takes to build and set up a new performance PC by as much as 50% while dramatically reducing cable management. No more nests of wires, connection hubs, PWM and RGB splitters cluttering up your case - all thanks to the unprecedented simplicity and potential of iCUE LINK.

A built-in microcontroller in every individual iCUE LINK component acts as a "brain" that communicates with the System Hub, enabling a generational leap in system intelligence and opening up exciting possibilities - such as the new Time Warp RGB lighting mode that uses a strobing effect to make it appear as if your fans are frozen in place or spinning backwards, and individual fan response curves that let you optimize for noise and performance like never before.

The new modular architecture will recognize and include only the settings you need for your connected iCUE-compatible devices so your system resources will be optimized. Want a more extensive iCUE experience? You can add modules such as NVIDIA Broadcast, third-party smart lighting control, and RGB game integrations, or make a more personalized iCUE interface.

Crucial T700 Gen 5 SSD Throttles Down to HDD Performance Levels Without a Cooler

Crucial T700, the company's flagship M.2 NVMe Gen 5 SSD, runs hot—like every other drive based on the Phison E26-series controller (such as the Corsair MP700). ComputerBase.de discovered what the drive does without some sort of cooling. The E26 controller has a Tjmax value of around 86°C, and what happens when it's reached depends on the drive in question. The Corsair MP700 can turn itself off to protect the controller—something that will definitely cause your machine to hang with a BSOD.

The Crucial T700, on the other hand, aggressively throttles down the controller in an attempt to lower temperatures. While the drive won't stop (and your machine won't hang), its performance drops to hard drive levels, with CrystalDiskMark (CDM) measurements pointing to around 101 MB/s (of course, with much lower access times than a HDD). Both Crucial and Corsair offer the drive with large heatsinks, and recommend users to use them. This should severely limit the adoption of Gen 5 NVMe SSDs among notebooks, where the notebook chassis has room for only bare drives. However, some OEMs specializing in larger high-end gaming notebooks and desktop-replacement workstations, can find ways to connect the drives to the notebook's main cooling system using flattened heatpipes. You can catch ComputerBase's review of the MP700 in the source link below.
