NVIDIA Releases RTX A5500 Graphics Card and RTX A5500 Laptop GPU

NVIDIA released the RTX A5500 professional graphics card in the PCI-Express AIC form-factor, and the RTX A5500 Laptop GPU. Based on the "Ampere" graphics architecture, the RTX A5500 AIC features NVIDIA's biggest graphics silicon, the "GA102." It features 10,240 CUDA cores, 320 Tensor cores, 80 RT cores, and 24 GB of ECC GDDR6 memory across a 384-bit wide memory interface. The card uses some aggressive power management, with the typical board power rated at just 230 W. You also get an NVLink interface, and four DisplayPort 1.4 output connectors. The A5500 is being positioned a notch below the company's flagship pro-vis product, the RTX A6000, which comes with 48 GB of memory.

The RTX A5500 Laptop GPU is targeted at mobile workstations, and is based on the "GA103" silicon, with 7,424 CUDA cores, 232 Tensor cores, 58 RT cores, and 16 GB of ECC GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface. NVIDIA has given this product some Max-Q power and thermal optimization, with typical graphics power being rated in the range of 80 W to 160 W. This is NVIDIA's most powerful mobile pro-vis solution, being slotted higher than the RTX A4500. It's worth noting here, that both these products use ECC GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X.

NVIDIA "GA103" GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU SKU Pictured

When NVIDIA announced the appearance of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile graphics card, we were left with a desire to see just what the GA103 silicon powering the GPU looks like. And thanks to the Chinese YouTuber Geekerwan, we have the first pictures of the GPU. Pictured below is GA103S/GA103M SKU with GN20-E8-A1 labeling. It features 58 SMs that make up for 7424 CUDA cores in total. The number of Tensor cores for this SKU is set to 232, while there are 58 RT cores. NVIDIA has decided to pair this GPU with a 256-bit memory bus and 16 GB GDDR6 memory.

As it turns out, the full GA103 silicon has a total of 7680 CUDA cores and a 320-bit memory bus, so this mobile version is a slightly cut-down variant. It sits perfectly between GA104 and GA102 SKUs, providing a significant improvement to the core count of GA104 silicon. Power consumption of the GA103 SKU for GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile is set to a variable 80-150 Watt range, which can be adjusted according to the system's cooling capacity. An interesting thing to point out is a die size of 496 mm², which is a quarter more significant compared to GA104, for a quarter higher number of CUDA cores.

ASUS Prepares ROG Zephyrus Duo GX650 Laptop With Upcoming AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

Prominent chip designers like AMD and NVIDIA could bless consumers with a broader offering of their new products as soon as CES 2022 arrives. AMD should present its rumored Rembrandt-H lineup of processors based on the enhanced Zen 3 core, sometimes referred to as Zen 3+. According to the latest report coming from MyLaptopsGuide, Bluetooth SIG has some data entry about ASUS'es upcoming ROG Zephyrus Duo GX650 laptop that integrates AMD Rembrandt-H processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series graphics. As the website claims, the heart of this laptop will be AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor built on TSMC's 6 nm manufacturing process. We don't know much about this model, but we expect it to refine the previous Ryzen 9 5900HX.

We again see the rumored NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card for mobile, powering the graphics side of things. This model is supposedly based on GA103S GPU SKU, which is likely tailor-made for laptops in mind and exclusive to them. ASUS has also paired 16 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM with an AMD Ryzen processor, suggesting that Rembrandt-H has a new memory controller in place. This laptop model also has a 16-inch 300 Hz Full HD screen with anti-glare; however, the amount of information ended there. We have to wait for CES 2022 launch to find out more.

NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti and GA102 "Ampere" Specs, Other Juicy Bits Revealed

PC hardware focused YouTube channel Moore's Law is Dead published a juicy tech-spec reveal of NVIDIA's next-generation "Ampere" based flagship consumer graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, citing correspondence with sources within NVIDIA. The report talks of big changes to NVIDIA's Founders Edition (reference) board design, as well as what's on the silicon. To begin with, the RTX 3080 Ti reference-design card features a triple-fan cooling solution unlike the RTX 20-series. This cooler is reportedly quieter than the RTX 2080 Ti FE cooling solution. The card pulls power from a pair of 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include three DP, and one each of HDMI and VirtualLink USB-C. The source confirms that "Ampere" will implement PCI-Express gen 4.0 x16 host interface.

With "Ampere," NVIDIA is developing three tiers of high-end GPUs, with the "GA102" leading the pack and succeeding the "TU102," the "GA104" holding the upper-performance segment and succeeding today's "TU104," but a new silicon between the two, codenamed "GA103," with no predecessor from the current-generation. The "GA102" reportedly features 5,376 "Ampere" CUDA cores (up to 10% higher IPC than "Turing"). The silicon also taps into the rumored 7 nm-class silicon fabrication node to dial up GPU clock speeds well above 2.20 GHz even for the "GA102." Smaller chips in the series can boost beyond 2.50 GHz, according to the report. Even with the "GA102" being slightly cut-down for the RTX 3080 Ti, the silicon could end up with FP32 compute performance in excess of 21 TFLOPs. The card uses faster 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory, ending up with 863 GB/s of memory bandwidth that's 40% higher than that of the RTX 2080 Ti (if the memory bus width ends up 384-bit). Below are screengrabs from the Moore's Law is Dead video presentation, and not NVIDIA slides.
