HP Reports Third Quarter 2012 Results

HP today announced financial results for its third fiscal quarter ended July 31, 2012. For the quarter, net revenue of $29.7 billion was down 5% year over year and down 2% when adjusted for the effects of currency.

GAAP loss per share was $4.49, down from earnings per share (EPS) of $0.93 in the prior-year period. Non-GAAP diluted EPS was $1.00, down 9% from the prior-year period. Third quarter non-GAAP earnings information excludes after-tax costs of $10.8 billion, or $5.49 per diluted share, related to the amortization and impairment of purchased intangible assets, the impairment of goodwill, restructuring charges, acquisition-related charges and charges relating to the wind-down of certain retail publishing business activities, including the previously announced charges related to the impairment of goodwill within HP's Services segment, the restructuring program announced in May 2012, and the impairment of the purchased intangible asset associated with the "Compaq" trade name.

HP Board Declares Regular Dividend

The HP (NYSE: HPQ) board of directors has declared a regular cash dividend of 13.2 cents per share on the company's common stock. The dividend, the fourth in HP's fiscal year 2012, is payable on Oct. 3, 2012, to stockholders of record as of the close of business on Sept. 12, 2012. The per-share amount of HP's regular quarterly dividend has increased 65 percent since April 2011. HP has approximately 2 billion shares of common stock outstanding.

AMD today announced that Major League Baseball's (MLB) San Francisco Giants selected AMD as a technology partner. AMD's Mike Wolfe Named Transformational CIO by The Enterprise CIO Forum

Latest HP ProLiant Gen8 Servers Integrate New AMD Opteron Processors

Today AMD announced 11 servers from its customers, including two based on the new HP ProLiant Gen8 platform, will be integrating previously unannounced versions of the award-winning high-performance AMD Opteron 6200 Series processor and the low-power AMD Opteron 4200 Series processor. These servers are based on five new AMD Opteron processors that offer increased performance without an increase in power consumption, providing customers more choice in using the world's best price/performance x86 server processor.

Last month, HP launched two HP ProLiant Gen8 servers using the new AMD Opteron processors and plans to refresh the ProLiant DL585 G7 and the BL685c G7 later this year. Moreover, Dell is also expected to refresh its AMD offering with the latest AMD Opteron processors in the PowerEdge C6145, C6105, R415, R515, R715, R815 and the M915.

HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced financial results for its second fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2012. For the quarter, net revenue of $30.7 billion was down 3% year over year both as reported and when adjusted for the effects of currency.

GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.80, down 24% from the prior-year period. Non-GAAP diluted EPS was $0.98, down 21% from the prior-year period. Second quarter non-GAAP earnings information excludes after-tax costs of $356 million, or $0.18 per diluted share, related to amortization of purchased intangible assets, restructuring charges and acquisition-related charges.

Microsoft Announces Return of PC and Xbox 360 Offer for Students

Microsoft Corp. today announced the return of its successful student offer that allows students buying a qualifying Windows 7-based PC to also get a free Xbox 360 4GB console. HP Envy 4 Series Sleekbook and Ultrabook Pop Up for Pre-Order In China

HP's China online store listed out the company's new Envy 4 series that spans across six models occupying key price points starting at 5,499 RMB (US $872), and going up to 6,299 RMB (US $1000). The six models include relatively entry-level 1005tx and 1019tx, followed by 1004tx and 1021tx in the middle, ending with somewhat high-end 1006tx and 1021tx Ultrabooks. The slower models among these are driven by Intel Core i3-2367M, while the faster ones by Core i5-2467M. All six models are slim-category 14-inch notebooks.

AMD Selects HP for Cloud Data Center

HP today announced that AMD has improved business efficiency and streamlined operations by consolidating its worldwide data centers and standardizing on HP Networking solutions.

HP today announced that John Schultz has been promoted to the position of executive vice president and general counsel, effective immediately. Schultz, who joined HP in 2008, will be a member of HP's executive council and report to Meg Whitman, president and chief executive officer, HP.

As general counsel, Schultz is responsible globally for all legal and compliance functions. His previous role was vice president and deputy general counsel in charge of litigation.
