8BitDo Launches Transparent Xbox Edition Retro Mechanical Keyboard and Retro R8 Gaming Mouse

8BitDo is known for making retro gaming-themed peripherals, and it's now expanded that line-up with two more products in a transparent green color way reminiscent of the original Microsoft Xbox gaming console. The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard has received a refresh in classic transparent Xbox colors, and 8BitDo has launched its first gaming mouse, the Retro R8 Mouse in the same color way. The new colorway incorporates the expected transparent green plastic enclosures for the mouse and keyboard and also features bright red, yellow, blue, and green accent colors that, following the traditional ABXY button colors. Both the new Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard ($199.99) and Retro R8 Mouse ($59.99) are available for pre-order on Amazon, although it looks like the initial batches on the mouse have sold out for now.

While 8BitDo has opted for Kailh Jellyfish X switches, likely for their transparent appearance, the hardware changes to the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard are mostly limited to the transparent green case, keycaps, and extra macro buttons. The mouse, on the other hand, bears further inspection, since it's a new product category for 8BitDo. On a surface level, the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse looks like a typical ambidextrous gaming mouse, with a claimed eight programmable buttons, USB-C, 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth LE connectivity, and up to 26,000 DPI resolution. While it's not advertised as a lightweight mouse, it's certainly not heavy for a wireless mouse, coming in at 77 g. The Retro R8 Mouse also comes with a matching charging dock, which 8BitDo says will charge the mouse to 100% in 2.5 hours and acts as a signal extender. 8BitDo claims that the mouse can achieve between 26 and 105 hours of use from its 450 mAh Li-ion battery in wireless mode, depending on the polling rate and connectivity mode.

Kailh Brings Analog Switches, Box Switches, and Chocolate Switches to Computex 2024

Kailh is probably the most popular mechanical keyboard switch manufacturer after Cherry in terms of design wins. The company has a formidable lineup of keyboard switches across all popular form-factors, and technologies. We begin our tour of their Computex 2024 booth with the Chocolate switch. The casing of this switch appears like the trapezoid pieces of a chocolate bar. This switch is typically meant for low-profile keyboards. There are three variants of these switches based on actuation force, actuation point, and key travel.

Kailh brought both Hall Effect switches and Magnetic (Reed) switches to Computex. They're both analog key switches that let you configure actuation point, and have several applications to the analog input, but have different mechanisms from each other. Kailh has several variants of both kinds of switches based on tactile feedback. Next up, are Kailh's digital (regular) key switches, which include Box-type conventional mechanical switches, and optical keyboard switches. The optical switch has the least latency among all key switches. The box type switches use a mechanism that converts electrical contact a spring-loaded switch to actuation.

Monokei Shows New Monokei Systems Low-profile, Modular, and Wireless Keyboard at CES 2024

Monokei is not a well-known name on the keyboard market, but its latest Monokei Systems certainly caught our attention at the CES 2024 show in Las Vegas. In addition to the new Monokei Systems, which is a modular low-profile mechanical keyboard, the company had its previous Monokei Standard keyboard on display as well, in both standard and Yuji and Megumi Edition designed by Jujutsu Kaisen.

As said, the star of the show is the Monokei Systems, a low-profile, modular, mechanical and wireless 75% keyboard with a choice between Kailh Choc v2 Silent or Choc v2 Tactile switches. The modular part is quite interesting as you can change pretty much everything, including switches, keycaps, gasket socks, top and bottom case and faceplate, all aluminium, can be easily replaced as these are held magnetically. You can even replace a PCB, which means endless possibilities and future upgrades. Monokei also offers new Series 2 keycaps as an optional purchase. The standard options are Cupertino Silver and Stockholm Night colors. As it is a 75% design there are no special keys other than a dial up knob.

MSI Reveals STRIKE PRO WIRELESS Gaming Keyboard at CES

MSI has unveiled a brand new gaming keyboard at CES 2024—the STRIKE PRO WIRELESS looks to be their next flagship peripheral. Its features include an aircraft-grade aluminium top plate, a premium memory foam-outfitted wrist wrest and MSI's snazzy looking Clearcaps. Interested buyers will be offered a choice of proprietary Sonic Series Mechanical Red switches (35 g actuation force, linear typing experience) or Blue switches (45 g actuation force, "smooth + clicky" typing experience). Tri-mode connectivity is present—via MSI's SWIFTSPEED 2.4 GHz receiver, traditional Bluetooth (pairing with a maximum of three devices), or an old fashioned wired USB connection. Dedicated media keys, a volume wheel and a triple-profile M-key setup complete this package.

MSI introduced the VIGOR GK50 Elite TKL model last autumn, with options for Kailh Blue (50 g—smooth + clicky), Red (50 g—linear) and Box White (45 g—crisp) switches. The Elite compact tenkeyless board has not reached every territory around the world, so it is not surprising to see it being exhibited to interested punters in Las Vegas. MSI has also chosen to introduce a new high-end gaming mouse and game controller at this year's CES—hopefully a TPU team member will drop by the booth again, and get familiar with these peripherals: Versa Pro Wireless 8K mouse and Force Pro Wireless gamepad.

Gamiac Debuts Hot Swappable Keyboards and Mouse at Computex 2023

Gamiac is a brand new gaming peripherals outfit - recently created by Pro Gamersware GmbH. The plucky crew debuted their product range at this year's Computex with the aim of demonstrating gaming devices that offer excellent quality, flexibility and great value for money. The headliners appear to be two mechanical keyboard models - TKL-87G (87 keys) and TKL-68G (68 keys) - both sport 19 RGB modes, Kailh hot-swappable switches and durable PBT keycaps. A variety of casing and keycap color schemes will be available at launch - Gamiac estimates that the TKL-87G and TKL-68G keyboards will be out before the end of 2023.

The young brand also presented their PX-71 super light gaming mouse at Computex - this fancy pointing device features a modular design, so users can configure between solid and honey-comb shells. An interchangeable switch system is installed on the mouse's PCB - providing the option to hot-swap out the primary (M1 + M2) buttons. The PX-71 is a wired gaming mouse with a maximum 16,000 DPI - this likely points to it packing a Pixart PAW 3335 or PMW 3360 optical sensor. Gamiac will provide full specifications, pricing and launch information at a later date.

Fantech Aria XD7 Gaming Mouse Receives Two New Colorways, Ready to Order Now

Fantech has uploaded an unboxing video featuring the two new color variations of its Aria XD7 wireless gaming mouse - Sakura Pink and Retro Beige. These new colorways join the original lineup - consisting of standard black and white editions. The pink and beige models were first revealed late last year, and an expected/estimated release date was teased for Q1 2023. Alas, it seems that the fresh product lineup has undergone delays - until now - the Sakura and Retro Beige Aria XD7 models are available to order directly from Fantech's online store or regional retailers.

The Fantech Aria XD7 wireless gaming mouse was first released during last year's Spring season, and the compact powerhouse was immediately hailed as a very decent alternative to its closest rivals - in the shape of Logitech's G305 and Razer's Orochi V2 - the Aria also offered very up-to-date interior components and a low weight - coming in at 59 grams. The flagship Pixart PAW3395 optical sensor (max. 26,000 DPI) provided a significant technical upgrade over similarly egg-shaped mice on the market, and Fantech chose to sell the Aria XD7 at a very reasonable price (MSRP $70). Other notable features include a pair of Kailh GM 8.0 primary switches, a TTC Gold scroll wheel encoder, pure PTFE skates and the inclusion of a generous accessories package.

HyperX Adds Pulsefire Warp to its Wireless Gaming Mouse Range

HyperX is readying its brand new Pulsefire Warp wireless gaming mouse, and it may have jumped the queue in front of the recently revealed Pulsefire Haste 2 wired and wireless models. The Pulsefire Warp seems to be an exclusive item for sale only on the MechKeys online store for the time being, and there is no word about it becoming available at more mainstream outlets. The Haste 2 variants have been spotted out in the wild, but only a few lucky people managed to snag these mice early - that initial batch was either a time exclusive preview or issued in error by parent company Hewlett Packard, via its official Ebay outlet. HyperX has stated that the official Haste 2 launch window is scheduled for next month.

The Pulsefire Warp looks to sit below the Haste 2 Wireless in terms of specifications - it lacks the latter's high-end optical sensor (PAW 3395), fancy primary switches and a shell engineered to be very light in weight (74 g vs. 60 g respectively). This indicates that it is a more budget friendly offering, coming at a release price of $65.99, yet the Haste 2 Wireless will have an MSRP of $79.99, and the Haste 2 Wired's MSRP will be $59.99. HyperX is likely targeting different segments within the gaming mouse buying market with its Pulsefire range - the Warp will appeal to a more general audience with an offering of solid performance, a transparent shell aesthetic paired with RGB lighting. In contrast, the Haste 2 variants are stripped back in appearance and tuned for maximum performance - so enthusiasts and hardcore competitive types will be eager to get a hands-on with these.

Cooler Master Keyboards at 2023 CES: MasterKeys MK770 and CK721 in New Colors

Cooler Master introduced several new color schemes of its MasterKeys MK770 and CK721 mechanical gaming keyboards at the 2023 International CES. The MK770 has a unique 99-key layout that retains the Numpad, squeezes the arrow keys between the main QWERTY key-cluster and the Numpad, and relocates the insert/delete/home/end/page-up/page-down cluster. This is essentially a full-size keyboard, but only 38 cm in length (comparable to some TKL keyboards). The MK770 supports three kinds of connectivity—USB (including type-C), wireless over Bluetooth 5.1, or wireless over a low-latency proprietary 2.4 GHz RF.

The MK770 comes with hot-swappable Kailh Box V2 mechanical switches, a gasket mounted construction, PBT doubleshot keycaps with four distinct colors per color-set; and pre-lubed stabilizers for the keycaps. You get individual-key RGB lighting, a multi-function customizable wheel, and a 4000 mAh battery (the company didn't mention battery life on a full charge). In the USB and 2.4 GHz RF mode, the keyboard offers a 1000 Hz interface polling-rate, which drops down to 125 Hz in Bluetooth mode. A 512 KB onboard memory stores lighting and macro data. The four color sets the MK770 are offered in are: cyan+magenta+gray; mint-green+forest green+off-white; an Attack on Titan theme; and Fruity Pebbles theme. The CK721 Sakura Limited Edition is a 65% format mechanical gaming keyboard that uses TTC mechanical switches, PBT doubleshot keycaps, a 3-way digital dial, RGB lighting for each key, and triple interface just like MK770 (USB, Bluetooth, and 2.4 GHz RF). A 2,000 mAh battery provides up to 73 hours of use without lighting.

AJAZZ Announces Year Of The Tiger Themed Limited Edition AC081 75% Mechanical Keyboard

AJAZZ is on a limited edition roll, first with the cheese-themed AC067 65% keyboard and now a zodiac-calendar themed take on its popular AC081 75% form factor keyboard. Given this is the year of the Tiger as per the Chinese zodiac, I fully expected to see the likes of Ducky to come up with a limited edition as they have for a while now. But it appears this year other brands have decided to take on the arguably easy formula, and I have a review of another such Tiger-themed keyboard in the works. AJAZZ's version uses a gasket-mounted structure with a thick CNC-machined aluminium alloy chassis which undergoes a combination of anodizing and electrophoresis processes for a matching textured finish, and PBT keycaps with dye sublimed legends. As with the cheese-themed keyboard, AJAZZ has once again worked with Kailh to bring out a limited edition Year of the Tiger switch that is a linear switch rated at 45 gf actuation at 1.8 mm travel. This is a heavy keyboard weighing 1.8 Kg and available for purchase from Mechkeys for $219.

AJAZZ Introduces AC067 Cheese-themed 65% Mechanical Keyboard

June 1 is celebrated as Children's Day in China and a few other regions, and keyboard manufacturer AJAZZ decided to commemorate the event by releasing a special edition of its AC067 65% keyboard targeting kids and fans of the Hanna Barbera show Tom and Jerry. This keyboard clearly is shaped to look like a block of cheese as most people would have thought of growing up—I know I certainly did—with the keyboard case especially adopting the same yellow color with inward dimples courtesy CNC machined aluminium alloy that is then given an anodized finish. This is complemented by a special edition yellow and white PBT dye sub keycap set that works well with the design, including with some novelty keycaps present on the modifiers. The cheese theme even extends to the switches with a collaboration done with Kailh to use a linear and smooth "Yellow Cheese" mechanical switch paired with Kailh hotswap switch sockets to allow further customization. The keyboard uses a gasket mount structure to help ensure it's not just a cheesy take on a keyboard, and of course has per-key RGB lighting too. This is a chunky keyboard weighing 1.5 Kg and will be certainly a unique peripheral device in more ways than one. If you are interested, this is currently available for pre-order from Mechkeys for $219.

Sharkoon Unveils SKILLER SGK50 S4 60% Keyboard

Sharkoon Technologies, an international supplier of high-performance quality PC components and peripherals, now presents the SKILLER SGK50 S4 - Sharkoon's first mechanical 60 percent keyboard. Its hot-swap function allows switches to be installed and removed easily, and all switches with 3 and 5 pins are supported. The Kailh switches that are typical of Sharkoon are already pre-installed on the keyboard: The linear red switches, the tactile brown switches or the clicky blue switches. But if the factory-lubricated Gateron switches are preferred, these can be purchased separately with the Sharkoon Switch Set. The keyboard has two pairs of feet and can therefore be positioned at up to three different angles. In addition, two macros with up to 16 macro actions can be recorded or overwritten without the use of any separate software.

The compact layout of 60 percent saves a considerable amount of space on the desk, allowing the mouse to be moved more freely, while the keyboard can be positioned more conveniently while gaming. Thanks to the multiple assignment of the keys, all the functions of a TKL keyboard are provided. This means that the SKILLER SGK50 S4 can still demonstrate full functionality with its handy and compact size.

SilentiumPC Gear GK650K Omnis Onyx White Pudding Edition Keyboard

SilentiumPC Gear, the gaming label of the European manufacturer SilentiumPC, presents its new visually striking, full-size mechanical keyboard that meets the requirements of not only gamers and students or those who often work at their computer. The new addition features a bright design which was inspired by the extremely rare white variety of onyx. Just like the valuable mineral, the new keyboards are characterized by their high durability and extraordinary appearance. SilentiumPC Gear offers the GK650K Omnis Onyx White Pudding Edition with three different switches to choose from: Kailh Red (linear), Kailh Brown (tactile), Kailh Blue ("clicky").

This new addition to the series is distinguished by its unique white-and-silver colour scheme, durable PBT "Pudding" keycaps, configurable RGB backlight and side-strips, solid and compact design, aluminium-reinforced top, a magnetic wrist rest, a comfortable sound wheel for volume level adjustment, as well as advanced software and macro support. All of this makes the GK650K Omnis Onyx White Pudding Edition suitable for work or school and also for evenings and nights spent waging intense battles in video games with friends. There are three types of switches to choose from, depending on the user's preferences: Kailh Red switches have ultra-fast response times and linear, quiet operation. Kailh Brown switches are characterized by their balanced and universal character. Lastly, the Kailh Blue switches offer high levels of feedback during typing, and are a great choice for people who write a lot.

Sharkoon Unveils Skiller SGK60 Keyboard with Kailh BOX Switches

Sharkoon Technologies, an international supplier of high-performance quality PC components and peripherals, now presents its latest gaming keyboard, the SKILLER SGK60. This is a three-block keyboard with multimedia keys for the convenient control of videos and music, and which also has a macro key for keeping the upper hand in any game. The SGK60 comes with Kailh BOX switches as standard, whereby the user is free to choose from three switch types for the keyboard. In addition, 14 especially durable PBT keycaps are included. Thanks to double-injection technology, these should offer long-lasting use, free of wear and tear. The edges of the keyboard are diamond cut for an overall elegant appearance.

Thanks to the high-quality mechanical switches from Kailh, the keyboard is particularly beneficial for professional gamers. The red switches are worthwhile for gamers thanks to their linear switch characteristics and the low operating force required. The brown switches are suitable for both work and gaming due to their tactile characteristic with an inaudible feedback. Frequent writers can enjoy the white switches, which should give them the sensation of a typewriter when using the keyboard.

This is a keyboard which boasts long-lasting mechanical switches as well as a durable overall design. Responsive Kailh Switches
In order to suit different user needs, Sharkoon offers the SKILLER SGK3 White in different switch versions. The model with red switches is characterized by a linear switch characteristic without clicking noises or resistance and is therefore ideally suited for frequent gamers. For prolific writers in office settings and for casual gamers, the versions with the tactile blue or tactile brown switches are suitable options. With an operating force of 50 grams, all three types of switches actuate after only 1.9 millimeters.
