Xbox 360 Most Popular Games Of 2011

Microsoft has revealed the top 20 most popular games played on the Xbox 360 in 2011 based on numbers of unique users logged into Xbox LIVE (Silver and Gold members). Note that this gives a different result to the total playtime for a particular game, which has not been disclosed here. Unsurprisingly, the Call of Duty series dominates the chart, but what is sure to irk CoD detractors, but make fans very happy, is that a massive five of those positions are taken up by CoD - that's 25% of the rankings. Even CoD4: Modern Warfare which was released way back in 2007 sits at a very respectable number 14. However, top games Battlefield 3 and Skyrim did very well nonetheless, sitting at five and six respectively, with only Halo beating them at number 4. Can you guess which CoD game hit the top spot before looking at the chart?

EA Launches Hostile Takeover Bid for Take-Two

Following failed talks with Take-Two's management, games developer Electronic Arts has instead decided to directly approach shareholders with its takeover bid. EA has kept its offer at $26 per share, which would give the deal a total value of around $2 billion. EA's CEO, John Riccitiello, said:
This is a great opportunity for Take-Two shareholders. We believe Take-Two investors will see our tender offer as the best way to maximize the value of their investment in Take-Two. This tender offer provides a clear process to complete the proposed transaction. For EA shareholders, the combination would add additional intellectual properties to our already strong portfolio and welcome Take-Two's talented creative teams to the great development organization we've built at EA.
Take-Two has issued a notice to all of its shareholders urging them not to accept the offer, but EA has set a deadline of 11th April - two weeks before the release of the eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto IV.

Grand Theft Auto IV Multiplayer Content Will Not be Xbox360 Exclusive

A few days ago, in an interview, Xbox chief Don Mattrick made a confounding proclamation. The proclamation said something along the lines of "GTA IV multiplayer will be Xbox360 exclusive" (please see source link for full version). After several raised eyebrows, Microsoft clarified that this was just a slip of tongue. Instead of Grand Theft Auto IV only having a multiplayer mode in the Xbox360 version, there will instead be some exclusive content only available to Xbox360 gamers. Rockstar took this one step further, and confirmed that Sony has a little something up their sleeve for PS3 gamers as well.
