Real Time Path Tracing
Path tracing lets us cast light rays from every pixel in the camera view and simulate the light bouncing 3-4 times around the scene. Each bounce samples a surface, and the light moves to the next surface. This makes a cloud of color that we can use some advanced algorithms to resolve back into pixels from the lit 3D scene. Path tracing offers the most advanced simulation of light interactions. For example, there are hundreds of thousands of light sources in Bahrain. Simulating the type of real time shadow interaction, self-reflection, and color bounce you get with path tracing is far ahead of older techniques.

Not long after announcing an "end of the road" for World Rally Championship (WRC) franchise development, Electronic Arts (EA) reportedly implemented an unspecified number of layoffs at Codemasters. This long-running British racing game specialist became a fully EA-owned property just over five years ago. Since then, the studio continued work on the F1 franchise—in addition, teams also branched off into the making of well-known EA racing IPs: Grid and WRC. On forums and social media, (non-Codemasters) EA staffers indicated that colleagues had lost their jobs. Video Games Chronicle reached out to the publisher, for comment on last week's conditions. On April 29, the American video game company announced the cutting of hundreds of roles, and the cancelation of unannounced projects.

In a statement issued to VGC, an EA spokesperson explained: "as a business, we are constantly evolving to meet the growing needs of our players and driving greater focus across our portfolio. This has led us to look at reducing some roles, while we redeploy as many as possible against our strategic priorities." As reported earlier this year, the company tends to "reshuffle" its development staff following the completion of projects. It is not clear how much of the internal setup at Codemasters has been re-jigged, but an EA Racing franchise social media manager provided a little bit of insight. In a past weekend forum post, they posited that: "there's a lot of talent up for grabs now—the audio and vehicle art teams were some of the best in the business; and any game with cars in it should tap them up." Criterion could be an ideal location for transfers, but this Surrey, UK-based studio's focus has been redirected to non-racing IPs.

Dear Rally Community, every great journey eventually finds its finish line, and today, we announce that we've reached the end of the road working on WRC. After releasing EA SPORTS WRC in 2023, the 2024 season, including the recently released Hard Chargers Content pack, will be our last expansion. F1 25 marks the return of the narrative-driven, Braking Point, an epic Formula 1 blockbuster mode set to excite players new and old when the game releases on May 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The fictional tale puts you right into the action, as the fate and destiny of the characters you control rests in your racing-gloved hands. So, with this being the latest instalment in the Braking Point story, how did we get here?

The Story So Far
While having roots back to F1 2019, Braking Point's debut in F1 2021 offered players the opportunity to adopt the role of Aiden Jackson, an F1 rookie looking to make a name for himself in the sport. He was met with many challenges along the way, including a ruthless rival, Devon Butler, a driver who would stop at nothing to succeed. In F1 23's instalment, which focused on the 2022 and 2023 seasons and the introduction of fictional team Konnersport, familiar faces returned alongside new protagonist Callie Mayer, the first woman to win the F2 Championship. The once infamous Devon Butler has his perspective of the sport turned upside down, opening up a spot for Callie's break into F1.

Introducing My Team 2.0: as mentioned as part of our Reveal, My Team is having its biggest overhaul since it was introduced in F1 2020. If you've played My Team in one of our previous F1 games, you'll be familiar with taking on the role of driver/owner, a single character that not only runs the day-to-day activities behind the scenes, but also jumps into the cockpit for the on-track action. For F1 25 however, we're shaking things up, as My Team 2.0 sees you take on a more authentic, management-focused role in that of a team owner.

In addition to handling day-to-day running of the critical facilities that make an F1 team tick such as Engineering, Personnel and Corporate, you'll be responsible for recruiting and managing a pair of drivers to represent your team. Then, during race weekends, you'll be given the choice as to which driver you'd like to take to the track. By managing the competing concerns of two drivers instead of just a single teammate, you'll discover what kind of owner you'd like to be. We believe this refreshed approach allows you to craft a My Team story that's unique to you, unlocking new avenues of decision-making for you to explore.

Take center stage in EA SPORTS F1 25, releasing worldwide on May 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. As Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary, F1 25 reflects the real-world sport's biggest driver line-up change in years, featuring six rookie drivers and the landmark move of seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who makes the unprecedented switch from Mercedes to Ferrari. Career
Career is a core WRC experience, where players will aim to lead their team to victory against the world's best rally drivers, cars, and teams. The first choice will be in deciding where on the WRC ladder to start their first season from. Want to build up a legacy across multiple classes? Then begin a journey with Junior WRC, as the Rally3 cars are a great entry point for new players. Alternatively, players can start in WRC 2, or even jump straight in at the deep-end with the Rally1 cars in the top class of competition. Following the initial class selection, players will then begin the process of creating their very own rally team. This starts with the team branding, including name and colours, before meeting the Chief Engineer and Benefactor.

Heritage and Experience
EA Sports WRC is built on the foundations of over 25 years of off-road videogame heritage from development studio Codemasters. The team's previous rally game, DIRT Rally 2.0, paved the way for a new generation of rally game running on the Unreal Engine. Moving to the Unreal Engine has afforded the team greater freedom to create the biggest rally stages in Codemasters' history, with the longest routes spanning over 30 km - roughly twice as long as those seen in previous titles. In total, EA Sports WRC features over 600 km of unique roads, almost double what was available in DiRT Rally 2.0.

Following on from the reveal of EA SPORTS F1 23 last week, dive into the details you might have missed and more about what to expect ahead of launch on June 16, 2023 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. F1 23's handling and physics have had a significant upgrade on previous years, resulting in better handling, low-speed traction, and overall vehicle driveability. Veteran players will immediately notice a difference, as vehicle behaviour in particular is more authentic thanks to three key areas of reworking: acceleration, braking, and cornering.

Updates to physics calculations for the slip of the tyres and how this interacts with the inertia of the car have been made. Plus, the way each car's engine delivers torque has been refined, with more progressive steps relative to gear and throttle input. On-track surfaces such as kerbs and rumble strips will be noticeably more pronounced, thanks to improvements made to the underfloor of each car, delivering a more true-to-life experience. Adopting feedback from real F1 teams and drivers such as Anthony Davidson, players will notice a closer balance between mechanical grip from tyres and aerodynamic grip from the cars. All these changes result in F1 23 offering the most authentic F1 driving experience around.

Today Electronic Arts Inc. and EA SPORTS announced that F1 23, the official game of the FIA Formula One World Championship, will be released on June 16 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, via EA App, Epic Games Store, and Steam. Codemasters announced that the year's edition of the official Formula One game, F1 2020, receives NVIDIA DLSS support through an update. When enabled, DLSS (Deep Learning Supersampling) unleashes massive gains in performance by rendering the game at a lower resolution than your display's native resolution, and restoring details back into the game through AI supersampling. With DLSS and maximum game settings, even a $400 GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER is capable of playing F1 2020 at 4K UHD resolution with over 60 fps. The RTX 2070 SUPER manages roughly 75 fps, and the top RTX 2080 Ti over 100 fps. There are also handy performance uplifts to be had on the 1440p and Full HD (1080p) resolutions.

"We wanted F1 2020 to be the most authentic and immersive F1 game to date," said Lee Mather, F1 Franchise Game Director at Codemasters. "This required a laser focus on all aspects, from the My Team feature through to every pixel on the screen. NVIDIA DLSS gives users the performance headroom to maximise visual settings, resulting in realistic, immersive graphics."

As revealed during Microsoft's Inside Xbox show, Codemasters is delighted to announce DIRT 5, launching from October 2020 on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam) and the current generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles. A Google Stadia version will be released in early 2021. Whilst respecting the heritage and retaining the DNA of the franchise, DIRT 5 writes a new chapter in the legacy of DIRT - bolder and braver than ever before. DIRT 5 is more than relentless rallying, more than suspension-shaking jumps, more than hairpins and handbrakes. NVIDIA's GeForce Now game streaming service has been a bit of a hit and miss lately, with some of the bigger publishers like Activision-Blizzard, Bethesda, and 2K games revoking availability of their digital game libraries on NVIDIA's service. Possible reasons for those events were unknown and the platform did suffer from it. Some speculations were that the publishers were going to switch their preferred online streaming service platform or build their own. So far it is still a mystery. However, it seems like there is no end to the pain, as some very big publishers decided to revoke their digital libraries as well.

Big names like Microsoft Xbox Game Studios, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Codemasters, and Klei Entertainment have all decided to stop offering their games on the GeForce Now game streaming platform. This is very much a major disappointment and another big setback to the platform, as now you can not play any of the titles from these publishers. Titles from the games series like Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Dirt Rally, Batman and many more, are now not available. It remains to be seen if these publishers announce a move to another streaming service, so we have to wait.

Codemasters on 17th of May revealed the DiRT Rally 2.0 Season Two DLC will launch on June 4th 2019. New content, comprising of cars, liveries and environments, will be made available every two weeks with a primary focus on rallycross. Traditional rally fans can also enjoy a new location with the return of Wales and the Porsche 911 SC RS.

Debuted in DiRT 4, Group B rallycross cars are celebrated in Season Two with the inclusion of the Peugeot 205 T16 Rallycross, Ford RS200 Evolution, Lancia Delta S4 Rallycross and the MG Metro 6R4 Rallycross. With improved handling and graphical overhaul, the four vehicles will be a welcome addition when they are put through their paces on all rallycross circuits including the two brand new tracks, Bikernieki, Latvia and Estering, Germany. The new tracks are available weeks three and 11 respectively.

Adoption rate of DirectX 12 has slowed a lot in recent months, with some titles like Hitman 2 even backtracking and offering only DirectX 11 support, even though the previous game supported both DX12 and DX11. Codemaster, developers of the Formula One game series have now announced their plans for DirectX 12 support in their game engine.

After enabling the "Beta" option in Steam, and entering passcode "244EwzNFQkfnqf4Xc6GTmgsPtT6LAbYn", you'll be able to download the DirectX 12 branch, which is identical to the regular public version in every regard, with the exception of running in DirectX 12. Your existing savegames will continue to work and you can still play online, with players using DX11 and/or DX12 - there are no limitations.

Codemasters requests feedback in this forum thread, to improve their engine, and a few issues are already known. For example SLI and CrossFire support is "not yet implemented", and some other minor issues.

Codemasters today announced the year-away release of their next Dirt game. Dirt Rally 2.0 will be available in February 26th 2019, and aims to keep up with Codemaster's tradition of being one of the relevant racing-games developers in the world, alongside their annual F1 releases.

The company has announced that the game will have six rally locations (New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Australia and the USA, in 8 of the WRX circuits) and a smattering of classic and modern cars with their distinct handling profiles for your racer's heart to feel contented with. There will be seasons of post-launch content, which will be paid, and there's a Deluxe Edition of the game which will include the first initial seasons. You can catch the trailer after the break.

With the 2018 F1 Season going on in full swing (with some unexpected troubles for Mercedes' leadership this past weekend), gamers are about to get another taste of what it feels to drive some of the most advanced cars in the world. Codemasters and Koch Media today announced that F1 2018, the official videogame of the 2018 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, will immerse players into the world of Formula 1 more than ever before. F1 2018 will release onto PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC (DVD and via Steam) worldwide on Friday 24th August 2018, the weekend of the FORMULA 1 2018 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps Circuit.

"We were delighted by the reception that the highly-acclaimed F1 2017 game received, and are extremely excited to be able to further build on such a strong starting point with F1 2018" said Paul Jeal, F1 Franchise Director at Codemasters.
