Intel Intros New Celeron M 857 ULV Processor

Intel updated its product offer to OEMs with a new low-cost ultra-low voltage (ULV) processor, the Intel Celeron M 857. The chip is designed for use in ultra-portable notebooks. Built on the 32 nm processor node, this dual-core chip is clocked at 1.20 GHz, lacks HyperThreading, has 2 MB of shared L3 cache, dual-channel DDR3 IMC, and embedded graphics. The chip has a TDP of just 17W. Celeron M 857 has the same channel price as Celeron M 847, $134, which it displaces.

Thecus Technology Launches the N7700+ NAS Server

The 7-bay NAS is shaping up to be the go-to desktop NAS device for users who require both massive storage and blazing performance. Today, Thecus Technology is pleased to introduce the N7700+, a seven-bay storage server that retains all of the robust functionality of the N7700, but ups the ante with a PCIe x8 slot suitable for 10Gb Ethernet cards.

Thecus constantly engineers new ways to squeeze the maximum performance from existing technologies. The N7700+ one-ups its predecessor by including an internal PCIe x8 slot. Compared to the x1 slot found in the N7700, the N7700+'s PCIe slot offers up to eight times more bandwidth, which makes it perfect for 10Gb Ethernet cards. Outfitted with one of these cards, the N7700+ is fully compatible with the latest 10Gb networks, delivering unprecedented data transfer rates for the most demanding users.

Samsung Unveils X120 Ultraportable Notebook

Following its recent announcement of a pair of netbooks, Samsung also unveiled its newest CULV ultraportable notebook, the X120. With a chassis more or less resembling that of the N100 series albeit larger, the X120 doesn't target the ULPC/netbook crowd. It holds a 11.6-inch display with a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It is powered by an Intel CULV-class Celeron M 723 processor, up to 4 GB of system memory, and 500 GB of storage. Connectivity options include 10/100 Ethernet, 801.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth (optional), and 6-cell or 4-cell battery. The 6-cell one provides up to 9 hours of usage. It will be available later this month priced at around 700€.

First Dual-Core Celeron Mobile CPUs Out

Intel has introduced its first set of mobile dual-core CPUs under the Celeron M branding. There are two models up for sale: T1700 and T1600, clocked at 1.83 GHz and 1.66 GHz respectively. These processors, based on the Core micro-architecture, have a shared L2 cache of 1 MB. These chips have a front-side bus speed of 667 MHz. Both these processors are derived from the 65nm silicon fabrication process, and come with rated TDP of 35W. The T1700 and T1600 are priced at US $86 and $80 respectively (in 1000 unit tray quantities), and are intended to be value offerings towards a segment of notebooks.
